I appreciate someone taking initiative to do something! I have a DWI felony from 2007 and am having a horrible time finding employment.

Even worse for any deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals because they already have some barriers from getting a career job and will have DOUBLE difficulty finding a job with a felony record. Federal Gov't simply don't care and all they see is "black & white", not color (which means based on papers, not knowing this each individual). If Feds insist showing that they do care, why can't they flex their nasty guidelines? For sure, more and more civilians are getting tired of Feds' crap.

People make mistake if life and can not move on and reform that life because society will not let them. America people wonder way that unemployment rate is so high it because the people who have a crimnal record is not given a chance at employment, even if that have Bachelors, Master, or certifcation. If you have a crimnal record and made progress to change your life with education and alot of years of passed since your cimnal offense then I believe that we as americans should be given opportunities to progress in life as well. It seems to me that people who have a change there life with a cirmnal history is serving a life sentence given out by employers and soicety not the court system.

Employment! Finding a job in this economy is tough enough to say the least. With having to disclose a felony conviction on virtually every job application makes the chances of finding a job virtually impossible. A fair waiting period is all we want. First time and one time offenders that have done the punishment for their crime seemingly have to pay for it the rest of their lives when trying to find a job, let alone establish a new career.

There's not a person alive who has not made a mistake. It is wrong to flog a person for the rest of their lives after they've done their time.

All that we are asking is another chance to life for first time non-violent offenders. Perhaps narrow the scope of the background check to 5 years, rather than "have you ever been convicted of a felony." Have you been convicted of a felony in the last five years." This would be fair for everyone.

We are contributing to the high costs of incarceration and perpetuating the loss of fathers by not offering hope after first time offenses. Please consider rehab, job training and other answers.

I think, after so many years have passed, without any new convictions, first time, non-violent offenders should have automatic expungement of the felony. Some type of process is needed as an incentive to do just that. At the present time there are no remedies to help in the federal system. It seems like the federal government would be more likely to help than state government, because it seems that just about every state in our union has some process to help their citizens. Hopefully this will pass this time around!
