i think its not fair for the government to tell a doctor how to treat its patients pain. that's just like a doctor telling the government how to do their jobs. and for the record, its not the doctor fault for whats going on. and many of that suffer from pain really gone suffer cause the government always want to take away something that helps people live. i don't see them taking beer off the shelves cause of people drinking and driving. and what about the people that's been on pain meds for years and then they cant get any no more. that's going to cause a problem with in a problem. now they going to go to the streets to get them and there goes another epidemic once again. the government is power control freaks. -

I was told by my own Dr this week that her oath was "first do no harm". That although I have several very painful conditions, none are malignant. Meaning since I'm not going to die from any of these conditions, I should learn to work past the pain. I am lucky enough to.get pain medicine from a great pain clinic. Also, I have kidney disease. So guess what? No anti inflammatory drugs! And when the pain is so intense I beg to go to the ER? I'm treated worse than a rabid dog.REPORT COMMENTS

The DEA is cruel. But they must carry on to justify their jobs. Lots of jobs in drug enforcement. Does not matter if it is demeaning, torturous and cruel!REPORT COMMENTS

if you aren't a chronic pain sufferer , you will never have any idea of what it feels like to be looked down on because you must have paid meds to allow you to live each day without horrific pain that goes on 24/7 .We are stigmatized for something we have no power over and no choice .REPORT COMMENTS

I am a chronic pain sufferer. It first started with the very first surgery I ever had. I have a body that breeds scar tissue. But never found that out until I began to experience bowel obstructions from it! I have had 14 surgeries below my waist and am covered in scar tissue with unlimited amounts of peripheral neuropathy. I also have severe copd..lupus and R.A. I am the type of person that doesn't want to give up or give in. It is only because of the limited amount of pain med that I am given daily that I can even get thru the day. I still am unable to stand or walk for any period of time because taking any more than 40mg. of pain med a day would cause me to have liver issues. My diseases are taking over my body due to autoimmune meds and such. I keep trying everyday to exercise and push myself to keep going. No one deserves to have to live a life in chronic pain ..but there are those of us that do because of varied circumstances in our lives. It is less than human to take away the thing that helps a person get out of bed each day. Without some type of pain control..I would be bed bound and have given in by now..becoming a much larger burden on our system and my family as well. Please don't do this to the patients that go and follow their doctors orders ..if you think it is out of control..try finding good accountable pain management clinics and certify them but don't monitor or humiliate them into not being able to care for their patients!REPORT COMMENTS

This has to stop. Just legalize marijuana already...it is much, much better at pain management and you don't get the "looks" from people that you do when you tell them you take narcotics for pain. I do not want to spend the remainder of my life with horrible debilitating pain.REPORT COMMENTS

Chronic pain is a horrible issue I woukd not wish on anyone. As a nurse I too thought of some patients as drug seekers, and yes there are a few. But it isn't difficult to tell the difference between tge real pain suffers and the others. Doctors know the difference and handle the situation aporopriately. Doctors shoukd be able to treat their patients with they feel is best, not by insurance bottom lines or f government restrictions.REPORT COMMENTS

I have peripheral neuropathy, depression, and fibromyalgia. I have also been seeing my doctor for more than 12 years. I have tried all elements of pain control from losing weight, exercise, meditation, change in diet, and the list goes on and on. I continue with the diet change and exercise. I feel people like me get punished for having pain because of all the "pill" seekers out there; it's unfair and unjust. I feel you can pick these "pill" seekers a mile away so please, the doctors who are treating their patients who they've seen for a long time know what they are doing. They know the patients history and what they did to help the pain before going to pain medicines. I have two small children and all I want is to be the best mother and wife that I can be and if taking medications that help my condition are working so I can lead a productive life, leave the doctors alone. You know who you need to go after, leave the ones who are truly in pain alone, along with their doctors. Thank youREPORT COMMENTS

