"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke) Why are the ones being penalized for divorce are the children and the working parents? When does it stop?

I support my son with a hefty 570 a month child support payment. Me and his mother never made it, but I pay for it every month. I remarried and had a daughter of which lives with me. When my son visits he has to eat at my house, shower and just have fun of which i pay for.. This may cost me 50 - 150 dollars when he's with me just pending.. After giving my son over 500 dollars and then spending money on him when he visits leaves my daughter with hardly nothing.. I dont spend 500 a month on her and I find it hard to spend any money on son when he visits.. I feel like im robbing my daughter too!

I believe so much needs to change with these laws, I personally have one daughter who is 5 I always pay my support and insurance and recently my support went up again because my ex had twins with god knows who doesn't work, and here's the kicker my kid has lived with my ex inlaws for the last three years supporting my daughter completely while my ex pockets the support and keeps having kids. I'm at my wits end for support and insurance the cost is now more than my rent and utilities put together I make like 1200 a month and after everything I get to bring home 1/3 of that to live on because the system is so broke while she lives for free and at tax time makes about 11k on tax return money its shameful how bad this is getting I work hard to do everything right and by the time things change I might be living in a shelter

Child support laws are unfair in Missouri because they penalize parents of divorce. In Missouri I am required to pay child support til 21 or 24 while the child attends college. If I were still married to their father I would not be required by law to support them through college. The irony of it all is that my ex husband had difficulty keeping a job so it would not be likely we would have been paying past 18. But now that we are divorced and he has been marginaly employed off and on for years living off of social services. I still send money to support children that are 19 and 20. So each month I send a check to my ex who now does not work at all, who lives with his new wife that does not work, my son who is of age 19 and has never had a job and to a daughter who is in colleg but I can not get records or grades or any information about. My only remedy is to spend more money and hire another attorney to fight this.

Its really not right to inclued overtime as your "total gross" income and base child support on that number,,, simply for the fact that the overtime is not always avalible!! and even if you try to work alittle more just to try and make ends meet month after month,, they use it against you when they go and review your annual income every year! (NOT RIGHT)

This is very true, after children are in daycare, the mother should be working to help financially support her children just as well as the father.

My husband has 50/50 custody of his son. The mother does not work, has not really had a job but occassionally does haircutting on the side for cash so does not pay taxes, and she is receiving financial assistance from taxpayers. He pays her $1100/month! I do not see how this is justified, especially since they are 50/50. She is allowed to sit at home and not work, take his money and have us all pay for her, as well. Something has to change.

Child support often supports the custodial parent who is then afforded the luxury of not working, not working full-time, or not working to their full earning potential in a career field. Child support should be to fairly, and equally support children, not enable former spouses. A child costs what it costs, regardless of parental income - and those costs should be covered 50/50.

Men beware!!! My son was supposed to pay support starting in 2005 for his 3 boys. Insted of paying the he and the X-wife verbally agreed to share 50/50 custody and each parent had them 1 week at a time. At the time the X-wife worked and made more money then my son. This worked for 5 years and for 2 more years they shared in expenses but the X wife reclaimed the kids 70/30, and filed against him for back child support. The support went back for 7 years at a whopping cost of 43,000. 10,000 is for interest. In Calif. they charge ungodly amount of 10% interest. He has no savings and has worked his but off so there is no way he will ever pay this unfair amount. The X wife is not working and is living with a beer drinking lazy a-- who doesn't work either .My son was told by child support services that there was nothing they can do about his situation. He knows now to never trust the X and to legally file for changes in support. He now pays 1500 a month and is in the process of losing his house. All the while, the arrears keep rising. BEWARE MEN----- DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU!!! My son was tricked into taking the kids on a 50/50 plan and then his X wants to collect the arrears too! How is this fair? The kids want to live with my son now but he will probably never get them as to the court he looks like a deadbeat dad. The truth is they have a deadbeat mom.

