I think that the attempt at reforming laws that govern Ex Offenders is a push in the right direction. I also think that as the country is on a down hill spiral because of the massive job losses and the layoffs due to the fact that so many companies are being rewarded for sending our jobs over seas to countries in which they don't have to provide certain benefits and pay very low wages leaving the citizens of this country to suffer and forcing us into a recession and by doing so will raise the crime rate much much much higher in the coming years. Of course it would make more sense to give those people who have felony convictions a second chance to simply live and survive. If a convicted felon has not committed any further crimes in a given period of time, and that person has completed the sentence and the legal requirements set by the judge then there is absolutely NO reason to hold this person down, take away there right to live or Black List this person for the rest of his or her life. Let the punishment fit the crime. Everyone makes mistakes just some don't get caught, Those that get caught should be punished and after serving the punishment allow that person to be able to do better for themselves and build a productive life, give that person a chance to make the right choices and build and grow as a person not a felon, not a criminal, not a convict, but as a person. The system as is stands right now every felon is given a life sentence. We should search the law in order to learn if there is a penalty for unfair sentencing or could the sentence given be interpreted as cruel and unusual punishment. Many of the crimes people have been convicted of shouldn't be felonies to begin with. Many people plead guilty to the felony just to stay out of jail but never understood the seriousness of the conviction because the lawyer they had never informed them. They were sentenced to a prison out side of prison its the same. You can't do anything productive with your life because of something you've done so many years ago and your looked down on as one of the worst people in the so called free world. How stupid are the law makers they don't see that felons seeking to rebuild their lives are the one's who have been rehabilitated no thanks to the judicial system period.

I don't think that it should be just for first time offenders or some convictions that are considered dangerous. I have been convicted of two felonies (both while I was pretty young) & one of them is classified as dangerous. My crime involved a weapon; that's why they classified it dangerous, but that does not mean that I am a dangerous person. I just didn't make very wise decisions when I was younger. I have served my time & have grown up. I just want to raise my daughter to be a wonderful woman & prevent her from making the mistakes that I made. It has been extremely difficult to find a job where I can earn a decent living to raise my daughter in a good neighborhood, send her to a good school & just provide a nice life for her.

Its so bad that I have paid my debt to society, and due to the fact that I have a record cannot find a job, this has been ongoing for 5 plus years...don't go infront of a judge and say that you dont have a job to pay your fines, because they will just say that you have not tried hard enough and just lock you up. This needs to change. Charges after a certain time frame should go hiding if you have not committed any new charges, like 5 yrs. something needs to change.

It is an absolute sin what society is doing to these souls who have paid their debt mandated by the courts. How dare we set ourselves up to judge another soul for the rest of their lives, when Jesus clearly said that it was up to God to judge us!! By the hardline tactics that states are taking on past offenders, they leave them no alternative but to either commit suicide or become a larger burden on society by being jobless, homeless, hungry, etc. Everyone who is involved with this movement should hang their heads in deep, deep shame for what you are doing to another ... we are here on earth to be our brother's keeper, remember??? For what it is worth, and whatever your belief, you WILL have to answer to God for this treatment of your fellow man.

I am currently in college. I have been looking for a job since I was release from jail. I apply for jobs daily, answering the question that I dread, honestly and I have yet to receive as much as an interview. This is severely depressing and discouraging. I certain that the choice that I made was a mistake and this society does not make it easy to move on productively. It's almost as if they expect you to continue to do wrong. God Help Us All.
