I have worked in the private sector for over 25 years. I have worked in the State Goverment for only 15 years. Please don't penalize me for my lesser years for serving my government at lesser pay than work in the private sector. thank you I support the SSFA. -

Passage will benefit not just law enforcement officers, but teachers and anyone else who has participated in social security and government employment programs in their lifetimes!REPORT COMMENTS

I worked in the private sector for 35 years before entering public employment with the state of Louisiana. I feel it very unfair to penalize me by such a large amount of my Social Security benefits.REPORT COMMENTS

I AM A RETIRED LOS ANGELES COUNTY EMPLOYEE,WHO PAID IN TO SOCIAL SECURITY UNTIL THE COUNTY CHOSE TO LEAVE THE PROGRAM IN 1982. ALTHOUGH I CONTRIBUTED TO SOCIAL SECURITY, IN EXCESS OF THE MAXIMUM QUARTERS, I FIND THAT MY BENEFITS WILL BE REDUCED BY NEARLY 50% WHEN I APPLY FOR BENEFITS. THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE AND GROSSLY UNFAIR. THE BILLS NEED TO BE SUPPORTED AND NOT SHELVED IN COMMITTEE, AS HAS BEEN FOR DECADES....NO MATTER WHAT THE FIDUCIARY IMPLICATION TO THE SOCIAL SECURITY PROGRAM. WE PAID OUR WAY INTO THE PROGRAM, WE HAD NO CONTROL OVER LOCAL GOVERNMENTS' CHOICES TO LEAVE THE SYSTEM; WE ARE THE ONES TRULY VICTIMIZED BY RECEIVING HALF OF WHAT WE SHOULD RECEIVED...REPORT COMMENTS

I have only been a teacher in Maine for 12 yrs, however, I earned Social Security benefits from previous employment. I will not be able to collect my Maine State Retirement and Social Security benefits I have earned. So when I retire I will have to withdraw from the Maine State Retirement System if this bill (HR235 & S. 484)is not passed. Only fourteen states penalize people that go into the teaching profession as a second or third career. This bill needs to be passed!!!REPORT COMMENTS
