This has bothered me for years having a paid for GI Bill that you either lost or expired. Now there are veterans and or their familiy members going to school who never paid for the GI Bill. How backwards is that. Two years of service should be sufficient and the Bill should be for a lifetime. People aren't able to attend school when they would like to. Seems some vets were just not able to go. Who can tell the future. Give us the GI Bill that we paid for...afterall your giving it to vets family members who never even served.REPORT COMMENTS

I had to wait 7 months after my ETS, before I knew if I would even receive benefits from the VA from a service connected injury. Yet the clock was still ticking on my GI Bill from my ETS date. I had a family to support, no time for school at the time. By the time I got to a point where I could go back to school, my GI Bill expired before I could finish my degree, so I had to take out loans putting myself in debt. The GI Bill is a raw deal the way it's set up.REPORT COMMENTS

I served honorably in a time of war. Due to circumstances, I did not complete my degree until after the 10 year rule. I now have a very high student loan debt, owed to the government. The same government I served, who I believe should let me use the remainder of my unused GI Bill benefits to pay these loans back. Please give me one good reason why I don't deserve that money.REPORT COMMENTS

Like others after my service I had to get a job and support my family. Now after being unemployed for the past two years I decided to go back to school, but my benefits expired at the start of my first semester.REPORT COMMENTS

I understand the need to keep the benefit from escalating every year. I think a fair change would be to have the benefit amount freeze at the amount at the 10 year mark rather than just be eliminated.REPORT COMMENTS

It is now, during this difficult economy that I need my GI Bill Benefits. They're expired. VA is probably making money banking on people not using their benefits in a timely manner.REPORT COMMENTS

Due to family obligations to aging seniors and my mom and dad, along with being a single dad myself, college hasn't been an option. As an unemployed veteran in this job market facing blatant discrimination against all veterans (statistically) I would appreciate the time and support to return for my bachelor's degree - even though I regularly compete with Masters degree people for jobs and get them - it is the edge I now need. With a bachelors I could return at the pay level I have within Federal / dotgov / DoD service, without it, no hope for a Federal job on par with what I have made in the civilian world.REPORT COMMENTS

with changing economic times I find myself unemployed for the first time in my life. As a Veteran of the USAF I wish now that I had access to my GI Bill which expired in 2005, at that point I had a very good job and didn't think I would be in this position. GI Bills should be a lifelong benefit, you never know when ones situation will change!REPORT COMMENTS

I am in the same boat as everyone else. Was in active duty Marine from 96-00. Got out of Marines, was married with a baby and had to start working to support my family. Here I am 9 years later and only got two semesters out of my MGIB. My three brothers qualify for Post 9/11 GI Bill and they are eligible for 15 years vs. my ten years. This causes great frustration.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe any veteran with an honorable discharge should NOT be limited to an expiration date to use gibill we veterans served honorably and should be treated so. We all have situations that have to be attended to and we should know a benefit will be there when we are ready to pursue it.REPORT COMMENTS

I agree fully, there are things that happen in life that prevent veterns from furthering their education. Those who change and risk their lifes for the freedoms we enjoy should at least have the opportunity to use benifits of 36 months no matter how long they have been out of the militaryREPORT COMMENTS
