I have 3 diseases that cause chronic pain. I have taken a low level opiod to control the pain for 20 years. I have had the same dose and the same amount of pills for 20 years. And they have been filled at the same pharmacy. Recently, and on a whim, the pharmacist decided to cut my pill supply in half. My prescription had not changed. My doctor had not instructed her to do so. I had to call my State Pharmacy Board to complain in order to get my full prescription. Real patients in chronic pain who have no history of addiction or pharmacy hopping should not be penalized. This is medication we need. It's up to our doctors not an over eager new pharmacist abusing her power. It's time to protect real patients.

It is ridiculous to make chronic pain patients pay for the crimes of drug addicts. Once a person has proof of medical illnesses, blood work, x-rays, MRIs, examinations, they should not have to go without the medication they need. Punish the actual drug addicts by making "guidelines" on heroin - like not giving them a free, clean place to shoot up with new needles.

My husband has severe disease.. He has been a medication for over 8 years.. I'm so tried of watching him suffer daily.. There is not one thing I can do about it to help him .. Please make this right for people you TRULY need it not the addicts.. The caregivers of these people need a piece of mind

I shouldn't have to feel worse and have no life all because I can't get anything to help my pain. You don't know until you live through this. When is it ok for a Dr to have her hands tied and can only prescribe advil and a muscle relaxer for horrible pain. Heck I don't even ask for a prescribed daily amount. I am only asking for some to get through the really bad days. Do I need them daily? Sure do after 18 years of Fibromyalgia and it getting worse as I age. But like others I would gladly accept some sort of relief. No one should have to live like this!!!! My pain NEVER stops it is 24/7.

Until you go through it yourself, you have no clue. Trying to limit meds for the people who abuse them and taking them away from people who really need them makes no sense. There will always be a bad side to issue. They need to stop punishing the ones who need it

No one would tell a cancer doctor to deny medications that make life easier to a patient but dr's who prescribe meds for chronic pain are told that they must deny patients medication that makes life bearable for those who suffer from chronic pain

Chronic pain means 24/7...pain that goes on forever..no "ending" to look forward to as in pain from surgery. why are we patients being made to suffer the indignation of discrimination? we do not take opiates for a "high"..there is no high for .those in pain..just a small respite from pain. Statistics say that the highest rate of death in those who have fibromyalgia is SUICIDE. I have no idea how much higher that rate is when one included ALL chronic pain. This is ludicrous. Many, many patients think about it every day. Treatment and medication should be prescribed by the doctor..not the uneducated government. I consider it a type of genocide....Please..chronic pain kills...do something by doing LESS! I'd like to say it one more time..Chronic Pain is forever, forever, every day, every day, can anyone understand that? I'm not sure. Thank you for allowing me to express my thoughts.

This is an outrage.Since when is it ok to take away a Doctor's right to practice medicine? I am in constant pain after disk injuries and 2 car accidents. Maybe we should all turn to heroin for pain relief since the DEA already considers us all to be drug abusers. Cut the crap and move on to other issues on the table.

We as Chronic Pain Patients are living in an American Holocaust right now. I?m not trying to take away from the horror of the German Holocaust at all, or minimize it. The purpose of Hitler?s attack on the Jews was Economics propelled by Racism and Anti -Semitism . And right now the American government is also involved on an attack of intentional genocide, also for economic reasons. Our government has done this before when it distributed Small Pox infected blankets to unsuspecting Cherokee on what is now known as The Trail Of Tears where 8 to 9 Thousand Cherokee were Murdered?the people you have voted into office to work for you, has chosen a path of genocide for economic reasons. Their intention is to cull out the ?undesirables? and ?expendables? in our DOLLAR-based economy. And who are the ?undesirables? and ?expendables?? Anyone who has lost their productivity or who are costing the government money. That includes the disabled, the elderly, those on Medicare or Medicaid, the poor, and the uninsured. They are doing this culling through the withholding of pain medication. Since many of the expendable population are dependent on pain medication to do their activities of daily living, by denying them access, the expendable population is shrinking, through DEATH!!! Regrettably 5 years ago my Stepdaughter committed suicide she was suffering from Fibromyalgia and Lupus . She stayed in bed some two weeks out of a month and treated horribly by the Medical Profession. She as thousands more are losing hope turning to suicide and knowing pain relief is out there but being denied help .

