I'm 27 years old now. When I was 22 I had my first laminectomy/discectomy for my L4/L5 and L5/S1. The neurosurgeon told me I had DDD. I was 23 when I had my second surgery for the same and I had developed spinal stenosis. I've been in need of a two level lumbar fusion for the past year, I've been putting it off. My back surgeries have never worked, and now I have nerve damage in my legs and feet. I have hip bursitis, neuropathy, stenosis(again). I've had dozens of epidural injections, nerve root block and facet joint block injections that seem to have made my pain worse. I had a discogram and it shows my 3 lumbar vertebrae are almost gone. Withered to nothing. I was on Percocet 10mg for 4 years. Then my doctor told me he had to cut my Percocet and put me on a long acting medicine. He put me on Embeda ER 20mg twice a day with 3 Percocet for breakthrough pain. It worked okay for a few months, but then stopped. He took me off of it 6 weeks ago and put me on the butrans patch 20mcg with 2 Percocet a day for breakthrough pain. The patch was horrible. The side effects were miserable and it made my pain worse. I finally saw him on the 1st and he informed me that the "recommendation" from the DEA, FDA, whomever has changed again. Now they're urging doctors to go back to prescribing short term narcotics again as opposed to the long acting. I went through Hell for 10 months because the government feels the need to get involved every chance they can. The Percocet was helping just fine even after 4 years. There was no need to change it. I've passed all of my urinalysis tests, and I've always been compliant. We shouldn't be punished for other people's actions. My doctor shouldn't be punished for ACTUALLY trying to help his patients either. He isn't able to effectively do his job because the government interferes. Without this medication, I wouldn't be here, I wouldn't even be able to try to roll out of the bed. My life is exponentially better because of my narcotics.

You need to help your people. So many of us our laying in severe pain. No we are not drug addicts we are people like you and your family. Sometimes I lay and cry all night in pain . I also have severe COPD. I'm a senior more than senior. I would of gave anything if my lung hadnt ripped from my body. Some believe it tore across nerves and can't grow back healthy others have other opinions. My concern is no one will help us with chronic pain. Our doctors say the can't help us because the DEA has threatened them with jail and license. Doctors send us to the hospitals for help . The doctors at the hospital spends no more than three minutes with us an says we do help chronic pain patients with pain . They collect their six thousand dollars an send you home in pain. My BP has been off the charts due to pain and the don't Acknowledge it 240/90. This happened in 2006. I never had any health problems until that day. We are growing in numbers. You have to stop the DEA from hurting your people. They do not care about the laws they honestly believe they can do anything they want to to your people. They are doing it. Some say that even you will not be able to stop them because of the big Pharmacy money behind them. People in nursing homes are in pain crying because of pain . They will not help them. They are kept behind closed doors away from public. It broke my heart to see. I beg you please help us . When you hurt as bad as I do every day life is not worth living you are our only hope don't let us down. Sandy

I am 62 years old & had 56 surgeries for bleeding of HHT, lip flap, tounge lasered so bad thought was going to pass out from pain, its mad ing here in Ohio, I live in fear of doctor shopping so I don't. I am on neurontin now & if. I go above 900 mg I stager all over the place. My wife grieves for help I need, I am one miserable human being. Was mistreated at a farmacy once for just filling 90 .5 mg of lortabs from my regular neurologist. I did report the rudeness and they apologized so big deal there. It is just so hard from day to day can hardly think strait! They do push lyrics up here by the bottles full, nothing said & it effects my eye site on a very low dose. It is frightfully depressing!

So many people have the same experience w/ doctor discrimination and being left w/ no where to turn. I constantly here about the numer of drug over doses but what about the people who resort to suicide because they can't stand the pain anymore? The system and attitude need to change! Please hear our cries,

There is a company in Florida in which accept many insurances, but sends pt who have Medicare/commercial insurance to er or urgent care. They prefer to send them out to the hospital and deny appt because they "lose money." Making pt on restricted incomes wait months or even a year to be seen and have to pay more out of pocket, which sometimes puts a strain on their finances or maybe even cause them to fall into debt. Why are seniors/veterans being treated this way? JSA pt are turned away due to the health plan they accept. Employees are told to deny appt to them or they will have no jobs.

