They should also be required to take a drug test. What about the mothers who are drug addicts and collect child support to pay for their habit? Also, there should be a percentage taken out and put aside to help pay for college. 3rdly, If we as men, have a house payment, car payment... etc... that is considered a "luxury" but the mothers house payment, car payment... etc isnt? Doesnt seem very fair to me.Oct 24th, 2012Someone from North Ridgeville, OH writes:

I am a single mom and believe in being independent and showing your child you work for what you have and when you work hard, you earn it. I have even worked 2 jobs to support me and my son. I have never asked for child support because I dont believe in that. If the man wants to contribute, go for it, if not, you dont need him. I am with a man now that has another son and I sm tired of paying her bills and for her vacation when she has a nursing degree and is sitting, living large on her $800 child support for one kid. Ridiculous!!!REPORT COMMENTS

Enough is enough, leeches. One of my children got accepted to the university, and my child support increased by 50%. Slut, take loans, take a part-time job, do whatever it takes, just like I did. Nobody sent you to Syracuse, with a $50,000 / year tuition. The state of WA says I owe $153,000, but my salary is like $1,200/month. You who think you are entitled to taking my livelihood should rot in hell.REPORT COMMENTS

I'm a father and my son has all that he needs and more I shouldn't have to give him hundreds of dollars, because he doesn't need it. I wish this law was fair. Make the Mom work and stop waiting to spend my child's money that I worked for! Im a proud soldier and I shouldn't have to go through this, the government should really change this law..REPORT COMMENTS

The courts are sure to nail you for any missed support checks but do not put any effort in discerning the lies of income. Equal rights is always fought for women except when it doesn't benefit them. Just because you have a child with someone doesn't mean you should give up your rights to your income or possessions. I am a father that gets roughly 35% time with my daughter and wants more time but the courts will not give me 50/50 custody. They just have no constitutional rights to do this. Because I live in this state I give up my rights to my income or child? It is garbage.REPORT COMMENTS

A broken and flawed system in which I have had to research print and bring state support laws and regulations to hearings after arguing with the retards that are hired to facilitate the support hearings and set up the amounts I owe. On top of the fact the employees are retarded, and modern women get spoiled...we live in one of the only cultures in which a child isn't given to the father if a split occurs, and we gave equal rights to these women. Well how about some equal rights for men, bc this country is built to protect women and minorities from themselves and essentially discriminates against white men and we are constantly put in situations to pay for everyone else's mistakes as well as our own. Change...we need change alright, but not like the garbage that has been shoved down our throats and into our homes these last few years.REPORT COMMENTS

laws for the non custodial parents are totally unfair. alot of women stay at home and use it to support them while being on government assistance. we are encouraging women not to work and making some fathers live in poverty to give the ex a monthly income.. i believe in child support, but its child support, not ex wife support.REPORT COMMENTS

I agree the laws are suppose to be designed with the best intrest of the child in mind. The problem here is the law violates the childs right to have both the father and the mother in thier life. The child has the right to thier father as much as thier mother. Is it ever in the best interest for the child to have a parent go to jail because they are broke ?However the father is punished in divorce simply for having a child. If the father becomes injured or sick and will be off work for an extended period of time we fall behind and can't pay .Then the enforcement agency comes in revokes a drivers license that the father will need in order to both find employment and get to and from work. It's condemnation at this point and violates our right to the pursuit of happiness according to constitution. This also furthe hurts the child because dad now not only is driven into poverty but is also thrown into jail .Ths justice scales are seriously tipped in favor of custodial parents with no reguard of the destruction that is caused in the fathers life. Therefore this becomes slavery because now we have to ask permission to either move in order to find employment sometimes further than allowed to by the support law.We have been robbed of our right as a free person. The economic collapse that has made jobs terrible to find on top of having an arrest record due to child support and a suspended license makes things extremely hard if not impossible, for fathers to live and support both thier child and thierselves .Lot of times father go untreated medically for extended periods of time without a check up simply because they cant pay for anything else ,because they are living off 50 dollars a week left from their check. factor extreme gas prices plus this economy plus this job olus revoked drivers license plus jail record and you have a doomed parent to slavery. Is slavery not illegal in this country? Do our children have the right to both parents ?Is debtors prison illegal? Iask you what is condemnation by law but slavery ?REPORT COMMENTS

I agree with most of the stories presented here. Just as the recipients and the system usually say that it's not about the money, it's about the children, I say that on behalf of many good fathers and men who are really trying their best and sincerest to financially support their children that it's not about the money, it's about the fairness or, in this case, the unfairness of the support laws. I myself have had a few challenges with regards to daily financial responsibilities because of an excessive support amount imposed upon me. In addition, we should be allowed to claim our payments at the end of the year. The laws should be more considerate of what the payor actually brings home. How ridiculous is it to calculate a payment based upon a gross amount, an amount that I NEVER EVER SEE? Anyway, so much more to say on the subject. Yet, I love my children, just want the system to be fairer!REPORT COMMENTS

It is sad that all these stories tell similar tales. You would think that if there was such a disparity for accountability and responsibility that someone would have taken notice by now. Five years ago, I briefly dated a woman a few times who told me that she couldn't have children anymore. (she already had three). "Shockingly", she became pregnant. When she told me, I discussed with her how I didn't want tom have children at that time, and that we were not financially or emotionally prepared to have a child. She stated that she could not have an abortion, and would not give the child up for adoption, however I would have no responsibility towards e child as she was making that decision against my wishes. Lo and behold, three years later, I received a summons for child paternity and child support. Although I was unemployed, I was ordered to pay child support, including arrears. In the meantime, I was not allowed to see my child, and had to file for custody in order to force her to even let me see my child. Since that has happened, it has become increasingly difficult for me to spend time with my child because my ex tells her lies about me, and she is afraid of me. Meanwhile, my ex works a few hrs a week, and collect child support for all four children to support herself, and is able to afford lavish things, while my child wears clothing and shoes that don't even fit. Why should she not be working full-time to help support her four children!?REPORT COMMENTS
