I just want to support my family.I would like to have a job to help pay bills and to be able to take my kids out without stress. My felony was 13 years ago.Yeah,I hung with the wrong crowd, but to grow up in a small town I only knew who I knew. And to be a felon 13years ago and now a deacon at church is,if I may say myself, considerably a change in life.If this burden teaches anything-let it be: change your friends, change your mindset and you will change your life...GOD forgives each and everyone of us..the ones guilty and to the ones that were, like me,guilty by association...GOD knows..stay strong and pray for me as I will pray for you all.GOD'S strength is made perfect in your weakness..so continue to do your part and don't give satan any joy...keep your head up...AMEN

I am a recovering addict, 10 years clean and sober, single time offender. In this time I have finsished college, and working towards Bach. degree and on to Masters... I give back to the community by volunteering and mentoring "those populations" that many people find unfavorable. Since one time, I was one myself. I know that recovery and life changes are possible and believe it happens... just wish more people would. Then perhaps so many of "us" could maybe have hope. I own my wrongs, however, I wish I could get it removed from record since I have maintained and fulfilled all legal obligations and have taken such huge steps towards a new way of life. I know that perhaps I am one out of many... but, some people deserve a second chance. Thanks for listening...

I have an adult son who is an ex offender. I am on disability and he is fighting for his SSD. I am staying with friends and family where ever I can. I have applied for housing assistance and have a good chance but, what about my son? He cannot stay with me, what do I do ??? Throw him back out there with nothing, no car and no place to stay. What would you do if this were your own son?

WE need to have this put into effect -for my son has paid his debt to society and really never served jail time but was caught with less than an oz of cocaine and is off of probation but cannot find a decent job due to the fact he has this on his record- He is getting more depressed as the days go by for he hates being broke and relying on me on my mother. This no job will lead him back to the make money fast - dealing with drugs!!! But yet we see people with monies for example movie stars - have a decent income!!! What about the normal ppl???

I agree that society needs to be protected from persons who are predators or those who are STILL dangerous in other ways. But what about those of us who have woken up to the error of our ways and ARE REHABILITATED? How can we be a productive member of society if not given an opportunity? The Judge said ten years, not life. If I must serve a life sentence for something that was originally a misdemeanor... Why did they bother to let me out? There are (some) programs that (used to) provide funding for education that a felon not in trouble for drugs could qualify for... but what's the point....Now I am an EDUCATED reject of society. Who does that help? not society, and certainly not me.

Id say over 50% percent of our population would hold a felony conviction if they would have gotten caught, these same people say oh too bad you cant get a job you're a felon you have to suffer from your actions.... but what they dont realize is what do u think a convicted felon does after losing his spirit of trying trying trying.. he/she falls back into what society portrays them as.. its really sad that we dont realize this and try to stop the snowball affect...

Having a felony (no matter how old) is like a having a life sentance. You are never really fully integrated back into society. This is a descrimination that must be dealt with.

I am a third strike felon, but my charges are not violent. I was only put in jail for a violation, for 90 days, because I failed a drug screen. Otherwise, I have not been incarcerated for anything else. My original charges are all the same: Attempting to obtain drugs via fraud. I was a drug addict and needed treatment, not jail. I finally got that treatment and am drug free now and have been for 4 years now. I was a taxi dispatcher before, and could still be one, but was offered a position as a 911 dispatcher before I was arrested. I have over 20 years exp. as a dispatcher, and have always wanted to work as a 911 dispatcher or go back to medical assisting, what I did before and went to school for it. I would like to go back into either field, but now that I have a record, jobs in these particular fields seems impossible. I want to know why, having fully repaid my debt to society, financially and being under house arrest and probation, can I NOT get jobs in these fields that I am trained in. I was good at both jobs and since I am clean now and was never a dangerous threat to anyone, so I do not understand why I am automatically turned down for these jobs, while someone less experienced and less trained gets them, and I just get shown the door. Please have employers let up on people like us, who have NON-VIOLENT felonies and want to work in fields we were previously trained in, and are good at.

As a felon who served three years in prison for drug trafficking back in 2003 and released 2006. In those three years all I could think about was getting out and starting a new legit life. I was I moved from my home state of Florida to Texas and was lucky enough to get an entry level position at a New regional cell phone company. Within one year I was a Store Manager of two locations. The company did, so well they were bought out by a bigger company. During the merger all my employees made, but not I due to my pass criminal history. I was making 45k a year and just got married the month before. I had mortgage a home, finance a truck. But now I am currently unemployed. Since 10/2010 and have been steady looking for a job. When interviewed, I do great. But when the felony comes up in background checks, or during interviews, I AM BLOCKED. I made mistakes, I was young. What I did was wrong there are no excuses, but I would do anything for an opportunity to go back to doing what I was doing (working in wireless). I loved it and was very good at it. I also wish, I could help other people in my position. It's not easy, but I will never give up. But that doesn't mean I will meet my goals.

After being released seven years ago and suffering from a permanent health disorder I've only been able to find housing that consumes over 75% of my family income. How am I suppose to live?
