It amazes me to see that this system has not changed. Half a persons paycheck is taken and the mother get their hair done, nails done and the children look like garbage. Why are the laws not being evaluated, a form of slavery to keep woman and children in poverty. Men in jail to keep the government funded. How can a man be in jail work to pay for children and not the mothers who lie also about their own situation. There are no mediators in place to make sure that neither party is lying.REPORT COMMENTS

My new husband was fired from his job just before divorce proceedings. His rate was calculated for his "potential" job and hers was listed below minimum wage. Two years now and he still can't find work and she doesn't have to while we struggle. He has to pay her more in support for one child than he gets for his older three kids he has sole custody over combined. That is right, her kid is worth more than his other kids combined. He has tried to modify payments since he is not earning any money but they keep ignoring him and passing him off. This bias needs to stop.REPORT COMMENTS

I divorced my ex 10 yrs ago and at that time I did not have to pay any child support but I did pay for half of all the kids expenses. She has her masters degree and is very capable of working full-time. She is know asking for child support which I have to pay 1000.00 a month because since our divorce I have bettered myself and got several promotions. She has remarried a doctor and has cut back to part time since. I don't have a problem supporting my kids but why should I support her to sit on her butt. I have always payed for half of all of there expenses and given them so much when they are with me. I can't afford to pay her that much money a month and still give the kids other things. In the mean time she is out taking trips and buying expensive items. The courts need to open there eye's. Why would anyone want to work more when they get that kind of money every month?REPORT COMMENTS

The time for child support and alimony reform has come. It is time to end lifetime alimony. Time for shared parenting as the FIRST option, with no parent paying the other parent. It is time to stop judges from imputing income to NCPs that they can never earn. It is time to cap interest on arrearages at bank rate +2%. My fiance has to pay for a child created because of a very dumb mistake as a young man. He stupidly trusted a young woman who said she was on birth control and was not. She intentionally got pregnant so she could make money off of my fiance. Her own mother put her up to it. They tried to blackmail the family for a large lump sum first. She had another illegitimate child a few years later and was unemployed and living with family until she got married and had two more kids with this third man. I think they have since split up...but 4 kids, 3 fathers...she's making money off of these children. The boy (of my fiance's issue) just turned 18 a few weeks ago but his mother has forced him to file for continuing support since he's still in school. Oregon law says he can do that until he's 21 if he's in school and has at least a C average. We don't know this young man...he's an adult now. He's not a part of our lives and he will never be. Why do my future husband and I have to take money out of our kids' mouths and college funds for this adult to go to school? This family clearly doesn't care about higher education...they just want money. It's shameful. Something wrong with this system. He's paid what he owes. Leave him alone now!REPORT COMMENTS

Child support is unfair period. Miami county, Ohio is by far the worst. The cost of raising a child should be split, mainly when there is shared parenting. What it costs to raise the child and split that in two. The "custodial" parent should be REQUIRED to pay EQUAL to what the "noncustodial" parent pays. They BOTH supply a roof over the childs head and BOTH supply clothes for the child. They ALSO feed the child so how can they be expected to provide EVERYTHING at the other parents house and EVERYTHING the child needs at their house also AND still be able to survive and live a normal life? And then when the "custodial? parent remarries they get 2 1/2 incomes while when the other parent remarries they have 1 1/2 incomes. Give me a break. The government should be ashamed of this. And why is it so hard to get custody for a father? The mother has to be proven UNFIT first? So it's basically HER child until it's time to support the child then it's his responsiblity. Maybe the child should be with the parent that is able to provide without welfare.REPORT COMMENTS

I think the statute of limitations laws on Ohio Child Support should seriously be reconsidered and altered. I agree that after a child turns 5 - and they're in school - the mother should be working at least a part time job to help support their child. I have 4 children and work full time while my husband stays at home due to his disability, but still has to pay $11k in child support back pay because the mother of his two oldest sons waited 13 years to even file child support on him. She raised those two boys on her own for 13 years then out of the blue decided that she wanted him to pay child support. So not only do I work full time & attend college, to support my four children, I have to help pay for her two children. My husband's ex has a full time job of her own, the children are now grown, graduated from high school, working full time, and one is even going into the military. They do not live at home with their mother and have not lived at home with their mother since they were 5 and 7 years old. I believe that the laws surrounding child support and the statute of limitations in Ohio needs to be changed severely. If it weren't for me having the job that I do, my children, husband, and I would be homeless. We are struggling to make ends meet while she is working making her own money and receiving child support payments every single month. She even went to court a month ago to try and get the child support order raised! My husband cannot work because he has been diagnosed with PTSD, severe bi-polar, anxiety, and depression. He also fell off a 40 ft. ladder 8 years ago, thankfully hitting tree branches on the way down to soften his landing, but will never be the same again because of the severe damage the fall did to his back. This woman thinks that because my husband came into my life when my children were 2 and 1 month old - I have a 5 year old son and 3 year old twins with my ex and a 2 year old son with my husband - that he should have to pay for her sons also. Firstly, when the paternity testing was done on her sons the testing showed the paternity between my husband and the boys was 96% and 97%. The law in Ohio states that in order for a father to be legally deemed as the father the testing has to be at least 99.9%. She admitted to sleeping with various men family members of my husbands throughout the time period they were together. The male genes in my husbands family are very strong - so all of the men in their family look very very much alike. The youngest of the two boys was born with a cleft lip - the son my husband and I have together was not born with this. My husbands brother's son was born with a cleft lip. No other person in the boys mother's side of the family has ever had a cleft lip. The statute of limitations of when a mother - or father - can file for child support needs to be changed! The law currently states that there is no statute of limitations on when a parent can file for child support - which is flat out crazy!REPORT COMMENTS

