What kind of quality of life do individuals have if they are in constant pain?

I suffer from a spinal cord injury called cauda equine syndrome complicated by arachnoiditis. I am in severe pain 24/7, even with the opiates prescribed by my doctor. I am severely limited by my condition, but without the opiates I can not walk or get out of bed. The medication allows me to walk with a cane for short distances, work for our family business sitting down, and enjoy family meals. These new regulations are creating an atmosphere of fear among those in the health profession that are supposed to be helping people like me. Many of us suffer in silence. We, the legitimate patients, are paying the price for those that do stupid things. Please don't take away my dignity and quality of life. Almost every day I read about someone that has chosen to end their life because they were not able to get the medication that they needed. I don't want that to be my fate, but I fear it might. Please please listen to those of us that suffer with severe chronic and never ending pain.

KY #patientsnotaddicts ~ I have had chronic leg pain for 16 years now...only got meds for the past 4 years. My quality of life before them was not very good at all...depressed and hopeless and exhausted from the never-ending pain, crying myself to sleep most nights. I ended up in the hospital for taking too many aspirin and almost bled to death internally...Since I got on real pain meds ( which I take responsibly ) my life has been MUCH better ! I can function better with them and I am not depressed and hopeless like before them. Unfortunately, my PCP just retired and they shipped all his pain patients to a pain clinic. I refuse to give up all of my patient rights and sign an invasive and degrading contract and be treated like a criminal there, so as of now, I am in detox mode ~ I have NO CHOICE ! Some of us ACTUALLY need these drugs just to get to feel some semblance of a normal life. PLEASE, Help US !!!

Taking away healthcare from physicians who have experience and medical training and education and putting it in the hands of politicians or legislative officials should be a violation of rights and privacy. For a legislation to determine what is best for me is absurd yet alone morally reprehensible.

As a person with CRPS for 12 years I know that there has to be a better way. We shouldn't have our daily/ hourly struggle made so much harder by laws that are meant for an entirely different purpose. This disease has no cure and not nearly enough treatment options. It is called a suicide disease for a reason.

Treat chronic pain patients like patients not drug addicts. My pain management doctor is treating his patients like garbage because of this travesty.

Shame on you all for this. If you really want to do some good, then find a way so that big pharmaceutical companies devote more resources into developing non addictive medications for pain. There is a very good chance that a lot of you will at some point in life will have severe pain due to one reason or another and only then will you understand what we have to go through. You are not Dr's, so stop trying to act like you know what is better for us then them.

there IS a problem in this country-we DO need to fix it....to me, a solution that would better solve the problem WITHOUT punishing true chronic pain patients is nasal narcan......it is 100% safe......tthey MAKE it in the nasal kit (or now they even have the narcan pen) anyone can administer it to someone else........it will ONLY work to reverse an opiod overdose-it won't do anything else.........if they would hand them out FREE at EVERY public health office and pharmacy with NO questions asked.........it would solve a lot of them problems.........

YOU CONGRESS MEN AND WOMEN NEED TO ACTUALLY READ THESE TESTIMONIALS. God forbid any of YOU have a chronic pain situation and cannot get any relief from it. You claim that deaths from overdoses will go down , but you have not taken into account the number of innocent victims that will commit suicide because the pain is unbearable-OR, will get God knows what off the streets and possibly die from the street drugs they are forced to buy. Ibuprophen and ice packs just don't work all the time. Find a solution to this! Or an alternative that actually WORKS for chronic pain patients.

I was treated like a drug addict after coming back with for tramadol for back pain and spasms after almost a year. Then I got shingles a few days before my Pain Doctor appointment, I wasn't given pain relief. Now I have phn, the Pain Doctor doesn't want to give me more Gabapentin, (600mg 3xs daily) I am being harmed by these rules!

I have to watch my sister get high on pain killers illegally with no repercussions (and yes, we've reported it), while I, a person who has never once used illegal drugs and has a clean Kasper (KY report for checking prescription drug usage), have to suffer such terrible pain, I can no longer walk without help and consider suicide on a daily basis. There are others suffering worse, and they are even denied the help they need. I'm not saying illegal opioid use isn't a problem. I'm not even saying there shouldn't be some kind of oversight. What I am saying is that, for people like me who don't abuse what little help they're given, these laws shouldn't be so limiting that we have to go 25 years before a doctor is even willing to help us, and even then, it's not enough. That was what it took for me. And I am almost positive that, once my baby is born and the pregnancy restrictions lift, I'll have to go through it again just to find someone to help me be able to raise my son.

It is a shame that so many people are not getting the help they deserve. Between the cost of insurance, doctors that can't or wont prescribe effective medicine and pharmaceutical companies that are only in it for the money, too many people suffer needlessly.
