I also think there should be a way to track how they spend the money. Because they will take the money no matter what happens to me but we can't find out if that money go's to the kidsREPORT COMMENTS

I am 100% opposed of any type of Welfare or state funding where women are allowed to have all the rights and men have none. This is never in the best interest of the children; therefore, there should be no breaks or free rides given based on gender or if one has children or not. This system is a waste of all tax payer's money...period.REPORT COMMENTS

Child support in California is nothing but a scam! My son was born two weeks after my twenty first birthday to a mother I was no longer with. Out of spite she slapped me with a child support case. I've never been to college, and am currently homeless. I was ordered to pay $360 a month. There were times I was un-employed and couldn't pay (not that they care). Long story short 16 years later I owe $27,000 in child support and $22,000 in interest. That's almost 100% interest! I have never had the correct visitation with him, and his mom is never held accountable in any way. I have court ordered visitation and even when she hadn't complied and I call the police they refuse to help me. I'm currently homeless and owe a total of $49,000. However I am employed. Six months ago I started making steady monthly payments of $500 to try and put this behind me. Today I looked at my monthly statement I noticed the balance HAS NOT WENT DOWN AT ALL! Not a single dollar. This will loom over me for my entire life. I can't rent an apartment or buy a house or even obtain a passport. This is a scam by the state to collect revenue and nothing more.REPORT COMMENTS

I have 7 children two of which have graduated high school. One is in the U.S. Army continuing a legacy that started with me and his uncle. The other has moved to Maryland with her fiancƩ and my grandchild. I have always faithfully paid my child support knowing that it was my obligation to my children, I currently have five minors who are under the age of 18 years old. I recently had my license suspended because they say that I was not paying enough towards my child support. The state knows that two of my children have emancipated therefore are able to support themselves, but I continue to pay towards the back support owed to the best of my ability. I divide what income I have amongst myself and all my children including the ones whom have left the house to live on their own. While in court the enforcement officer and the lawyer for my the Department of revenue representing my childs mother did not take the time to understand or listen to my statement for why I could not pay the full amount. They DOR representative says that she felts as though I was keeping all my income for myself which was basically an assumption and not a fact. This upset me as a father because I will give my child my kidney or organs if needed. I have done the best I could until I was not able to I am currently 60% disabled and I have an appeal pending. I currently go to school fulltime so that I may become a better candidate for employment to help with my child support until I get a higher rating and I may qualify for social security. I never have experienced this type of issue before until now. I am veteran and I feel that they can do better. Not all fathers are dead beats some come on hard times and it throws things out of sequence causing a hard ship please let me know what I can do to help get a better more up to date childsupport law passed. I need my license because this suspension does not only hurt me but it hinders and hurts my children who are not on state enforced child support . Why not try training the non custodial for the employment world instead of throwing them in jail or suspending their license. This should only be done when the non custodial parent does not make an effort to help at all, not when they are trying. Allow the non custodial to state their case and not cut them off. You don't know what someone is going through and why they are not able to pay if you just assume they are doing otherwise.REPORT COMMENTS

Laws need to change.. Its not fair that a parent who receives around $700 a month of SSI check can not be forced to pay child support just because that money is not counted as an income, both male and female decided to have kids so that's means both need to see for the children. I was the sole bread winner in our family before the wife left for another man. She refused to work (despite having a masters degree) and because of that I am stuck paying her alimony and child support. $1600/month just for child support. Is that how much it costs to pay for a kids needs? I would gladly have full custody but we know the courts never give that to the father. There needs to be accountability on how the money is spent. I would much rather she just bill me directly I would probably save $1000 per month.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe the system is unfair to men and women take full advantage of it. And, men should not be put in jail or have to deal with suspension of drivers and professional licenses due to inability to pay while nothing happens to the mother. They both took part in making the children, so why does it feel like only half the party is being held responsible?!?!? Things need to change. And why would a father be penalized for not paying when they are homeless and jobless while the mother and child are doing fine. It's heartbreaking!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

I really don't think that making the child support paying parent broke is in the best interest of children. Leaving in a bad neighborhood and having no money to spend on the kids when they visit, do not make them wanting a relationship with the parent. Especially if they have a nice home with the other parent.REPORT COMMENTS

I agree that this would be a good start, but it doesn't change the fact that the calculation is almost entirely based on the NCP's income. It doesn't matter if the CP is working or not. The total of both families income should be considered along with the childs true expenses. The calculation unfairly assumes that the CP knows how to spend the NCP's money better than they do. Why not give the appropriate amount of money to cover true expenses? Then let both parents spend whatever additional money they want on the children. This calculation unfairly penalizes involved NCP's who want to be an equal part in their child's life. When the NCP provides much more than the CP spends on the child, it creates resentment and contributes to the an antagonistic relationship between CP and NCP. Making a bad situation worse. Please consider another petition or amending this one.REPORT COMMENTS

After 6 years and 50 plus thousand in attorney fees I still pay 1825 a month in child support with 50/50 custody. I work 60 hours a week, while my ex works one Pilates a week if she feels like it. She is a recovering addict that cheated and had two abortions with other men and now after knowing someone for 4 months gets married and I'm still on the hook to pay almost full child support, 75% medical, dental and feed and cloth them when they are with me. I love my kids and would do anything for them but the laws in New York are ridiculous. My ex quits her jobs before she recently took me court and it just doesn't matter! She has no incentive to work while both my children have been in school for 4 years and she only has them 1/2 the time!REPORT COMMENTS

The family court system and Department of Child Services are more of a mafia then they are an asset to helping children or families. The way they are designed to work is the sole reason they are used as a weapon of mostly women to retaliate against the fathers of their children. This isn't used by so late lower income women but women of all socioeconomic statuses. How many of you have heard the phrase" take him to court and make him pay"? The department of Children Services is often so backlogged that oftentimes men get a letter one day in their mailboxes notifying them of thousands of dollars they have to pay simply because the department failed to act in a timely manner and it becomes the man's fault for late payment when there isn't even a system setup to make a payment. Having default rights given to one particular parent mostly the woman is an absolute scam. The system has been set up and created to not be a support system but a child penalty system. The success of a man's career should not have a direct relation on how successful a woman is at receiving a certain Financial figureREPORT COMMENTS