I suffer from peripheral neuropathy. This disease causes stabbing, shooting pain along with intense burning and a bee sting feeling 24/7. The pain from this disease is akin to having a tooth drilled on without the use of a numbing agent. It covers almost my entire body and has now entered my mouth causing my tongue the same type of agony. Why does the DEA want to withhold pain relieving opiates to help relieve debilitating pain such as mine? Why are chronic pain sufferers required to pay for the sins of street druggies. Why? What are you going to do when a debilitating pain takes away your ability to function due to agonising suffering? God forbid. Please wake up and make these laws more manageable before you're held accountable for numerous preventable suicides. This is serious business you're dealing with. Wake up and take notice before its too late.REPORT COMMENTS

I cannot even get anything but Tramadol in Hbg, Pa but read how others get other pain meds. I also have Neuropathy. All I wanted was oxyacedaminophen for my pain and could not get it. I was humiliated and treated like an addict. I am never on pain meds. Never. I was made to go to a therapist like I had something wrong with me. It's hell to live with pain. I tried to commit suicide because of it. Now I live with pain and I am on NOTHINGl Do something about this. This is so unfair.REPORT COMMENTS

Chronic pain can be treated successfully, but ignorance, bias and distrust causes people who suffer chronic pain even more pain emotionally. Often they are labeled as drug seekers, addicts or doctor shoppers. When a person breaks a leg or arm treating them is easy because their illness is easily seen. Chronic pain sufferers are not so lucky. No one wants pain, but it happens and people should not have to fear seeing their doctor. Stop the mistreatment of chronic pain sufferers. With their pain treated I believe we will be able to live productive lives as citizens who can go back to work, raise their families, and be happy and healthy like everyone else. No one knows how they suffer until something happens and those who naysay and accuse become patients, but by then its too late to help change the way chronic pain patients suffer.REPORT COMMENTS

I recently broke both of my ankles. I had to have a plate and 9 pins in one of them, and I have been in excruciating pain since. After I had surgery, I was given two prescriptions for pain medicine and then told I would pretty much just have to suffer because the laws have changed. I was in a wheel chair for three months. Learning to walk again was very painful. My doctor says I will have chronic pain for the rest of my life. I am honestly not supposed to take NSAIDS because I have sarcoidosis of the lungs, and this can adversely affect that condition. My regular doctor told me to take extra strength tylenol and that does not help. I fight through the pain and do things anyway, but I am afraid there will come a time when the arthritis gets bad and I won't be able to work or do anything for my kids. This is not something that will go away, but out of fear of being labeled a drug seeker and treated like a criminal, I can no longer even ASK for pain relief. (What if I end up with a worse injury, or worse, cancer, down the line and I REALLY need it?) My aunt has cancer and they are even taking away her pain medicine. This is getting ridiculous. The government has no place between a patient and their doctor. I really hope that congress will do something about this. This is not something that just affects some people. Everyone will be touched by this at some point or another. Addicts are still getting drugs. In my state, heroin deaths have increased by over 200% in the last year alone. Something has to be done. I am not an addict and I do not appreciate being treated like a criminal for wanting relief. I shouldn't be forced to take drugs that could KILL me by causing blood clots in my lungs because doctors are afraid to prescribe harmless (when taken appropriately...as most actual pain patients do) drugs that will actually help.REPORT COMMENTS

I have had some of the best spine doctor's in the country, look into my records...no one will touch me. The risk of paralyzing me is too great. I can not function with out my pain medication. .I have tried every injection. I do PT 4 sessions of 12 a year, go to the chiropractor and when I have the money ,pay for deep tissue massage. NOT ENOUGH..here is a fact: I'm not going to get better. When I am denied pain management drugs because there are addicts and drug abusers out there, who wins? I have MRI's Emg's and X rays to back up my diagnosis. When these medications are taken as prescribed there is very little chance of addiction. The doctors have become terrified to help patience's, even with all the evidence of horrific chronic pain. With out my medication, I can't leave my home, do housework, do the shopping and the pain keeps me nauseated so I can't eat. Who wants to live like that? Some people have a glass of wine with dinner and some guzzle cheat whiskey to get drunk, and still there are bars and liquor stores. I would like that explained, to me its the same thing. Some will always use and abuse, we can't take it away from everyone because of them, just not right.REPORT COMMENTS
