People should not be judged off of one document. This needs to stop. In Ohio it is called OAARS. I had a bad year with multiple surgeries by multiple doctors, but that year on this surface has me being judged.

I have ha this happen to me! I feel so upset and I feel helpless!my doctor that was treating me retired and that was the start of my torture! The doctor who took my docs place was supposed to continue the same treatment. I had asked my doc before he retired about the pain medication and expressed my concerns but my doc said that the new one taking his place told him that he would follow his treatment as long as the patient followed the rules. I wasn't given that chance cuz he refused to even see me! The nurses put me with another doctor in the practice and he started the whole humiliating stressful journey to hell! I cannot even write what was done to me after I went to him. It has been the worst experience of my life!

I am one of your chronic pain people since 2002 I lost my right dominant hand in a machine and have been trying ever since to get used to my left side which took a toll on my body!! I'm not getting any younger I will be 58 in December now my problem is as long as my bill is paid to my doctor my insurance is paid 4 why the hell is Dea sticking their nose in my business? The real people that the DEA needs to go after are the ones that they are giving pain patches too I cannot remember the name of them patches they gave them to my daughter when she had cancer which I was livid knowing that that is what they use to make heroin with!!! I still have a life to live I have 2 great-grand babies that I enjoy with all my heart and I know of a lot of other people that live by themselves as I do and cannot afford to pay for somebody to come in and take care of their house keep it clean etcetera Etc plus I work a part-time job because my Social Security does not meet all my needs!! I think that the DEA needs to stop with the ******** or maybe somebody needs to inflict some pain on them and let them see how it feels to go on day after day after day having pain!! You do not have a license to practice you are not a doctor so get off the doctors back they went to school to get where they are they don't need somebody that is too lazy to get up off their asses and go outside of their offices to get the real criminals!!! Fentanyl that's what they're called they open the Fentanyl patches up and make heroin with it now if you would go and find out who's passing out the fentanyl patches in order to get their heroin then you might get your job done and your people that you are saying or supposably overdosing from our pain-relieving medicine!!! I just don't think it's fair that I should lay in bed all day long and being in pain and not enjoy life no more as it says first Do no harm well let's stick with it is Trey Gowdy says stick with the laws that are put in the order we are the people that pay you don't forget that!!!!

I had 9 back surgeries and on top of that, recently been diagnosed with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (a skin disease that causes PAINFUL boil-like legions in the armpits and groin area). I've lived with this for many many years, and yes when I was younger I handled the pain well on my own. But now that I am nearing my 50's I just can't deal with it anymore. For the first time in my life I needed a low grade Vicodin to help me roll out the bed in the morning and get ready for work....YES, WORK - I'm an working, tax-paying citizen! Sometimes if my HS flares up I'd need to take another pain pill during the day to help me get through the working day and of course I'll take another after the work day. This didn't have me living pain free, but it did help me coupe with the pain I was having better. I was in no way abusing my pain meds and wasn't selling them either. But then the unthinkable happened. My doctor said to me he wasn't writing my usual monthly supply of pain meds because he has the DEA breathing down his back. "I know your truly hurting but I don't want to be audited." He said. WHAT?! Hey, I can understand trying to make it hard for the junkies and and all. But does us good guys need to suffer? I use to love my country. Was proud to be an American. But this sickens me to the core. Too bad I don't have enough money because if I did I would denounce my citizenship and move to France or some place, where not only there's universal healthcare for ALL it'd citizens, but doesn't leave their citizens in pain and agony like the good ol' U S of A does.

I am a cancer patient; stage 2 lymphoma and the chemo drugs have left me with peripheral neuropathy. Not finished with this devastation yet. The pain from this condition is with me every day now. After several requests to my doctors for pain meds, I was prescribed Gabapentin. Doesn't work. After reading through the comments here on this site regarding the failures of the American Medical system and the many people who are suffering as a result, I have to say, I am not at all surprised but I am scared.

