I do not think HOA's are necessary, especially the way they are currently structured. They not be a part of you Deed or Loan contract. One should not be at risk of losing their home over issuers,and fines generated by an HOA. -

Not only can they foreclose on a property for virtually any reason, but they also frequently require large advance fees (bribes) even to discuss an account with the home owner. I should not have to have all white curtains to match my neighbor, having black curtains most certainly wouldn't bring property value down. Most HOA s in existence have silly rules like that and no one should be able to tell someone to follow things like that. They charge a lot of money but many of them don't even monitor people not following their rules, many overspend the money on things and then when disaster hits expects the homeowner's to fork up large sums of money when they happen. More and more places are HOA controlled these days it's getting near impossible to find places that aren't run by them unless you want to by a house that is run down and old and not near where you need to live. How about this, get rid of HOA control and just have city laws stating you can't park cars in the lawn? I can understand some rules in HOA communities but those rules should be city/county law not some small mini government that makes whatever rules they want to and fine and take people's homes for not conforming to them. The Government needs to step in at this point even if they don't banish HOAs and enforce that some things people have rights to do and that no one can fine them for doing them.REPORT COMMENTS

My HOA dues are nearly $200/month and we have nothing to show for it. We have no pool, gym, or any amennities, only a small community area. Our community looks like a 3rd world nation. The sidewalks and parking lots are mangled, trash is everywhere, and nothing is ever done. They even state they don't have enough money and most of it goes to the water/sewage/trash. Thats pure garbage! They unlawfully tow our cars and make us pay the fines. This is oppression. HOAs are akin to 3rd world tyrannical governments.REPORT COMMENTS

My hoa needs to go, I feel like my neighbors are the gestapo. They send out community newsletters and encourage neighbors to rat out other neighbors in just about every issue. The yearly dues go up exponentially by 20 -30$ a year even after they convince us adding a newly built neighborhood to the hoa will lower our yearly rate. We now have 1700 homes in our hoa and we share an average sized pool and tiny gym, which are our only amenities. Everyone voted for more homes to be added because it was supposed to be cheaper and it is not. They don't offer monthly payments, only yearly. So I have to come up with one lump sum, which is now $500 a year, will mostly be $530 next year after they hire a full time person to drive around and take pictures of rule violators. What is wrong with the world when legally my judgemental, snob neighbor gets to be on a board and tell me how to decorate and live in my own home? Then send me a letter with color photos, I'm paying for, telling me my law needs to be cut, time stamped after I cut it where the grass isn't long anymore. Since when are adult homeowners not trusted to maintain and take care of their own homes? It doesn't matter how awful it looks to you, it is their version of the American Dream and no one else is entitled to regulate that. This is America ffs, we were founded on the basis and need to have our choices and freedoms protected. The immigrants moved here almost a century ago to live free and experience land ownership without the fear of judgement or persecution. I know it is just an hoa to some people and if you want to live that way fine, but you don't have a right to force the rest of us to, just like we don't have a right to force you.REPORT COMMENTS
