i am 67 years old, draw SS and still have to work full time. i am in failing health but can't retire because my SS benifets would be cut in half. i would be penalized because i worked at low paying jobs at a time the minimum wage was $1.25 an hour, so i couldn't make a "sustantial contribution" to SS. that is descrimination and the Windfall law should be repealed.Oct 6th, 2014Someone from Pasadena, CA writes:
Many of us earned our benefits serving our country in the Armed Forces. To penalilze us later in life for the services we gave as young adults sends a horrible message to youth around the country that if you "serve" you will be penalized. End this discrimination now. End the penalty of public servants who have devoted themselves to a life of serving this nation and their communities. William (Bill) Jones, Pasadena, CAREPORT COMMENTS

After 27 years of working and paying social security and then taking a position as Records Clerk with Bogalusa Police Department for the last 15 years, I will lose 25% of my social security benefits when I retire. Not only that, but because of Windfall Elimination I will also lose 66.6% of social security survivors benefits if my husband pre-deceases me....Ultimately that could be 91% of money that we paid in for retirement....As is stands, I will probably not be able to retire at all....Repeal this unfair Act.REPORT COMMENTS

We, as Law Enforcement Officers across the country, strongly urge Congress to support HR 1795 - Social Security Fairness Act. Passage of this Act will end the very unfair practice of penalizing us up to 40% of our rightfully earned Social Security benefits.REPORT COMMENTS

If we as retired law enforcement officers, who have paid into ss prior to and after our law enforcement careers can not get the same fair return for our money, then repeal this thing or give us an exemption from paying into it. FAIRNESS!! Just like everyone else. Mr. Reagon got this one wrong.REPORT COMMENTS

The GPO and WEP should be repealed. These laws are criminal in their nature since they deny hard working people of wages and benefits they contracted and trusted to receive under one law only to be later robbed from them by a selectively biased, misconceived, and most likely unconstitutional law.REPORT COMMENTS

It is past time to repeal this unfair law that discriminates against a few and takes away their earned social security. There is no excuse or rationale that makes the GPO or WEP right. Both are contrivances that rob some people of their earned social security (which they must pay into even though these outrageous laws will take the money away and give no benefit). Worse, these laws are not applied to everyone in all states. That is not American. It is wrong. You want to boost the economy? Then repeal these outrageous contrived laws and give people the money they earned.REPORT COMMENTS

I started paying into the Social Security Trust Fund at 15 years old and earned well over the required 40 quarters. Later I accepted a local government job, only to learn that my hard earned social security benefit will be reduced because of it. The purpose of the WEP is to prevent an unfair advantage. However, it perpetuates poverty and economic inequality, and discriminates against a protected group. It is understood that the WEP is a utilitarian concept. However it is an unjust and illogical means that does not support the end. If it were fair then people receiving a government pension from public employment covered by SS would also be subject to the WEP. It is a strategy meant to deter people from employment not covered by SS and penalize those who accept them. This is Social BullyingREPORT COMMENTS

My husband a Vietnam Veteran worked under ss and also as a teacher. He gets a tiny amount of ss pension because of teaching. I had a few years working under ss but also became a teacher. I get no spousal check because I have a pension. Yet if I worked for a private company and had a wonderful pension I would still get a spousal ss check. This is totally unfair!!! By the way I have been paying into Medicare since I began my career. Will that help me in any way. No. I will still have to pay out of pocket without getting any benefits.REPORT COMMENTS