I have multiple sclerosis an incurable disease - I have been on vicodine for over 7 years... I have never abused my medication and my quality of life is affected by not having it. The abusers are not chronic pain patients but drug addicts that get their medication off the street. Which is were many will go if not given a legal way to relieve there pain.

I'm signing this for a good friend who is suffering from chronic pain and I would like to help by letting people know she is not a drug addict and I didn't even know she took pain medication that you read about killing people. She said they don't distinguish between people who abuse the drugs and those who need it legitimately for chronic pain so ultimately more will end up dying when they take this away from people who are really suffering and need it to function in ways we just take for granted. Why is the government interfering what should be between the doctor and their patient?

I am 58 years old have never been in trouble with the law , have always had a job and I am a good person and well respected in my community. At 28 years old I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease all the way down my spine. I have always been able to take over the counter pain relievers and ice pack and could control the pain till I was in my mid 40's. The pain is increasing getting worse, and effects my quality of life, I have to baby my back if I lift my grand baby, or carry a bag of groceries I may be down for a week or two. It is so ironic to me that my job the last 15 years is to help people with barriers to employment to find and keep employment. I work with Drug Court and early release prisoners to teach them job seeking skills and write progress notes to judges, parole officers, treatment therapist. I work with many people in recovery. My physician states my job and the fact that I am chained to a computer to do all the required documentation isn t helping the condition of my low lumbar and cervical spine. The last year had been really bad , I have a hard time getting comfortable the pain is terrible and I rarely sleep more than a couple of hours, I have a hard time concentrating at work due to the pain. It is effecting my emotions, and I'm getting increasingly depressed. My last doctors visit was 3 weeks ago and she said all she could give me was 800 mg. of Ibuprofen. She has known me for 30 years or better, knows how I suffer but states her hands are tied, because of the new laws on pain medications. The last surgeon I saw said he hated to do surgery because there are no guarantees that the pain will go away, it may actually get worse. So the addicts and former addicts I work with have made it so I the person that is trying to help them get there life back , can t get the proper medication to help relieve my pain so in a sense they are robbing me of the quality of life I should have in my last few remaining years. I don't want or desire to be high, I just want to take the edge off my pain so I can function at work, get a good nights sleep , hold my grand babies, do my housework, and maybe take a vacation somewhere without being laid up for days in a hotel room, because I twisted wrong getting out of a car or off a plane. Everyone is Not predestined to be a drug addict. Not everyone has an addictive personality, not every one lives their life doing everything in excess; too much drinking, drugging, smoking , gambling , sex addiction etc. There are good people with bad genes, diseases, cancer or have been in accidents that live a poor quality of life everyday because of chronic pain. There are people who commit Suicide because they can t live another day in misery. Wise up and help those who need pain relief.

I am a chronic pain person not an addict. I suffer from Type 3 Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. My joints hang out of socket, I have nerve pain & my joints hurt 24/7. I have had, will have, lots of surgeries. I have a high tolerance to pain meds so I change them often. I have never been addicted & have come off of them to clean my body out w/out any withdrawls. There are so many medical problems that I face & I will only get worse. I'm 45 & can't lift my arms, had my neck fused, tendons replaced in each ankle so I don't fall anymore, thumb fusion that failed then took tendons & wrapped through bone, have metal plates in each big toe, two bars in neck w/10 screws, IBS w/constipation, raynauld's phenomenon, dysautonomia (POTS), hyper extended knees, elbows, fingers, toes, & spinal cord damage in lower back that needs surgery next. The spinal cord damage in my neck needed to be fixed first. I could not function the little that I do now w/out help from pain meds. My quality of life has deminished greatly already because of all the issues that go along w/EDS. I can't dance anymore, swimming has gotten harder, I can't hike, outdoor activities have become less. I can't cook anymore, make my bed, put on my bra, clean my house. I can still be the loving wife, mother, daughter & friend. I can be there for people to lean on, I can laugh & I can love. The thing that helps me have any type of life is taking the hard edge off my pain. To do this I take pain meds. I have never abused them, shared them or asked for more earlier then I'm supposed to. I'm a chronic pain person not an addict!