I've been with the same primary care physician for over 30 years but he's gotten impossible. He's off more than he's in, he rolls his eyes when you question his approach and have an idea of your own. You know, studying up on your problem is against a physicians rules!! Anyway, I've suffered from a chronic headache disorder for many years and he always provided me with Fiorinal. I've suffered from severe anxiety and I've been on Valium once a day (on a very rare occasion twice a day) which he always provided. Just recently I got to the point that I thought it was time to change physicians as he's become extremely obnoxious and I know he'll be retiring. As I began looking around for a new physician, they all wanted a physical without even the opportunity to speak to them. When I called one, I explained my situation: same dr for over 30 years, treated for HBP, Chronic headaches and anxiety. Asked if I'd have a problem obtaining the current med's when I make the change. It was recommended that I stay with the same dr because they will not provide valium for maintenance thereapy. I'd in all likelihood be referred to a psychologist or psychiatrist. Is this what medicine has come to? They blame the laws, but in truth, they just don't want to be bothered having to justify the treatment. For god sake, I'm not dr shopping. I'm telling them who I've been seeing. If upon the first visit (a physical) all was well, I'd gladly have my records sent over, but instead I'm stuck dealing with an obnoxious guy simply because he'll provide the scripst I need.

I understand that there are fakers but if your medical records more than validate your disease why than are we being tortured mentally and physically? I keep asking God why did you allow me to get this sick now when the government's doing their best to kill us off.

This is so wrong! Pain patients hoard their pain meds; we who live with real and debilitating pain are extremely careful with our prescriptions! We must not be held responsible for others criminal behavior! Overdosing involves criminal behavior; they are using drugs wrongly and harming the lives of those in serious need of quality of life assistance! I am 69 I have been in pain literally all my life; i never knew it wasnt normal! I have 6 separate disability qualifications; Crohns, COPD, FMS, CFS, Hypothyroid! they over lap and by god so does the pain I suffer; I have sharp chrystals on my ribcage and upper arms also my neck. When I have deep coughing it cases deep pain in my rib wall. I also have chronic myofascial pain! the whole lining of my muscles becomes sore! Imagine that! Stop blaming the patient! Stop offering us drugs that are pure crap! Let us enjoy some quality of life please I need that!

I have had a chronic and debilitating pain problem for more than 25 years, and have been going to pain management the entire time. I need but can't have surgery because I had an antibiotic-resistant bone infection, so I am stuck with taking painkillers the rest of my life. I have considered suicide more times than I can remember, and yet I am STILL accused of "drug-seeking behavior". I call it " relief seeking" behavior. I can't work, can't get disability, can't get the medication so that I can work, so I'm stuck being " pigeonholed" by cowardly doctors and "holier than thou"government officials*'and I'm not alone.

This is outrageous! Training Doctors to NOT treat pain? I've had 11 surgeries and I am sick and tired of pain. Pain Clinics are not treating pain. When I went to nursing school, we learned if a patient said h/s was in pain we must believe them EVEN THOUGH they could be drug seekers, treating pain is the humane thing to do. I'm 60 now, what does it really matter if I DO get hooked on narcotics? I'd rather be comfortable and have a quality of life worth living than commit suicide which is where Physicians are forcing us to go.

Yesterday, I went to my pain management doctor and he gives me a letter dated last month after my last appointment. It says they are closing the pain clinic and that all patients have been informed of FDA DEA guidelines about my meds. He never did talk to me about this. I knew something was weird when last year I had to start taking monthly urine tests and having to have a DNA test to make sure my meds were right for me. I did all that and everything came back just fine for me. I am so very afraid of what will happen to me in thirty days when my meds run out. I went through withdrawals once before when moving to a different state and I honestly don't think I can do it again. It was not only withdrawals but the pain on top of that. It was excruciating and I still could not even drive after 2 months of it until I found this Dr. Now he has had to cut me cold turkey because the FDA and DEA know my pain better than the veteran surgeon that I just had? I can not do this again it is too much. What has happened to our government that they can allow all this to happen to innocent people who have done everything they are supposed to do? I though the US was against cruel and unusual punishment, and I am innocent! My blood is on their hands.

