If you want to take my SS away or lower it, then first take away all the Congressmen/women money away. They have used our money that we earned. It's my money and all that I will have.Jan 31st, 2011Someone from Kooskia, ID signed.

I taught for 12 years and I paid into Social Security for 29 years but my benefits will be reduced by 40+% because I became a teacher. My late husband paid into Social Security for 50 years and my survivor's benefits are reduced by 100% - I get nothing. We need the Social Security Act passed now. Congress has been sitting on this since 1987. I will never be able to retire.REPORT COMMENTS

I have worked and earned Social Security, and my husband has worked and earned Social Security benefits. I will soon be eligible to receive full retirement benefits from SS. I have also been an educator for 22 years and want to retire, but can't afford to do so.because if I do, I will loose my SS benefits. I can not afford to retire from TRS or I'll loose my house and everything I worked for. I need to be self sufficient, as I have planned. Why should I loose the benefits I worked for? I earned these benefits by years of contributions, not just one day, as those who took the loophole. I WANT WHAT I HAVE EARNED!.REPORT COMMENTS

Please be fair with public servants. We have social security deducted at full rate, and lose 60% of our benefit when we retire.REPORT COMMENTS

If you have the time (40 quarters) it is not fair to penalize a persons SS. Elected officials need to take ownership of this problem and fix it!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I have been to the SS office three (3) times and they are going to take 50% of my earned benefit away and this means I cannot retire as a single female senior citizen...I work as staff at a school and have for 14 years and that retirement fund will pay me $800.00 and 1/2 of my SS is $359.00...this puts me at poverty level...can not retireREPORT COMMENTS

Please support HR 235 and S 484.Flag Comment: My husband and I owned and operated a business for over twenty years. We paid both ends of our social security. We are now educators; thus we will see very little of our hard earned money. Had we not paid the social security we would have been breaking the law;however, the goverment thinks it is legal not to pay us for what we paid in. I feel they need to give us back our money plus interest.REPORT COMMENTS

After paying Social Security for 18 years, I became a teacher and now have a small pension ( as I began teaching later in life) It is totally unfair that my meagre SS retirement will be cut, but worse is that I will receive NOTHING when my husband dies, of his SS. He will have worked for 40 years. Is this fair? Can I survive by myself? Why is California one of the states where this is in place, and others do not have to wory about it? That's discrimination, don't you think?? Please put this injustice right. Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS

My social security is cut by 40% because I am a teacher. Before I became a teacher I paid into social security. Now the amount I should receive is reduced. My teaching retirement is less than many others because while they were teaching I was working in another field and paying into social security. It is not fair to take part of that payment. I earned every bit of it. Ann BuntingREPORT COMMENTS

Please treat teachers in California like other employees who have paid into social security. All I want is to be treated like others and have the full amount of my social security payments recognized and receive normal payouts. Instead my social security is reduced by 40% just because I was a teacher. This would not happen to me if I received a military pension. Is this fair. Of course not.REPORT COMMENTS

I worked in the private sector and paid into socail security for 28 years, however, because I went into law enforcement for the last part of my career, I am penalized a substantial portion of my social security because I wanted to help and protect the public. I am now retired and I did not work in law enforcement long enough to get the better retirement benefits that everyone seems to think that all law enforcement personell receive.REPORT COMMENTS

I started teaching at age 43 after raising my four children. My husband divorced me after 34 years of marriage, but I will be denied social security through my ex-husband because I am a teacher. My retirement from teaching will be about the same as someone who never worked at all. I do not see the fairness in that. Teachers are being penalized both in salary and in retirement.REPORT COMMENTS
