I am the full time caretaker for my husband. He deals daily with chronic pain from two botched up operations on his back. The Dr. that did this to him had also left other patients to suffer before he moved to another state to practice. He also has had three TBI's. The first one left him with perminate brain damage and all crippled up. He can no longer walk or take carer of himself. I take care pif his meds for him so he cannot take too many. Due to the cronic pain he deals with daily he has felt like life is not worth living when it gets out of control. He did not ask for this. Before all of this happened to him he would not even take an asprin. His spinal cord in his neck is narrowing . We are both 67 have been married for 48 years. The pain meds certainly not to get high on. The pain med is needed just to get thru another day and enjoy seeing our grandkids grow up. I am offended that the Government feels they have the right to dictate our healthcare. This is a serious issue with patients that need the pain meds. Doctors are being threatened with their lisence to practice if they try to help their patients. My husband has to deal with pain as well as depression. He does not abuse his meds. Leave the Doctors that are trying to help alone. This has turned into an ugly witch hunt.REPORT COMMENTS

What you are doing to the chronic pain patients is inhumane, I can only hope that all of you get to experience the pain I am in with chronic panceatitis. I did not ask for this disease nor did I cause it, it was a result of gallstones. I am in severe chronic pain every day and it is harder and harder to want to live in this pain which is what I believe the government wants. American genocide? Hitler too went after the ill and elderly first. You are playing God with MY life I deserve to have a quality life. I love and am loved, all of us in this pain have families and loved ones so we are important to them even though our government thinks we are not. I am ashamed of our government and what they are doing to the sickest in society. The lies that have been perpetuated in the wake of OD deaths due to heroine is just that a big LIE. You a re sacrificing the lives of millions to save some 49,000 how does this at all make sense? We have seen many suicide deaths due to people not being able to handle the pain, this is WRONG! Stop this insanity and get your asses out of our medical decisions because you are truly CLUELESS!REPORT COMMENTS

This is not right! I am a Chronic pain suffer, I did not ask for the pain, I was born with my conditions that get worse everyday. It's about quality of life or just give us a chance to try to live better. That maybe the right pain med will just once allow me to enjoy life alittle better if even for an hour; or just once maybe let me go to the park with my kids. Is that asking to much? Why would you make people suffer? Where is your humanity?REPORT COMMENTS

I had spinal fusion in August of 2011 and for the first couple years I was taken care of. Now I can't find a doctor to prescribe opiates, which is all that has ever helped. They all want to give me shots in my spine. I've had depression for as long as I can remember, and being In constant pain makes me want to take my own life.REPORT COMMENTS

When looking at the hundreds of thousands of Chronic Pain sufferers whose pain is so extraordinary that an opioid pain medication provides the only method to rise from bed, and the CDC et al want to remove access to it. There needs to be more open discussion and review so that that community of sufferers does not become a statistic of suicide or self harm. Pain, severe chronic pain is real folks!REPORT COMMENTS

Opiates are the medications that give me any relief from my severe intractable pain. Having them allows me to have some semblance of a life; go to the grocery story, go to my daughter's soccer game.Withholding medication which helps patients is tantamount to torture. Less than 5% of prescribed patients end up abusing their prescriptions. Continue to monitor patients closely for signs of addiction but don't take away our medication because of the potential for a very small percentage of people might abuse it.REPORT COMMENTS

I have two diseases which result in chronic pain. I wish I didn't, but I do. My physician and I have managed to treat the pain so that I am able to live a fairly normal life about TWO OF SEVEN days a week. Imagine that--two whole days a week I'm able to run errands, go to the grocery store, etc. Things YOU do daily without any thought. Without this pain medication, I will be an invalid. Just imagine.REPORT COMMENTS

The fact is that this whole government sponsored war against people in pain is NOT about the well being of pain sufferers, or even people who suffer from addiction. It is totally about MONEY, money sized from suspected dealers, money taken from honest and caring doctors only suspected of operating outside of the law and finally the money that the DEA has been conning out of the federal government since their creation decades ago. Why do you think that this corrupt and power abusive agency refuses to reschedule Marijuana? I'll tell you why, it's because of the amount of seizures and federal funding they get by keeping it as a schedule 1 narcotic. As far as I'm concerned and as a registered voters, the DEA should be totally dismantled down to the bare bones and then rebuilt from the ground up. We need an agency that will go after cartels instead of licensed medical professionals which only creates a huge profits margin for Cartel leaders. So we have to ask ourselves this question. Has the DEA created a false prescription opiate epidemic to further drive and increase the profits of these illegal drug czars because they are being paid off, or could it be because they are just a lazy bunch of power hungry bureaucrats who can only find drugs if they are advertised in the Yellow Pages? My money is on the pay offs.REPORT COMMENTS