The so called "mother" of my 2 sons - who are now 20 and 18 - waited until they were 17 and 15 to file for child support. I did not even know these boys were mine, because while we were dating she slept with various men in my family, and paternity of the oldest son was never determined at birth - only when she decided 17 years later to file for child support. I am not on either of these kids birth certificates. After the oldest child was born we separated for awhile and then we got back together again for about a year, when she became pregnant again - when I found out she was sleeping with my brother the entire year that we were together. I finally had enough of being treated like crap and left. I did not hear from her or her sons for almost 13 years when I got a letter in the mail saying I was being summoned to court for paternity testing of these children because she decided after all that time to get me for child support. It was 96% and 97% on the paternity testing on both of the boys - which I know for a fact that the law in Ohio states that in order for a man to be determined the father the paternity testing must be at LEAST 99.9%. My biggest gripe about this whole thing is that while these children were growing up they did not even live with their mother, they were living with their aunt. They are now grown and graduated from high school and one is getting ready to go into the military. They both work full time jobs, support themselves, and do not live at home with their mother. She works full time as well and supports herself. After 13 years I am now ordered to pay $11,000 in back pay child support to this woman. I feel very very strongly that there must be a change in the statute of limitations on child support. I believe that if a woman can support her child for 5 years without help from the father - if they separate - it is her financial responsibility to care for that child. How is it fair for a woman to wait 13 years and finally decide that she wants child support and the judge grants that order? I am doing as much research as possible on petitioning the government on the statute of limitations for filing child support - men and women. This has gotten way out of hand and needs to be seriously addressed.REPORT COMMENTS

I agree, something MUST be done. My ex girlfriend and my son both lived with me ever since my son was born. I have paid for his health insurance, his dental insurance, medical bills, clothes, shelter, everything! His mother on the other hand never got a job, she is perfectly capable of getting a job but chooses not to. Well 9 years into our relationship, I come home and catch her with another guy, in my apartment!! My son was at school thank god but I had to kick her out. She ended up moving back into her grandparents house and immediately filed for food stamps and welfare. 2 weeks later I get notified by the state that not only do I owe $133 a month for child support, but also $11,046 dollars in back child support!! Since her grandparents house can not accommodate my son, he has been for about 90% of the time lived with me after she moved out. He continues to live with me since he has his own room, he and I go places together, and he loves his school. His mother does not have a car nor a license, no GED or high school diploma, still no job, but she collects about $200 that I could use for my son here at home, What really hurts is that the first payment she got, she went out and purchased a digital camera, and also told me she was getting a new nose ring!! This is unfair, I work full time, while picking my son up from school on my lunch break, take him to my parents home and pick him up once I leave work. All she does is hang out with guys she meets online and claims she is just using them for rides?? Please change these laws, mothers need to step up to the plate and get a job once their kids are in school. My son is my priority and the state is giving her all the monetary rights which is making it so much harder to give my son the life he deserves.REPORT COMMENTS

I am married to man who has an X and three children from his first wife. I married my husband ( my first) well after there divorce. We currently have 3 children. I fully agree with child support and that men should pay for their children, but if a man is honest and tries to help then he should not be punished. My husbands X just raked us through the coals and now my children are left suffering. Because we are married my husband is expected to pay so much more, even though we have children that I take care of almost 100% because my husband has to pay such high child support. He was also ordered to pay college education to his adult child. I am not going to make it like we don't have money, but all 3 parties have good jobs, myself, my husband and his X. My husband and his X make an equivalent income, but because he is married he is required to pay more. If it matters that he is married then it should matter that my 3 children are living like I am a single mom. Although worse i take care of my 3 children and my husband. Good thing i have a good job or my children would be homeless while my husbands adult child goes to a $ 50,000 dollar a year college.REPORT COMMENTS