My doctors have all but taken away almost all of my pain medication, after needing to be treated with this for the past twelve years. I know what dose is right after trying everything from acupuncture to diet changes, along with every pill that might help my disorder (which is in my kidneys). I can't taper, as my quality of life has gone from being able to spend time with family, go on a date with my husband to being bedridden almost full time. I have literally begged my doctor to not do this, to keep the dose at a level that works for my pain, but they are so "afraid" as government is now in the EXAM room with my doctor and I. It used to be a private thing between you and your doctor... and the pharmacist who fills the medication, but now it is not private at all. With the prescription monotoring they allowed hippa to go out the window. Now if you go to fill yoru script it gives the pharmacist a "say" in your care and in your meds to a point that they have no business. I've finally, in a desperate need of some constant pain relief or at Least some "consistent" relief, I went downtown, found a dealer and I do IM injections of heroin for my pain. I do not care if I OD, as my life is painful and I don't have money to go over to Switzerland and let Dignitas euthanize me, but I am saving up for it. I have constant pain, and the only relief is an expensive relief and a risky relief, but I have no choice.

My 30 year old son has been on Methadone for the past 15 years, after a broken vertebrae and then back surgery to fuse L4 and L5 together. Two years ago he had a Liz Franks Fracture and had surgery on his foot. He was on 180 tablets a month until today and it was reduced to 140 tabs a month. Do the physicians realize this is necessary for him to function everyday? First do no harm my ass!! I am a nurse and this is torture for him. Don't know what the answer is but they must find one!!!

I have been prescribed oxycodone 10-325 mg for close to 10 years +, 1 tablet 4 times a day. Now all of a sudden my doctor has started reducing it. I was prescribed 120 tablets a month, then he cut it to 90, then 80, and now down to 75. I am having some bad withdraws, and don't know what to do. He says our state legislature passed a law requiring him to do it. But i ask a house of delegate and he said he knew of no such law. But doctors were afraid of being sued. What can i do ? I've basically seen my doctor since i was in my early teens, iam 62 now so he know iam not a drug addict, i don't use any type of illegal drugs and i don't drink. But iam thinking about maybe starting to, maybe i can get drunk enough to not feel the pain. They should have a plan to get people off these meds so they don't have all these withdrawl issues.

So so many people suffering. I too am one of them. Most of our stories are the same. A professional/s have made us feel as sub human liars. The lists can continue drug dealers, sellers users we are only seeking drugs not medical attention. I have been suffering neck/back pain well over 10 yrs now. Have vertebral spurs, disc degeneration multiple ruptured/slipped discs ,straightening of cervical lordosis & height loss @ C4-7 just what I can think off the top of my head? I'll try not to bore you w/ all the PT, Reiki, message therapy, heat/ice, chiropractic therapy, steroids by RX, chiropractic pillows, neck braces, & traction & pain mgmt to name a few. I lost quite a few lbs & tried different Dr's to see if anything new may have been developed that would help. Also othe physicians said it was important to try every aid that was available that might help me. Including pain mgmt my biggest regret. Pain mgmt made me feel degraded & humiliated as a person. I never in all my 48 yrs ever smoked, bought or sold an illicit drug. I've lived at the same address over 30 yrs, finished high school, went to college & never even got a tattoo. (By no means am I putting down those who have made or not made some of the choices...I wouldn't be any better than some of the doctors who judge us as patients?) I too had to pee in front of some stranger as they put blue discs in the toilet for what I don't know? As they asked all of these questions : Where do you live? (A nice suburban neighborhood.) Are you married? (Yes, 27 yrs to the same man here w/ me today.) Do you work? (No. I've been disabled for over 7 yrs now but I worked 30 yrs consecutively prior to disability.) Have you ever had problems w/ drugs or alcohol or been to rehab for either? (No, never.) A complete medical history in clouding doctors, medication list, surgeries & allergies. ***This is a BIG one as I am a gastric bypass patient since 2005. Per my surgeon & home pharmacist I cannot take aspirin or any NSAIDs. This can cause bleeding in pouch & lead to a feeding tube. Since the DRS don't want me to take pain meds they want me to take the above. Even when I was once given pain meds Vicodin I believe the PA came in & said that not enough had showed up on my urine test so they would no longer prescribe any for me. Fast forwarded a neurologist. I have seizures now & my labs came back I wasn't taking enough of my anti seizure meds. My husband pops up & says you know she is a gastric bypass pt? Oh well then she has a malabsorption problem. She increased dosage rechked labs level was normal. Go figure? Now w yet another disc/s problem my PCP sent me for X-ray which shows problems C4-7 & he is referring me to neurosurgeon who won't make appt til all my past spine records are received & PCP won't give me any pain meds just go back to pain mgmt which I haven't seen in over 2 yrs & refuse to go back since injections did not help. Neurosurgeon made appt today over 1 mos away & the will do MRI @ there place sometime after appt. more waiting, more tears, more suffering. I'm not sure what more I can try except the same conclusion others have arrived at. Pain sufferers have no choices left to them. They even get treated like they have a disease I just feel like a lying lepper?

