Our Hoa board exempted themselves from paying dues even though the CC$R,s do not allow this! I have written alot of letters about this matter and they just ignore me! Some of these people haven't paid in years. There has been Money missing in the past and they refuse tol let paying members the financial records even when requested!! The board just raised the dues because they don't have enough money,do you think something is "WRONG"here!!!Get rid of all of them!!!

When an hoa tells you what you can and cannot do in the privacy in your own home, there is a huge problem. Constitution rights are violated on a daily basis and it goes unchecked. People are losing their homes to hoa sponsored foreclosure of tern for a fine that wasn't paid. It's time to put an end to it. This is America. What happened to the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It's madness.

Up until the last year (2015) I have been paying a $120 HOA fee for my single family home. I always paid at the end of the year. In 2015 however I was assessed a $40 late fee. I don't really think there is much value in the HOA and I've discovered that the money that they get from homeowners goes to maintain a small park in the housing complex. According to a questionnaire I put out to homeowners associated with this HOA most of them say they could do without it and some had serious complaints against it. I wish I never became associated with this HOA.

HOAs are largely unresponsible to their members and it time to fix that. The rules are often arbitrary and are unevenly enforced. Board members have all the power and owners are frequently abused.

HOA's and their governing bodies do more harm than good. Aside from showing favortism, and lashing out at any home owner that calls them out, the pit neighbor against neighbor. They do not bring people together, they separate them. You don't really own your home. You have to get mommy's permission to do anything in your front or backyard. HOA's are aweful. Do not buy a home in an HOA unless you do not enjoy freedom.

Sad to hear the stories, so sad to know that my sweet brand new retirement home is under the jurisdiction of an HOA that believes my house is not worthy to be near them. It is a beautiful beautiful home. No it is not a half a million dollars and it doesn't have a garage YET. I have been in here just over a week. I went to the HOA meeting they decided needed to take place over my house not being up to their standards. They agreed that the stairs from the deck, the retaining wall etc increased the value of this new build, they voted for approval but fined the builder for not being extremely specific with them about his plans. This is my land, and it was his land at the time. I have been so depressed and I just want to get out of here. I put a for sale by owner sign in the front yard after one week. Too old to fight but these type of associations are actually illegal they are unconstitutional. Mine says I have no right to speak up at meetings (freedom of speach) they can come on my land if i do an improvement and examine the work and either approve or disapprove it even after a builder has city permits in place. After how these people have treated me are they going to come on my land. NO. When I put up a garage I will not speak This is my land I paid for it. The HOA did not pay for or own my home. Angry you betcha 300,000 dollars and being surrounded by these kind of people. I just want out and I asked zillow and realtor if they could start putting up a search button that said HOA or not HOA home. Because if i ever get the energy back to move again that will be the main criteria. I heard back from zillow and they said it was a very good idea and they were thinking about it. It has backfired this whole we will insulate ourselves from those we believe are lower than us. People if given a choice would rather stay away from HOA's. One house hoa the other not they most likely will choose the one without. So inflation on the homes without HOA's will start to increase and hopefully some reasonable minds will start dissolving these tyrants.

Hoa should be limited to only maintain common areas. Otherwise you're just part of a dictatorship. Too many homes are built in hoas, it should be illegal the amount of power they have.

I'm not in an HOA now, and likely never shall be again; but I still own one HOA property (rented to tenants) and have lived in one HOA several years ago. Never again. I believe Common Interest Developments have their place; it can make more efficient use of less land and provide features and benefits individual homeowners might not otherwise have. That's great! It should end there. An HOA is charged with the responsibility of maintaining common areas, and that's fine with me; it should be their only responsibility.

Power without accountability and rapidly becoming the defacto standard for new home sales so the illusion of HOA vs non-HOA choice is just that in many markets.

HOAs have replaced the kleptocracy and discrimination of the 1950s & 60s as a way of enforcing abolished Jim Crow laws...Decent hardworking families can no longer aspire to true homeownership because all the "better homes" are in neighborhoods restricted by HOAs. In South Florida, one listing had a HOA fee of $1755.00 a month? The home itself cost $299,000, how is this even possible? A person never can own their home or are doomed to a life of hardship and struggle in order to pay HOA fees that give you the privilege of being bossed around by people that don't help pay your mortgage or live in your house??? A fundamental tenet of the American ideal is freedom of choice and HOA's are a forced dictatorship... Homeowners nationwide should at the very least be given the option to join or not join the HOA when purchasing the home and be given a non-member contract that requires basic upkeep that maintains a community's standards and that restricts them from using all property own by the HOA...No one should be forced to basically incur a lifelong mortgage or a lifetime of paying double the taxes on your property!

HOAs are a breeding ground for people who need control but haven't been granted in their lifetimes (likely for good reason). I'm experiencing ageism, harassment and slander on a daily basis with my HOA. I've contacted lawyers and they all refuse to help because my state is vague about the powers allowed to HOAs. PLEASE ABSOLVE HOAs! I AM EFFECTIVELY RENTING A HOME THAT I PAY DEARLY TO OWN.
