Place yourself in my shoes. If not passed I get $359.00 SS plus teacher's retirement of $740, meaning I cannot live on this. If passed I get $714.00 SS and $740.00 teachers retirement...this means I can eat AND have electricity ... but not much more. Surly you guys get this!

Taught 31 years so far (fact) and it is a fact that my husband will draw my T.R. but I can not draw his SS after his death. I did not have a choice in which to choose. Insane!! I chose to make a dedicated commitment to the children of Texas and this is how teachers and thousands of others will be treated. Who will get those benefits from my husband? They won't just disappear back into the governments pocket will they? Please help us. Many won't even consider teaching because of the retirement situation. Something must be done.

If I had retired after my 20+ years in private industry, I would get my full benefits. However, since I went into teaching, my earned Social Security benefits will be cut considerably. To add to this insult, I will be unable to receive my husband's benefits, if he were to pre-decease me. Please use your hearts as well as your minds to pass S. 484 and keep public servants from facing a retirement that forces them to live in poverty.

Congress needs to stop raiding the Social Security Trust Fund and filling it with worthless IOUs then calling it a surplus and stop the deficit spending. No privatization -- we the people distrust Wall Street bankers especially after they caused The Great Recession of December 2007 by recklessness and greed. Strengthen SS by making rich pay their fair share of taxes don't cut benefits. Don't let Wall Street gamble with retirement savings. Social Security is for disabled also and their benefits need to be protected. Make rich pay their fair share of taxes into the Social Security Trust Fund to ensure more starts being paid in than paid out and Social Security can remain financially viable and able to supply benefits to those who need them most.

I only want what I am allowed for 55 years of contribution to the system, not 45-50% of what I am entitled to. This is unfair and should be changed.

It doesn't seem fair that our government can dole out billions to help the banks , auto industry and not help the working class.By taking away 2/3's of our Social Security you are the reason many have to work two jobs and not ever retire. Did it ever occur to you that there might be more jobs available if you would give us all of our Social Security. What reward do we get when we do the right thing , nothing. Instead our government will give out free education, free health-care to illegals and they don't even have to speak ENGLISH. People are struggling NOW and need you our legislators to get busy and do what you were elected for....YOUR JOB!We have said enough .

As a female who worked in private and then public service most of my life, I will have a reduction in SS because I'll get a public pension and my public pension will also be reduced because I'll get a whole wopping $300 mo. Social Security. I'd like to know how much is paid out to persons who never paid in? And why are Congress members exempt. That's not double dipping? I want my money back.

Yes make the Social Security system fairer. Also, we need to save Social Security by strengthening it -- don't withdraw money from Social Security Trust Fund flood it with worthless IOUs and call it a budget surplus. Stop spending beyond the nation's means -- pay down the federal budget deficit, reduce the National Debt and do not privatize Social Security ever. Stop stealing SS money to pay for pet projects of members of Congress. Stop lotting the Social Security Trust Fund. Don't privatize it and let Wall Street commercial and investment bankers who are untrustworthy, and greedy manage Social Security -- they caused the Great Recession we are now in since December 2007 that escalated to the financial crisis of September 2008 when TARP began. Of course this was the financial industry's own fault and Washington's for de-regulating financial industry. We need government leaders who'll stand up for the public interest and protect Americans from powerful corporations. Don't cut Social Security benefits or privatize the system. Strengthen it instead!

I do not understand why they call this a windfall.I have friends who have taught and are now retired after 35 years. However,I paid into social security for 17 years and then started my teaching career.I have seventeen years into teaching and if I was getting my social security I would be able to retire in two or three years.Obviously my teaching retirement is already reduced due to all the years I paid into social security so it is very unfair to take my money.

If I hadn't worked a day in my life,I would be elgible for SS benefits at retirement age. I have worked most of my adult life as a public servant. Now retired, I'm told I'm not going to be paid at the same rate as thoes who have not worked at all. This is fair??? Give me back my money!!!

Do not punish teachers by taking away benefits we have earned rightfully. It is simply not fair-teachers are the only ones penalized.

If my wife had never worked, she would be elgible for half my social security benefit. As it is, she has paid more than 40 quarters, but because she is a Texas school teacher, she isn't elgible to draw any social security. Tell me that this is fair.

I earned my SS credits working since a youth. When laid off in aerospace industry in the 90's, I took a test and went to work for a municipality. I won't get full retirement from them as not enough years and I won't get my full social security check although I have 25 years in the system. Then, if I or my husband die, one before the other, neither of us benefits from the others social security benefits. If one loses the other, we will live in poverty as one.

I paid Social Security for many years while in the military and other private sector jobs. I was forced to pay even while struggling to afford the cost of living. When I started working for the state, I was informed that I would no longer have social security benefits (or they would be greatly reduced). I would like all of my money back or remove WEP. If they keep the money that I paid into Social Security, but exclude me because of WEP, they have stolen my money. I already paid my federal and state taxes so what was the social security deduction for?

This new law will help people who have worked for their social security benefits get them. Currently, we are punishing those who for necessary reasons worked in Canada for a number of years and now receive reduced benefits -- not because they didn't earn the SS Benefits, but because they spent 20 years in Canada. Stop this silliness now.

I have worked in Canada for 22 years and am getting $500/mo frim them. I found out today that they atre eliminating $286 from my $1261 pearned pension. I am living in poverty, have declared bankrupsy, and have lost my house all this year. Now the government is taking $3400/ year from me so that I can continue to live in poverty. Shame on the government.