Please help us. I live with severe back& neck pain. I was forced into a back fusion without ever given the opertunity to try medication first. My fusion failed and severe pain was worse. I was left surferring for 2 years after surgery for 2 years by multiple utah physicians although i had completed 3 years of unsuccessful physical therapy and had done everything asked of me. I asked multiple times to try pain medication i went through nuro phicalogical testing to determin my pain was physical not emotional and had results, i had imaging comfirming my spinal injuries and nerve conduction studies showing severe nerve damage along with my bone pain. I also have a severe autoimmune disorder causing chronic pain requiring chemo therapy. I was mistreated, neglected and couldnt do anything about it. I was given medications we knew didnt work instead of narcotics. I was put through 1-3 appointments per week for years with no narcotic treatment option although i asked. After 2 years following a failed fusion i was told by my dr about pain management. Even pain management neglected me and treated me awful. They would give me the allusion of helping me but refused to treat me, i was finally given 10% reduction of pain when given a low dose of narcotics and it was like pulling teeth for 8months trying expensive medications that were not narcotics that never worked and charged for multiple pill counts although i never had a pill count not perfect. I was paying hundreds of dollars and told eventually i would get the medication i needed after i went through the process. It never happened. I was a model patient and it didnt matter i was told if i was given medicine i would stop breathing and die. After graduating pain management when i was told i had finished all testing, and all other medication options, and coping skills i was released. I had an unrelated surgery and was perscibed a much higher dose by a foot surgeon and my pain was relieved 80%. I found a new dr & had a consult before making my desesion to see if they were willing to consider proper pain relief using narcotics. A month later i switched care and my pain was then manageable and i wemt from 0 activity to a livable level. I strongly feel i was abused and mistreated verbally and physically by many physicians. I was refused treatment to be tricked into surgery being my only option although my conditions didnt always warrent surgery at that time. I was treated as if i had an addiction although i dont drink or smoke, use drugs, or abuse medications. I followed all that was asked and had ligitament mri, x ray, emg and blood tests comfirming all pain medications. In utah and many other states we are treated like criminals when the laws should allow for patients with valid claims to recieve valid treatment. I was taken advantage of because if u choose a different physician your concidered a dr shopper, or in fear you wont have pain relief your dr's know u will stay. Its not fair and has brought many tREPORT COMMENTS

I am a 46-year-old male who has been suffering from HIV/AIDS since 1987. I was also diagnosed with Major Depression in 1992. I also have Degenerative Disc Disease (2010ish). I also have been diagnosed with Peripheral Neuropathy (2010ish). My pain has been beyond description, certainly not through key strokes on a computer. Everyone?s pain which is their very own is different from others in many ways. We are all suffering and claiming ownership of our pain. You required so many expensive urine samples, following your rules to a T. So much unnecessary pain and suffering that our own Government has inflicted on its most helpless citizens, AMERICANS! I think about death constantly and long for my turn. Yes, the DEA has given us to choose from our basic human instinct. Fight or Flight. So Congress, Yes I am fighting. Fighting you every day has become my reason to live. You will all know my name as this letter will be doctors to do what they are there for and STAY OUT OF MY MEDICINE CABINET! WE ARE IN "REAL" PAIN. People are committing suicide at record rates since this new law has taken into effect. We have no other options since the DEA's unimaginable tainted decisions. Pain comes for EVERYBODY at some point in your life. The supporters of that bill will feel the pain of karma. It's inevitable for us all.REPORT COMMENTS

It's unjustified to conflate the millions who use pain medicine appropriately with addiction, and calling it "dependence". Diabetics are dependent upon insulin, and we are all dependent upon air to breathe! A person needs a predisposition to addiction or an addictive personality to become an addict! Millions have taken opiates for decades without an escalation of dosage or craving heroin. Suddenly they are scrutinized, treated like criminals and drug-seekers, and are abruptly denied the medicine that's doing what it's designed to do; relieve pain, allowing them to work, function, care for themselves and their families, and participate in society. Shame on this government sponsored propaganda allowing discrimination against people in pain. It has resulted in the abuse, mistreatment, neglect, abandonment, and death of the ill, the elderly, the disabled, and veterans. People in pain did not create the heroin epidemic and the rise in street drug deaths! The United States, which considers itself a civil society, should not use the weakest, most vulnerable citizens and their doctors, as scapegoats in the War on Drugs.REPORT COMMENTS
