I live close to Ft Bragg, I was in the military for 10 years, had a great job and suddenly was laid off due to the economy, my benefits expire 03/11 and school does not start until 05/11. I called VA and I was told to submit a waiver for extension and explain why I did not used the benefits all this years, something has to be done about this, some people dont have the need because of time, or they have a great job and no benefit are need it, now that after we served honorably all of us veterans are beein kicked to the curve because of an expiration date!!!!!! How about after 10 years give us our money back, I guess that aint going to hapen either. I served because I love this country and this is how we get repaid.

I live in Fayetteville - Fort Bragg - the largest US military base in the world - where I served the majority of my duty as a Medcial NCO - I am one of five brothers who served our country for a total of more than 80 years - Due to circumstances beyond my control I was unable to attend school during the 10 years following my service. I find it almost unbelievable that you can serve your country honorably, have money deducted from your check for education and then be denied the money promised because of time limitations. Now, when i need it the most, I have to suck it up and drive on... We have to make some noise and rally our congressmen and women to do what's right... and pass a bill or amend the current - that includes no time limitations.

I could really use the benefits that i bought from the government. In these economic times, school would be a great help.

There should not be any expiration on educational benefits. Moreover, there should be an increase in benefits to encourage veterans to continue their education wherever and whenever their lives allow them to.

As a benefits advisor who has worked with countless veterans from the pre and post Vietnam era, it is heartbreaking to tell these individuals, who have honorably served their country overseas, that due to the current ten-year delaminating period, there is no way to certify them for VA benefits. With the current jobless numbers and bleak national economy, we cannot condemn these veterans to likely joblessness or limited potential. We cannot forget about this growing number of veterans and simply allow them to fall to the wayside. It is time to continue to honor their sacrifice, they way that they have so honorably served in the defense of this nation.

After giving 10 years of my life in the service of my country, shouldn't it be MY option to choose when I want to use my benefits?

I went to school and got a diploma my school was new and not yet certified by vetrans department.I was not allowed to use my gi benefits and payed out of pocket ,now that i need to go back to school again it would be nice to still have those benefits. Extend the same benefits to all veterans not just post 9/11 veterans

Soldiers were served pre 9/11 should be treated just as soldiers serving post 9/11 extend our time for benefit use

The right thing to do is obvious. I do not understand why it is a difficult decision. There should not be a time limit to use the GI BILL. When is the last time that this issue has been addressed. I don't see any media coverage on it. There needs to be a movement to get the time limit removed from the GI BILL. Let's go media, do something for once to show that you care.
