I am a nurse that works in a trauma center where I take care of dying people everyday. I take the same pride and energy in caring for my children. After 80 hours in 2 weeks, I bring home around 850.00. I am required to pay medical insurance which amounts to about 400.00 a month. No problem so far right? Now consider every 2 weeks I pay 674.00 in support. I pay more in insurance and support than I bring home. Right now my ex wife is in Florida soaking up the sun for spring break. In Florida, I'm about to be homeless and I'm going to loose my job if they suspend my license. How can they legally take over 55% of my pay? I can't live like this. I am involved in my daughter's life and I of course want to support her. This is unfair and an injustice. My child support is more than my rent. It's almost $700 a month. I pay weekly at $187. I only take home $320! What about rent, food, gas, insurance for me? Not to mention clothes diapers and food for my daughter. Her mother doesn't work this is not right something needs to be done.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a father of a 2 1/2 year old little beautiful girl. My wife left me because she was unhappy. I am being forced to pay child support for my child even though I'm trying to be apart of my daughters life. Why must I be forced to pay my ex-wife money when she is the one that left me and took my daughter away from me? I see it as more beneficial to my daughter to be in her life than it is to be forced out of her life and forced to pay a fee to a woman that lied for years saying she was happy. Please, understand I have no problem paying bills or helping out on bills that occur for my child, but to be forced to pay a certain amount of money every week out of my hard earned money to give to my ex-wife for her to spend however she wants, is not fair or just. I love my daughter and want to be there for her, but this government is not equal when it comes to the truth of the matter that without me, this child would not be here in this world. I would like to start out by saying I'm at my breaking point over child support I cant even afford gas to get to work cant afford a place to live lost my vehicle some weeks I would even make 20 dollars or have money to get gas or food I am to the point I'm fixing to take my only life because I cant live like this anymore I have degenerative disc disease and 2 herniated disk in my back and now they took my licenses which doesn't matter they done cost me everything else how can they expect anyone to pay this******they dont consider taxes or how far u drive to work I'm tired of being homeless and having to live like this so when the cops come looking for me I'm going to put an end to my life I cant do this anymoreREPORT COMMENTS

Someone needs to do something about the bias and unfair child support laws in the the state of Texas. We as fathers should be more than just a check in the mail. I give my ex more than half my income. Why should she get to go on and enjoy life, while I'm Brock and barely making my bills. The system has been built years ago and revisions need to be made for one the child support rate needs to be lowered in addition the custodial parent should have to pay a percent along with the non custodial parent towards the child's future. Some of the money should be set aside for college, trade school enhancement and growth of the child. Lastly the non custodial parent should receive a monthly expenditure sheet on what the money is being spend on.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a father of a 20yr old and a 7yr old. The oldest being my girl and youngest my son. For the past 13yrs I haven't seen a tax refund and funds have been applied to my child support regularly for my daughter and I gave cash for my son. I've had employment for the past 12yrs and make decent money ~$58,000 per year. At the age 18 you are basically an adult. So when I recieved documents for her emancipation I agreed. Well needless to say my daughter and her mother didn't see it the way I did. I had finally not only paid my court ordered child support but paid off arrearages that took me 9-10yrs to finally square away. I was told I have to continue paying support while my daughter attends college...which I can understand somewhat. But to move the "goal post" when I felt I would be done with the "courts" finally...They not only order me to continue to pay. They also didn't honor my having had paid my arrearages off for 2yrs prior. Not to mention the "COLA" increase that now puts me in arrears AGAIN! I've recently taken custody of my son though not through court, but through his "mom" having had her apartment raided and her arrested. So this "dead beat dad" stepped up responsibly. Yet these are the things that these dated and recently arguably "unjust" laws fail to see, and deal with in a "just" manner. The child support issue should be up for discussion instead dictated to the point it is. Stop lumping all fathers together under a negative label!! Exercise some restraint, use less emotion when your in the pockets of dads doing all they can to honor the courts orders. We love our children, but the job market isn't producing millionaires.