Effective prescribing of pain meds is a balancing act. But it is set against the balance being struck by doctors to maintain an orderly and effective practice (and career) vs. patients seeking relief (and, we hope, a future with chances of health and recovery). Let us do anything we can to lessen how the latter conflict can distort effective prescribing via introducing inappropriate motives/considerations/stresses.

He currently has open wounds on his legs and scrotum that won't heal. His health is being undermined because he is in so much pain that he can not complete his hemo dialysis treatments, yet we can find anyone who will provide him pain management. All his doctors say they no longer write opiods. They are AFRAID to do so or it's against their corporate owner's policy. He is only 37 years old and doesn't want to give up treatment. This is terrible malpractice and a real shame in a first world country.

I am a 37 year old wife and mother of 3. I suffer from chronic pain. I have had excruciating pain in my lower back for many years caused by degenerative disc disease, facet joint syndrome, bulging disc and spinal stenosis. And that's just my lumbar spine! Forget about the burning pain in my cervical spine, and swelling in just about every joint in my body. The "war" against drugs is nothing more than a war on chronic and intractable pain sufferers. Why you ask? Because WE are the ones they can reach! They can't do anything about the drug addict buying heroin, or now ELEPHANT TRANQUILIZERS (Also classified as an opiate)! But they can reach the law-abiding citizens that does their due diligence yet still gets treated like 3rd class citizens! So sad. So very very sad! Reducing or stopping prescriptions of pain medications will do little to curb the abuse and misuse of these pain management therapies. If a patient can prove via a drug tests and monitoring of prescriptions by random pill counts, we should not be denied one of the few alternatives we have to live an "okay" quality of life! I have been ridiculed, demeaned, forced to jump through hoops, given injections that are truly doing more long-term harm than good, all for the good of doing exactly what my pain management doctor has ordered. And for what? To have my physician go over an MRI and explain that I have severe, irreparable arthritis, tell me she's surprised I can still work and function and could potentially qualify for disability AND then cut my prescription in half and prescribe an "abuse deterrent" that is $700 a month! And the reason for this, "Well you know, the government is cracking down because of all the drug addicts out there." So I, a mother of 3, a wife, a Sunday School Teacher, has to suffer because someone misused their prescription! I'm one of many and I know there are people out there suffering a lot more than I am. I pray for us all. Suicide rates will increase. They already have. Thank you CDC for practicing medicine without a license. For making medical decisions on my behalf without getting to know me. May God be with us all!

As an RN case manager for a hospice agency, I am absolutely appalled by this! Since when does the DEA have any business determining how doctors will treat patients. Of course, I do understand that there are people who abuse medication, but that is not the fault of those who responsibly take medications for their pain. Cutting down on the production of pain medications is reckless and will cause the suffering for patients in need of help.

Today its acceptable for Doctor's to give you NARCOTICS like Hydrocortisone which will lose its effect over time and you have to move to even more addictive drugs. Yet when the pain meds fail you its illegal to turn to street drugs which can help you. If your in chronic pain, untreatable pain what is wrong with Cannabis oil, (there I said the damnable word). If its your wife, child or mother would you not do anything to help them or would you watch while they die in pain for years, (what would you do). Its time to change the laws before you find yourself in this place.

