Please pass the social security fairness act. Having been in both the private sector and public service sector, unless this act is passed it will dramatically impact my standard of living, as well as droves of senior citizens. Both GPO and WEP are unfair legislation.

It is really unfair to penalize public workers and give them little to nothing that they have worked all of their life for. Pretty soon no one will want to be a public servant with this unfair practice. I urge Congress to do the right thing.

Please support HR 1795 for those of us who have paid and paid for the greater good and, as it is now, are made to forfeit what was meant to be ours at retirement. How is that framed as "just"?

I work at a California junior college that, this year, was named the fastest-growing community college of the 2012-2013 academic year according to data released by the National Center for Education Statistics and published in Community College Week. I recently learned from a colleague, who, as did I, worked for over fifteen years in jobs in which employees paid into social security, that our California teachers' retirement prevents us from receiving our earned Social Security entitlement due to the so-called Windfall Elimination Provision. The provision makes no sense, because workers worked hard to earn and save the retirement benefit. It is essentially a deferred benefit. That money came out of our earnings, a benefit that was socked away to prevent an impoverished elder populace. This earned retirement savings benefits society as much as the individual. Workers? retirement savings are being hijacked to balance the budget on the backs of the middle-class. The time during which I worked in the private sector --- if I had instead spent that time as an educator, then my entire pension would be untouched, therefore it is an unfairly-dispensed punishment for educators who bring a unique background and viewpoint to the classroom. Teachers with diverse backgrounds enrich the student experience. Why do entrenched, lifer teachers keep every penny of their retirement, while educators with public sector experience are punished with the raiding of their earned retirement benefits? This so-called ?windfall? is not a windfall at all. It is earned, and it is just enough money to live as a lower-middle class senior citizen. This delayed-benefit is being underhandedly stolen. The so-called Windfall Elimination Provision is an attack on educators who bring diverse backgrounds to the classroom, and who are too busy putting their shoulder to the wheel to have a voice that speaks to the political leaders and moneyed voices who control the system.I ask that you support S.1651 to repeal the Windfall (a misnomer) Elimination Provision and the Government Pension Offset. I appreciate your time. - Monique

I am being denied SS from ex spouse because of my government pension. This is unfair to government workers who spent their entire working career serving the public. Please pass this bill so that we aren't forced to live in poverty.

I worked for the State of Massachusetts for 25 years and opted to take an early retirement to care for my parents. I worked closer to home for emergency purposes. I have paid into the Social Security fund for over 22 years and am still paying into the system. How difficult is it to present this bill to congress, please act now get this bill passed. I am 64 years old and still have to work to just get by, let me enjoy my golden years also if my spouse passes away I am not entitled to his benefits. Please move quick I am not alone in this matter, I will be forced to sell my home and enter a Senior Citizen facility.

Why is it that in the majority of the states in this country women are allowed to receive their widow's benefits if they have a state pension, but in Louisiana I will be cheated out of my widow's benefits when my husband worked for almost 40 years.

Why is it that in 35 other states women are allowed to receive their husband's widow's benefits if they have a State pension, but in Illinois they are cheated out of widow's benefits? Who is receiving that money?

The government could find other alternatives instead of penalizing senior citizens, what about those who are abusing the system. So it's ok for us to pay for illegals to come over have their babies and we get to pay for it. When do citizens get treated like citizens?

My husband paid into Social Security for 46 years and I cannot collect a dime of Widows Benefits because I have a state pension. Very unfair to elderly women in the teaching industry.

Divorce makes this very unfair. In a divorce a person can get half of the ex-spouse's state pension without consequence later to his or her SS benefit. BUT the reverse is not true. The person who earned the state benefit, and lost half in a divorce, cannot collect half of the ex-spouse's SS benefit if they've been married the required time.

I worked for over 20 years paying into S.S. I then changed professions and went back to school to Erin a degree in education. I'm approaching retirement now and find out I will be penalized by 40% because education requires you to pay into a private retirement. This is unfair. I should be able to draw my fair share. Immigrants draw S.S. even though they haven't paid into the system as I have for many years. What a country!!!!
