Adding to this petition, it is my belief that no one should have to pay child support for more than 18 years. I am hearing too many stories of parents who got behind on child support and tens of thousands of dollars in interest have been tacked on. We are such an example. My husband as well as countless others are being charged interest at such an alarming rate that the debt will never be paid off in their life time. The child support system wiped out our bank accounts and we were not notified until after the fact. An act that caused us to be overdrawn. It wasn't a lot of money but it was all we had and it caused a huge hardship on us. My name was on those accounts too. Meanwhile the nightmare continues causing too many people to still be in the system far too many years. Eighteen years of child support is enough! I am being apportioned by the veterans administration for child support this has been in effect since 2008 the money goes directly to the custodial parent the state of florida because of a court order refuses to acknowledge the payments I have had my drivers license and bank account in jeopardy because of this the state of florida is aware that the custodial parent receives the money directly but refuses to drop the court order and now says that I am 12,000 dollars behind when in all actuality the support is current if there is anyone that has a solution to fix this please post it..........im cluelessREPORT COMMENTS

I have rears that is a large amount, the child in the case is 23 years of age. Since the birth of my son, I've had continuous issuses with the mother. I had to fight in court for visitation rights, as well as a reasonable child support payment to mother. For the first seven years, the mother of my child didn't allow me to see my son. At times, I didn't know where my son was, the grandmother would call and sneak me over to her house when my son would visit her. Finally, I ask can we go through the courts to establish some form of order so that I can see me child. With going through the courts, she gave them a number that she thought i owed her, and the courts ran with the numbers. With interest rates that's crazy, i owe 20 thoudands to mother, 9 thousand in rears and the rest is in interest, that I feel, I should have to pay. Mothers use the system for the wrong purpose. Not for the welfare of the child, but as a way to punish the father. In which isn't related to the father being a father, but to destroy the foundation of what's needed to make a child a major factor of the future.REPORT COMMENTS

My ex destroyed me financially. We lost our house because of it. We split up and before I could recover took almost 2 grand a month in child support. Now I live on almost enough to keep a roof over my head and a little food in the fridge, and I'm not allowed to see my kids. The system breeds suicide in fathers. It makes us desperate and hopeless. In Minnesota, I was ordered to pay $1358 a month for 4 kids. She wanted the divorce and up and moved the kids away to California ( I approved with fear she would not let me see my kids ) I relocated to Florida and had a good paying job, but could a studio in the bad side of town for $425 a month. Once my support kicked back in my car was repossessed, which meant I had no way to work, and had no way to pay my rent so, I moved in with a friend. I now have a job that pays $10 an hour and had my support modified to $758 a month. This is really still high since that leaves me with about $800 a month for rent , utilities, and food.REPORT COMMENTS

I hate the child support system because my first kids mother cheated on me and I caught her doing it and we been together for 6 years and I always been there for my kids and her kids but when we broke up she got mad at me for not helping her pay her sister for child care and I was like I'll watch my kids but I guess she didn't want that so we got into a argument and she put me on child support and the sad part is she ask me to pay for my kids school clothes and I be like why you don't use the child support money but I guess she use it for something else but I'm going through court with my second kid mother for child support because she cheated too. But I guess women do this to hurt the father over nothing. I don't like the child support system because I can't manage my money for bills like Rent, Cable, Lights, Household Stuff, Gas for work. Then if you don't pay you lose your driver license ending up going to jail and losing your job than how you going to pay it. I always be there for my kids just the mothers of my kids are money hungry and put they're men before they're own kids. I pray they end this because it's hard out here trying to survive. Now I'm working two jobs to get by and getting my wedding planned and got a baby girl on the way smh. Pls stop this child support system.REPORT COMMENTS

Hi I had a divorce in 2000 I had a drug problem that haunted me for years that is in the past. My ex moved to Pennsylvania with my child because I had a problem she was allowed to do so. I'm from Rhode island I told my ex. I didn't want to be married anymore. She just left the state which they considered kidnapping but anyway. I drove there a dozen times before my car broke down which started a spiral affect. I lost contact with her she moved to Finland now she was supposed to contact me if she left Pennsylvania never mind the country. I lost everything in my life I had a spurt of life clean but I fell into deep depression as usual . My daughter was 2 last time I seen her now it is 16 years later I have child support in Rhode island contacting me. So the really messed up part is my ex finally contacted me 16 years later. I have read many stories I have already lost my daughter being in her life now I'm just going to lose again I just got my shot together 5 years ago but it has been a struggle. My ex moved away with my daughter she fed on my addiction with taking her. I've lost so much mentally but I guess I will just lose again after everything I've read. I never wanted to take my daughter from my ex. Even though I brought her to court in 2000 but I had no choice to take her to court she fled the state with my child.I married a illegal immigrant but never tried to mess with that but in the end my drugs just took me away. The only thing that has haunted me is the last time I was in Pennsylvania with my daughter with her blonde curls and bright blue eyes she was screaming daddy don't go I admit it broke me down it did that whole ride home. That is her revenge on me not wanting to be with her.REPORT COMMENTS

The system needs major revamping. My family can't hardly pay the minimal bills each month without borrowing from my family large amounts yet my husband's ex was just awarded almost a thousand a month despite that they make the same money but supports 2 less and just bought a brand new Lexus. She doesn't even provide their child with a bedroom but she takes months off at a time for vacations with her boyfriend and attends every possible concert. I'm lucky to feed my family and now my husband may as well go to jail because we can't fund her fun and games.REPORT COMMENTS

Its sick that all they care about is money my child has been taken from me since 2009 and ex or child support will not give me a address or phone number to talk to my child now she doesn't speak to me at all or her other siblings. its like she is not my daughter just a $1100.00 a month bill im paying. My ex somehow took my daughter out of the country when she got remarried to someone from Germany. How can she do this and I have tried to fight it but don't have the money.REPORT COMMENTS