They are forcing you to go to the street like common criminals. I have had 4 back surgery's and have spasms in my lower back. I was diagnosed with chronic rediculopathy. (nerve root damage). I was told you can not do anything for nerve damage but they still wanted me to get the shots. They did not work very well but I took them and it cost me a small fortune. I told him I did not want to get the shots anymore so they pushed me out the door. I know the DEA is trying to curb the opiod problem, but their has to be a better way to help the ones that need them. What do I do now, pay more for the shots or hit the streets, At least they don't make you feel like crap for needing them and you can get what you want. Pain management is kind of a joke.

this truly is a real problem with very few options for the patient. too many times where pain medicine is concerned patients are stuck with the one size fits all solution. a 300 plus pound relatively young active man is given the same amount of narcotic medication as an elderly 85 pound woman and if they report this as inaffective they are labeled as being drug abusers. its just plain unfair and more and more drs embrace this action due to fear of losing their liscense to practice pain treatment.we need a viable solution to this problem for the patients sake.i believe patients would overwhelmingly support any medical practitioners who would have the courage to stand up for chronic pain sufferers.

We have one car, she wanted me to buy a new one & I can't work nor have good credit for that & ran into the doctor to ask him to call me cuz I need to talk to him about her as he liked me. I never overused my meds, or asked for refills early, kept bigger bottled in my safe with smaller bottles RX made me with daily prescribed dose on there so I could only replace what I took daily. So scince I live further away now I had to find one 20 min away from Austin him taking me down from 6 pain meds per day to only 3 & doing infections back in Austin that they never told me that but it was every 2 weeks trying to get husband to change schedule as a retail manager is very difficult getting rides cuz he does 1 side then the other in 2 weeks making it very difficult to find rides as I know no one on my area. The reduction in pain meds with my constant asking for him to look at my pelvic floor as I have miserable pain on both sides now I'm going to have other side done 4 weeks after this one on Monday October 17th. I have no clue what I've done wrong as the Dr. I liked somehow has even blocked my #. She won't even let me schedule a consultation appt with him & all emails go thru her 1st. But now I don't think he takes my insurance anyway but is trying to get it back. I never asked for this life of pain used to excercise going to spin classes running with son getting him ready for football 2-adays just 7-8 years ago & that part of my life is gone as well as I'll never work again denied disability cuz I was 48 @ the time with 10 diagnosed disabilities 6 physical 4 mental, now I have 3 more to add to it. The mental came in 2011 when my 16 year old daughter attempted suicide over a boy & her social awkward aniexity disorder with kids & mean girls cuz she was & is. Very, very smart & was a very good dancer even making color guard captain for her senior year but it was 10 days before we could get insurance on my new husbands policy but it caused me to go way back to my uncles successful suicide when I was 4 & my molestation by father @ 11. As well as many other things. I blamed myself but there was no reason for her to do that she's had a wonderful upbringing. I was & am a good mother though they grow up & forget you exist? If I was a addict & this Doctor let me go cold turkey, then why did I not have major withdrawluls except mostly sever migraines & pain so bad in back I feel like my entire body has a crick in it. I've had no support from anyone as my family disowned me due to not hating my sister in law my brother divorced when I live 4 hours away & she did nothing to me. I'm a good honest person & @ my last appt with this new doc I was with only 3 -4 mos he's claiming my pee test came back showing hydrocodene & no generic Percocet or methadone. When I remember I took it I had to place it in a box where there was also someone else's which usually there never is & my name wasn't on mine & that person was still there. It was probably after I scheduled my next appt. & left until they even went out of there office into the restroom to get the 2 pee test maybe 3 by then that isn't locked or where usually you could take it back to them at my previous doctor who only pee tested me every 4-6 months as mine always came back good I've never failed one. They wouldn't retake it as sometimes if I fall asleep without the 5Mg of methadone or even my generic ambien that's a good thing I would think? It says as needed at bedtime when I'm in the most pain now I can't sleep up all night every night with severe migraines plus I went from 4-6 generic Percocet to 3-4 some days or if I slept all day from being up all night from lowering my dose I would take 2 & that specific week I had ran out 6 days before appt & never called for more, just dealt with it crying all the time causing my marriage to go downhill, him moving to guest room cuz I was hurting & so depressed & now even worse scared about upcoming hip replacement & no meds. I'm 49 I have no car & no no one only get calls from bill collectors I block always. I don't know who to trust anymore dealing with this & proof of what's causing all my pain with over 20 MRI's, X-rays, diagnosis's. Why do I get to suffer in what's supposed to be my good years. I was always healthy, thin, never had to diet now I'm a empty nester whose depressed about it all barely eating anything in between paychecks losing 25 pounds doing nothing cuz it hurts more if I do. No friends live close family is so Christ like they disown me never telling me what I did & how could you go to church knowing your a hypocrite who can't forgive your sister when she did nothing & actually deserves him to ask me for forgiveness, cuz family is all you got now I got nothing. Plus in such severe pain everywhere needing to see foot doc. Counselor, chiropractor to get this crick out or try before surgery. I'd rather my Lord to take me than to have this horrible quality of a most painful life no one cares about. Thank You & God Bless