I AM PAIN. I EXPERIENCE HIGH LEVEL PAIN DAY IN AND DAY OUT; IT IS SO BAD I PRAY FOR DEATH. SUICIDE IS NOT AN OPTION BECAUSE I COULD NOT STAND THE IDEA OF CAUSING MORE PAIN IN ORDER TO BE RELIEVED OF MY CHRONIC PAIN. SINCE I HAVE NO PRESCRIBED PAIN MEDICATIONS, I CANNOT EASILY NOR QUIETLY "SLIP THIS MORTAL COIL." WHY MUST I, AND MILLIONS OF OTHERS, BE FORCED TO ENDURE A LIFE WITH LITTLE TO NO QUALITY? BECAUSE SOME IDIOTS IN THE GOVERNMENT (WHO HAVE NO BUSINESS DICTACTING HOW ITS' CITIZEN MAY LIVE) DECIDED THAT THEY WOULD SOLVE AN ADDICTION PROBLEM BY LUMPING EVERYONE INTO THE SAME CLASS. DRUG ADDICTS. WELL IT IS TIME THAT THIS "CLASS" TOOK ACTION.

The DEA has the doctors afraid to treat the honest pain patients there for the pain goes on and untreated and the DEA goes to bed at night knowing they took yet another license away from A doctor that has years of experience and years of knowing their patients and years of knowing what and what doesn't work for his patients. Yet the DEA sleeps well and don't give a damn about the people who yes ....how was it said: (LTDU) well no doubt we are long term drug users .....DEA calls us drug users while we call it life long chronic pain sufferers . what ever you want to call it the DEA is stopping the DR's from doing their jobs and his patients from any pain relief and the hopes of living somewhat of a normal as normal can be for someone who suffers from pain and no fault of his or her own. the point is DEA sleeps better not giving a second thought of us (LTDU ) and the DR who's worked his whole life helping ease the pain. DEA obviously has no family or friends whom suffer from such pain that it stops them from sleeping and only thinking of how one can help himself get out of the pain he lives with day in day out.. They are so worried about the pain meds and where they may end up at . Their sense of direction is so misleading .Drug enforcement???.... really? and this is the best you can do?

I have thyroid cancer, fibromyalgia, degenerative bone disease and rheumatoid arthritis. My Dr. today told me I was being taken off my meds because of DEA regulations. Have they ever been inside the body of a person that has had their thyroid removed? Have they been inside the body of a person with fibromyalgia? Have they been inside the body of a person with degenerative bone disease or rheumatoid arthritis? I am not on a high dosage of pain meds or nerve meds but let just one person from the DEA have their thyroid removed, live daily with cancer, back pain and see how they cope. My answer is they couldn't. It's easy for them getting big salaries to diagnose illnesses they have no clue what it feels like to have.. Since I left my Dr.'s office all I have thought about has been suicide. Looks like the blood of one more victim is on their hands.

And yet they are bullying physicians into undertreating their patients' pain--patients that in many cases these professionals have seen for many years, and therefore know quite intimately. And they're bullying congress into passing draconian laws concerning how to manage chronic pain. It's now a war against the miserable, poor, disenfranchised, and old. Suicide rates are up due to people being unable to tolerate their agony any longer; what this all amounts to is a culling of the herd. Remember Soylent Green?

