I am in chronic pain every day of my life and without my meds I would not be able to work and function and have a 1/2 way productive life...our meds are like vitamins to use. They keep us living and able to exist - why would you ever consider making a person's life MORE miserable and painful than it already is!! -

I suffered a broken back at age 12 and was moved without a backboard. I am 50 years old now with advanced DDD, osteoarthritis and severe nerve damage to both legs and feet. One leg to sensory nerves were at 17% my last EMG. The other leg is neuromuscular nerve damage with atrophied and dying muscle, I only wish the sensory nerves were gone. I still manage to walk short distances with a cane. Too many levels are bad for fusion, medication is my ONLY option for pain relief. If that option is taken away you destroy what little life that I have left.REPORT COMMENTS

No one should have the right to sentence another person to endless agony, but this is what is happening right now in the US. We chronic pain patients are being treated like criminals and accused of crimes we have not committed. This is not stopping drug abuse. This is putting innocent people in a horrific situation. Do you have any idea what it is like to live in fear of pain? I have never abused my meds, and neither have my elderly parents (both close to 80) who don't understand why they are treated like criminals when they try to get their meds. This is not the way to fight illegal drug use. You are punishing the innocent.REPORT COMMENTS

The government needs to stand beside Drs & allow them to treat chronic pain sufferers w/the meds they need! Just because there are people who are using an 'invisible illness' as a means to get pain killers/get high, it does not mean that all 'invisible illness' sufferers should pay for their transgressions! Just like all citizens shouldn't have to pay for the idiots who go shoot up schools. By taking away our meds, you will be making some of us turn to other means to reduce our pain. Most of which, leave us tone one less productive citizens. What would you do if it was your child in constant pain? Please re-think...REPORT COMMENTS

I do not think it's fair to those of who are greatly helped by using painkillers to punish the doctors who prescribe them. The Those who are helped by painkillers should not be punished because some people become addicted to them. I do not over-use or sell m painkillers, /I use them as directed and try to live as normal of a life as I can.REPORT COMMENTS

I think the government wants the elderly to die so they won't have to pay the cost of SS or medicare much longer to us, so they are telling the doctors to lets us die. Everyone think about that for a moment, but those same people will one day be in our shoes no matter what kind of care they have, the best I assume, since we don't. It will catch up with them.REPORT COMMENTS

I have Crohns, fibromyalgia and arthritis. The last time I had a severe Crohns flare up my internist would not help the pain but sent me to the gastroenterologist. The gastroenterologist sent me back to the internist. The internist sent me to the pain management doctor who laughed at me and sent me back to the internist. I never did get anything for the flare pain but sat in my rocking chair rocking back and forth going "Oh God Oh God Oh God please help." He didn't hear me either. I can't take much more of this. What about MY quality of life? Are all of us who suffer chronic pain convicted of being doctor shoppers or drug addicts without merit? Are we somehow less worthy of humane care than others who don't have chronic, often flaring into severe pain?REPORT COMMENTS

The government should not be allowed to tell Doctors how to treat their patients. I have been a pain patient since 2006 and it's hard enough to get proper treatment so I can go about my daily activities. Sometimes I can't even get out of bed!! How long do you think any politician can put up with the pain that we live through every day??REPORT COMMENTS