I think the people who truly suffer from pain are getting let down by our drs and government. Big brother needs to find a better way to monitor the drug addicts. I suffered for years before I finally got a dr to actually help me. Only because a disc in my neck finally herniated and was pressing into my spinal cord. Was loosing feeling in my hands and dropping things. Got surgery but still in pain. My boyfriend suffers from a hole in his sinuses from a tooth being pulled that got screwed up. He gets infections regularly in his jaw because of this and because he is uninsured the dentists don't want help him. This country is screwed up!

They are driving everyone crazy and causing terrible pain. And I'm fed up with being looked at as a kind of research subject. I don't exist just to make profits for pharmaceutical companies. The head of the CDC should be removed. The head of NIDA scares the hell out of me, and the DEA should get out of the doctor-patient relationship. Get the profit motive out of medicine. Chronic pain patients across the country are outraged. I'm sick and tired of feeling for years that I'm being spied upon all the time. Do our leaders not recognize what real evil is?

I just made a new patient appointment and was told that the doctor do not prescribe pain med. I found this insulting and confusing. I would probably not take the med if offered but if I did have pain I would just to know that pain mess were and option. I have been a RN for almost 40 years and find it disturbing that doctors no longer treat the whole patient.

I have been in chronic pain since a roof fall in 2006! Thanks to pain management I was able to at least work in some limited capacity to take care of my family and be a productive member of society after being a very successful business professional my entire adult life! All that was taken away from me as the DEA shut down my one pain. Doctor AMD I scrambled and was lucky eniugb to find another who was shjtndown by the DEA both in August a week AMD a half apart! My life is gel! Nibidy can see me OT manage my pain because they are too afraid to prescribe the same mess I have been on for 10 years leaving me suffering in bed, been to the hospital who also told me they can't help me because they don't want to lose their license AMD I havemt worked in weeks ?! I will be our of a place to live and I can't even put a meal on the table for my family! This is a hypocracy penalizing legitimate pain Patients for the drug addicts who will seek heroine or other means to destroy themselves! The DEA should have provided me, who has never failed a drug test and have 10 years of medical records with an approved doctor! This is horrible and this is UN American to let our own people suffer! As with guns, they don't kill people and nobody has died anywhere that took their mess properly! I have no desire to luvr anymore I wish I was dead! We change laws that protect criminals and hurt legitimate people! There is a huge heroine epidemic? I wonder why? And I don't care if Prince or Michael Jackson killled themselves because they were criminals and now so many others who are good people will do bad things! I am nit in of those, I will just let and suffer and prosy I die! Thank you DEA and the administration who governs thus by telling doctors who went to years of medical school how to do theor job with no medical training whatsoever! I hope I die soon but can help others!! Good job morons!!!!

I was reading the national pain report and saw a couple posts where they were contacting their local mews and everyone possible. I think as chronic pain suffeers we all need to join togeather and flood facebook, news and any one we can to do a show on how we are ignored, meds taken away with no alternatives. Tell them to cover the pain rally in dc on oct 22nd i think it is. Sooner or later we cant b ignored. We deserve a quality of life and not left to suffer.