I have been a pain management patient for 6 years due to a complications from a medical device. No fault of my own. I am disabled and I started having trouble right from the beginning with some doctors throwing a tantrum and yelling in their office because I was on pain medication 5 times a day. Unbelievably, embarrassing and it made me feel like I may never get treated with respect ever again. Then I found a good pain doctor for a few years but then they started asking all their patients to volunteer to decrease there pain medicine by 10% and then a month later they let of all patients who had state medical insurance. Then again back and forth again to a few pain doctors and then being released because they were changing their prescribing dosages to what the government recommended. I am sorry but when did the government start seeing patients and diagnosing their conditions? Never! The government has no place in our health care or to scare doctors and pharmacies into not doing their jobs. I cannot change what was done to me. Everyday evendors with the medication I struggle. The conditions and things I deal with on a daily basis are discusting. Nobody would want to be me. I don't even want to be me. I am not sure how much more I can take physically and mentally. The doctors I have seen in the last 10 years have been far from superior. Sure there are 1 or 2 along the way but that is so rare. Our Universities are turNing out the worst doctors I have ever seen. As a society we must be more caring then this. Not one person should have to suffer and our GOVERNMENT must stop interfering. Also, for people who are drug addicts they should be treated with respect and treated as a person with a medical disease. I am scared right now of my pain. My pain will not stop. My body is weak and not functioning as it use to. My body is severely damaged and I am very frightened. I don't know how much I can take without having a heart attack or stroke. All this can be avoided. I am still a receiving treatment but not nearly what it was. I love my family and I am so scared I might die. I beg of the GOVERNMENT AND DOCTORS TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT. GOVERNMENT STAY OUT OF HEALTHCARE AND DOCTORS BE A DOCTOR AND TREAT THE PATIENT With compassion and use your medical knowledge to do what is right.

Good people are dying because of your unintended consequences. Doing nothing about that is just as evil as causing it directly. People in severe pain canNOT use mind over matter to function through it. It's impossible. You are not trained to make decisions for patients so stop getting between our doctors and us and killing us! This story made news in Seattle. It will make news here too. And then they wonder why we have a heroin epidemic in this country. It's beginning to be the only drug people can get cheaply and easily because the Dr.'s don't prescribe it any longer. If people could have seen the hoops I had to jump through to get ANY pain med directly following a recent MAJOR surgery even still in the hospital!!!! I am thanking the dear Lord I didn't need much anyway!!!! This country is imploding, the medical field right along with it. I do think they are correct when they say that Obama Care was designed to do this. They want it to fail so that they can regulate a one payer system and lord over who lives and who dies, who gets care and who doesn't. Congratulations to whoever thought Obama Care would 'fix' our medical care and supported the plan. Those people should be given the moronic idiocy award of the century.

I have been suffering with back pain caused by 2 crushed discs, along with pain along my spine and neck. I am starting to do well after three years of kidney stone disease, which I was prescribed pain medication. I no longer take pain medication. My last x-ray on my back was over a year ago. I recently had an x-ray of my neck, which let me know I have degenerative arthritis. My doctor tells me I have osteoarthritis in my neck, spine and back and hips and tells me to take tylenol up to 4000 milligrams a day and I have liver cysts. I honestly feel that due to my age, which is 67, there is no doctor that can help me or even wants to.

I've had 2 major surgeries on my back, many injections that only provided temporary relief, had a nero-stimulater installed (that did nothing for pain ) . Now I can't get my pain meds because I had a drink the day before doctor appointment. I take my meds as prescribed and use for pain management not to get high. Why does one that needs pain management have to suffer because of a lawmaker that has no knowledge of pain themselves. Your way of controlling opiates is just going to increase the illegal delivery of them.

This is complete and utmost miss management of the whole system. Truley very clear that certainly, there are challenging situations. However there is a concept called "problem solving". Apparently there isn't anyone significantly making any headway on this or in various areas in the "medical field". Where there is a will there is a way. I believe this can be repaired. While this does not pertain to the many genuine and brilliant Competent Physicians, there is an urgent need to cut through and bridge the gap between leaving patients in agony while maintaining the integrity of our doctors. Patients need and DESERVE the correct care as well as Quality of life.. We should nbe working a as team.

My doctor told me he is being forced to stop prescribing pain meds and he could lose his license if he did. I have terrible chronic pain and am miserable now. My quality of life has gone from an 8 to a 1 or 2. I hurt so badly I can't move at times. There is something unethical about letting an older woman suffer like this.
