I am a woman and I don't agree with the child support laws. I have 1 child I work and make sure the child is taken care of. I disagree with the women who sit at home waiting on child support. I also disagree with women having multiple children in a single home and wait on government assistance, and child support. I feel having multiple children without being in a 2 parent home creates poverty. Child support laws need to stop, that would limit women having multiple children using the government money to take care of them & waiting on child support. Changing the laws would force these habitual people to stop having children they cannot afford.Oct 3rd, 2013Someone from Atlanta, GA writes:
I am a single father of 2 children I have raised since birth they are teenagers now. I had relations with a girl I met and she got pregnant. Well she decided she wanted a abortion and asked for the money, so I gave it to her. I did not hear from her the whole 9 months until i was served child support papers to appear in court. I was totally shocked when I received child support papers, because she insisted on a abortion we both agreed upon. She never contacted me. She appeared in court with the child for support. She told the court because I drove a nice car that I worked hard to get, she feels I had money so she is requesting the max payment. I am a single dad raising 2 children on my own. What part of I have money is she referring to? Im was confused. Well the court didnt award her the max, because I was already raising 2 children in my home. I paid my payments on time until I had a bad accident on my job, and was unable to work. I am currently waiting on SSI, due to my injuries, the doctors will not allow me to work. At this time I have family and my mother helping me with my 2 children. Every few months I receive paperwork to appear in court, or contempt of court, to be arrested. The mother of the child is not working, nor does she want to work. It seems that she purposily keeps sending me to court, and told me she does not care if I am homeless with my 2 other children as long as she gets her money. I feel the law needs to change, I am not saying take away support, but the law needs to require the mothers to get jobs as well, dont depend on child support to take care of your entire house. Me and my 2 kids lost our home due to trying to pay out child support. Please change the laws with the child support enforcement, because the non custodial parent is getting railroadedREPORT COMMENTS

I believe that lawmakers know that this law is biased and unfair. Everyones situation is different. There is a certain amount of support needed for every child. Both men AND women are currently required to share the responsibility however, that responsibility relies upon a commonly ill thought out formula that denies both parties their rights under the constitution.REPORT COMMENTS

The new law enacted in 2011 in Maryland is so unfair. My husbands child support doubled and he was already paying a hefty amount. Basing child support on Gross Income and not Net Income does not take into account some mandatory deductions, health insurance and saving a bit for retirement (so that WE are not a burden to our children!). When all is said and done my husband pays nearly 40% of his take home pay to his ex for just 2 kids. Meanwhile the kids have not had any new clothes or shoes in over a year. The state has no right making us pay that much if they cannot guarantee the money will be used for the children.REPORT COMMENTS

My husband has paid support for 16 years and the kids mom has not let him see his daughter for the last 10 and no court enforces her to let him see his child. Child support needs to end. Women would think twice about getting pregnant if they didn't know they would be getting a check.REPORT COMMENTS

Women have an undeniable advantage in relationships and the courts. With equal employment opportunities for men and women, there needs equality in child support responsibility. Men are no longer primary bread winners. Just please end all the hypocrisy and double standards, and get back in session soon because you don't deserve your high salary anyway.REPORT COMMENTS

A father, who loses his job in a bad economy, an cant find work in the same bad economy, should not be put in jail after 3 months or lose his liscense. A guy who is trying should not be punished like this. Also if u take away someones liscense, than essentially u take there ability to commute to work efficient. Thanks for your timeREPORT COMMENTS

The child support laws are unfair and the court is biased. The custodial parents are getting large amounts in child support, while the other parent can barely survive. The sole financial responsibility should not fall on the non-custodial parent cause they make more than the other parent it should be equal, and the courts should be fair not siding with the mother to screw over the father. The current system penalizes the good fathers who are trying to do the right thing. The fathers in the military have it even worse. Something needs done about this.. Child Support as become a lifestyle for some women. Also some oversight needs to be done to account for how the money is spent.REPORT COMMENTS

The child support system is bogus. There is no reason that it can't be set up and monitored accurately so you know money is actually being spent on your child.REPORT COMMENTS

The current system actually punishes fathers who try to do the right thing, yet ignore irresponsible fathers who abandon their children. It is totally absurd.REPORT COMMENTS

I recently went to court to file for a decrease and for an increase in parenting time . Cause I was terminated from my full time job. Mind you I've been working two jobs to support my daughter for two years with only geting 3 hrs of sleep , but anyways I went to court and thinking that the judge would lower the support He kept it the same stating that it was my fault I was terminated from my job .the child support system is injustice and not fair towards fathers who are doing the right thing .REPORT COMMENTS

I live in Massachusetts and my child lives in NH. I have my son 3 to 4 nights per week and pay a large amount in child support. I pay for medical and close to 100% of extracurricular activities my son is involved in. My x wife cannot keep a job and now has 3 children from 3 different fathers. Even though I provide a large amount of child support and spend half the week with my son she is looking for more money. This puts me in a position that makes it very difficult to move forward in a relation with another women and consider having another child. There is extreme prejudice towards men and the the way the law is practiced always puts women at an advantage. The current laws protect the lazy and punish hard working, involved and responsible fathers.REPORT COMMENTS

I've dealt with unfair child support laws through my uncle having to work 3 jobs, live in a run down 1 bedroom apartment just so he can keep his head above water while paying support to his ex wife. I am now dealing with this through my husband who's ex refuses to work a full time job. CA child support laws are totally unfair and biased.REPORT COMMENTS