I live in fear everyday, because I make very, very little and I owe a lot. I feel that the way the system is set up they try to make people homeless. Something needs to change, or maybe the payments need to be updated more often, and NOT EVER raised unless the payee has had a PERMANENT AND SIGNIFICANT pay raise. And I think it should be illigal to raise the paying persons obligation when their total yearly income goes DOWN. I have seen it happen, I have seen people jailed of things they cannot control. IT IS NOT FAIR.

I believe that the interest should be abolished as well as R&D fees. If I fall short of 30 hours per week at work my full support payments don't come out. Then I'm forced to choose between paying bills or paying child support that didn't come out of my check. If I don't pay the support they add interest. And if I can't pay the interest, then they threaten to through me in jail or pull my drivers license. What is the point in any of this? If 1 person in a marriage gets laid off and has no income, and the other spouse has to make all the ends meet for the whole family, does the out of work spouse have to pay back the working spouse with inerest? NO!!! So it shouldn't matter for an unwed couple just because they had a child(ren). Yes I realize there are deadbeat dads in this country, but there are also deadbeat mothers as well. And I feel that there should be some kind of law added to child support that if you pay for 80% of the year and u get laid off for a couple of months out of the year that you then should be forgiven for what they say you owe. I used to have a good paying $16 an hour job, in 2008 since then the economy has gone belly up and I work 2 part time jobs in retail where I make $8.50 per hour. I live on less than $500 per month now for the last 2.5 years and untill a year ago I was paying out what I was paying when I was making $16 an hour which was almost 50% of my income for 2 kids even now hours fluctuate week to week, so if I don't get the hours needed to pay the amount child support says I need to pay it goes into arrears and interest is added unfaily I might add. There are no more Percentages only flat rates in my state of WI. Which only works out in the payers favor if you get a certain amount of hours every week. Child support projects what you will make for the year and then expects you to pay that amount regardless if you're making that much or not. Some weeks I pay 38% and others I pay 30% depending on hours. I don't think that this is fair because it puts me in quite a pickle at times.

So much talk of men not paying child Support. While responsible fathers end up basically end up paying alimony under the name of "child support". MAXIMUM CHILD SUPPORT should not exceed the national average of cost to actually support the child. Anything beyond should be optional!!! The custodial parent should also be held accountable for 1/2 of the support unless there are special circumstances. Each case should be looked at individual and adjusted based on cost of living where the child lives. There are just too many factors involved to just use a straight percentage. Such as, who left the marriage? Is this a pattern with multiple children from different fathers? The list goes on and on. And then it just keeps going up and up.....Why should a man be penalized for advancing in his career well after a divorce? If he has been paying child support consistently, he will more than likely want to give his child more directly. Should not need to go through the mother. Also, how can it possible be justified that the custodial parent is allowed to claim that child as a dependent when the father's child support far exceeds the cost to actually support the child?????? BOTTOM LINE.........THERE ARE SO MANY DEADBEAT FATHER IN OUR COUNTRY AND INSTEAD OF TOUGHER LAW TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM OUR LAWS PENALIZE RESPONSIBLE FATHERS.

My husband and I both work full time and support all the needs of his son while the mother has never held a full time job and does not use the child support to pay for anything for her son! We still provide the health insurance and pay for ALL his extracurriculars! Yet we struggle to pay our bills while she received a $300 increas per week every 3 years! Why work? Why do we work harder when she is paid more than what we are working hard for?

The perception imposed on single fathers is disgusting and unbearable. Can women be just as capable or as men? True. Then, people need to start understand the other way can be true as well. Single fathers are just as capable of being great parents as single mothers. If a father decides to take care of his own child with full custody, then he should be the one responsible for taking the budget out to take care of the child, not the government. I've seen way too many cases that the child support money goes to waste. Why should some men pay for a woman who doesn't take responsibility to take care of her child who she won custody over and spends all her money on alcohol and drugs? It is a flawed policy that is unconstitutional and must be destroyed.
