I think the laws and formulas are messed up. The formula should be 10 percent of the net (not gross) paycheck for 1 child 17.5 percent for 2 and an additional 5 percent for each additional child maxing out at 35 percent of withholding. That way if the person ordered to pay has a bad week/month they aren't taking the entire check or tacking on arears. The law states that the child is entitled to the same quality of life they would have if both parents stayed together. I agree. But if the parents were together and one had a rough month they wouldn't be fined and the child would still suffer with the rest of the family. That would end so much suffering. I also believe they need to put a cap on the amount for high earners. Let's face it, a child that goes to school full time doesn't need 2k a month. After so much it becomes ex support and no one should have to support an ex along with a child. I think every penny should be accounted for and proved that it was spent on the children. Forget a monthly dollar amount, the payer gets screwed. Net percent is the way to go.REPORT COMMENTS

My fiance has 2 kids with two other woman (he was young and thought like a little boy). However, we also have a daughter together. He has joint custody for his oldest son but yet pays her the most $570 and he gets his other son 87 days a year and pays her $430 a month. They take 43% of his check and when he explained he can't support himself or his kids when he has them he was told "well we aren't taking 50% of your check." I'm not sure if this is just me but I am livid on how the woman is treated like a victim! When I was growing up my mom worked 3 jobs because my dad wouldn't pay support, but the thing is she WORKED and not just a part time job... The child support formula needs to be fixedREPORT COMMENTS

I have a very well paying job and support my kids. The father gets away with paying next to nothing every month because I make as much or possibly a little more than him. He doesn't have to have insurance for them because it's "too much" for the poor guy but I have to keep insurance for them. So because I'm not a lazy welfare mom, he doesn't have the obligations other dad's do? I should quit my job and join the loser mom club, live off of support that is crazy high. You get screwed when you try to do well for your family. My current husband pays way more than my oldest kids dad because the mom doesn't want to get a job. Put child support money on a card so it can be tracked and weed out those parents who abuse the system. Drug test the parent who recieves child support. And pro rate child support the first day the other parent gets their child. There is no reason why a parent should have to pay child support when the child they pay for is with them. My daughters mother refused to let me see her. She never worked, Married an abusive guy that raped my daughter for 2 years. I tried to take her away, but the Courts refused. My daughters Mother passed away last year, and i once again tried to get custody of her. A distant Cousin applied for Guardianship, and won. The Judge stated that my daughter did'nt want to live with me. I paid $200 per month in the county where she lived. She moved to another, and i was ordered to pay the same. I have also been ordered to pay $1300 a month, toward arrears that they say i owe, i have proven several times that they are not owed with reciepts, but they keep sending me letters, and say i owe an estate. I do not make $1500 a month. I have 3 small children, and our son is under a Dr's care, and our money is used for meds and visits. Seems like every time we turn around, the crooked courts come after me for more money. My daughters Mother is deceased, I am the father, why am i not allowed to be the father to my daughter. The courts say i am responsible, but only as much as they want me to be it seems. Pay money, and be quiet. My daughter and i had a good relationship building before her mom passed. My kids knew her as a big sister. This affects them as well, but the courts don't care. They take all my money, know i can't afford a lawyer, and never assign me one. I contacted Equal Rights For Fathers, they wanted a ton of money to help me. It's destroying my family.REPORT COMMENTS

Iam paying child support for 4kids one of them isn't even mine. Another man signed her birth certificate. Also both of the mothers told me that they don't want me to ever have any thing to do with their children. So I have tried for years going through the courts and I still pay and have not seen my kids in year's. How is it I go to jail for not paying and they get away with hiding them from me.
