It's only fair that if you paid into the system you receive the benefits that were promised, otherwise reimburse all those folks their contributions who trusted their government that they would receive their fair share of the money that they invested in it (i.e. their government). This sounds like something you'd get screwed by some of those folks on Wall Street that are spending time behind bars (plus others that should be). Also, why don't members of Congress (and all other goverment emplotees)pay into Social Security ? No one should have the right to "opt out" ! Social Security isn't just a supplemental retirement plan but a social safety net for the unfortunate who can't earn a living on their own ! -

Wives and husbands in America worked hard to make a living. Taxes and social security were taken out each payday without choice. Most of us have retired and aged. I am one of those elderlies appealing for the S.S. Fairness Act to pass. We deserve this right.REPORT COMMENTS

Since I am a retired CSRS, I only get 1/4 of the Social Security that I paid into the system. I am also a widow of a Social Security recipient, and am not allowed any widows benefits. This in my opinion is discrimination against all federal employees. I barely get by and even have to do without some of my medicines or groceries. It is a monthly challenge, decided which I need more, groceries or medicine. I really think the govt. just wants to get rid of the older americans, but they are forgetting that one day they will be the older americans.REPORT COMMENTS

I am hoping that in 2013, your endeavour is successful. This bill has been bought forth so many times in the past several years, but it never gets passed! I have been disabled for many years, which first came into play when I suffered a brain injury in 1972, as a passenger on a motorcycle. To my dismay, the driver was killed instantly, because a car had run a stop sign. My husband was a government employee for18 years after 3 years military time. The long story short version is his employer perpetrated an incident which gave him a disability, and then the employer discriminated against him because of the disability, some of which included giving out negative job references to make sure he could not get employed anywhere else, or within his own agency. But, let me arrive at my destination here. Because a Senator assisted him in getting re-emloyed, but with no back pay, or any other monies he was owed, and eventuallyhe forced out of his government job, and had put into both CSRS and SSA from that time forward, being the years between 1987-1992, following being paid from Social Security for his disability from 1999, he applied for his CSRS benefits. He is now 66 years old. We, too never knew about the Windfall Elimination Provision Act. Because OPM owed him back from 2009, because that is when he turned 62, Social Security has now sent him a bill for $16,529.00, which they just upheld, after receiving my opposition brief pertaining to this issue. I am tired of fighting with all of these govt. entities! None of their facts are right, and their arguments make less sense. But upward and onward to the next appeal process. It would help if you could pass this quickly, so he can win this appeal. Thanks!!REPORT COMMENTS

This paragraph from Senator Feinstein ( CA ) in response to my inquiry about passage of WEP . "Since I first introduced the "Social Security Fairness Act," the cost of full repeal of the WEP and GPO has increased significantly, with estimates as high as $100 billion over ten years. In light of our unsustainable debt and deficits, I have asked supporters of the "Social Security Fairness Act" to work with me on a solution that addresses the inequities inherent in the WEP and GPO while being mindful of our nation's fiscal situation. Additionally, broad cuts are taking place across all levels of government, making passage of this bill, at this time, not possible."REPORT COMMENTS
