Duane T. from Cocoa, Fl (reside in WA) - I lost custody of my three children for taking a job out of state. I was a SINGLE father for five years (divorced after seven years of marriage I had custodial custody). I did not receive any child support from my ex-wife because she was getting assistance from the state due to mental illnesses. I contacted the state to see if my children could get assistance through their mother SSI and that was denied. So my ex-wife did no have to pay child support. I worked in the aviation industry until I was laid off due to the Space shuttle program ending. I accepted a job out of state but before moving I went to court to move my children out of state per court policies. The judge denied having my children move out of stat and gave custody to my ex wife who's father is her legal guardian due to some mental illnesses. Once she retained custody I was immediately placed on child support. I was ordered to pay 82.72% of my children's obligations equaling 2004.04 per month. My ex wife lives with her parents works part time 20 hours a week so she can keep her SSI. I have been taken to court every year since 2011 and the courts agrees with her even when there is no valid proof. I have remarried and have two more children and the court did/does not take that into consideration. The courts does not consider the cost of living in Washington state is much higher than it is in Florida. The child support law really needs to changed. The two of us created the children but the Brevard County courts (four different judges so far) has made it clear that only one parent ME has to be responsible for the children. Just to be clear I provide for their medical and dental insurance, 2004.04 for the last five years recently reduced to $1600, 82.72% of uncover medical and dental expenses, 80% of airfare for visitation. For some reason the court makes me pay 100% of my ex-wife's attorneys fees even when I do not have an attorney because I cannot afford one. I two am a military veteran and just as Nelson and several other men in the United States WHERE IS THE JUSTICE for not only the military fathers but all the fathers being taken advantage of this bias law. Women scream for equality for everything except for when it comes to supporting the children the helped to create. It seems like no one hears the cry for help or change from the father's who are working hard just to survive.

The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is treating me like a criminal after my exwife went to court there and requested an increase of child support. She purposely lied and the CSA in turned requested garnishment of my wages from the Army and added a supposed debt. I have not been a resident of Puerto Rico for over 10 years and I live where the Army tells me to. I have two new children and happily married. However, they were not taken into consideration and upon much argument they indicated that a child in PR only needs $146 per month to live! They are applying their substandards to my children who are not in PR and have never lived there. The cost of maintaining a child in KY are significantly higher but they are not considered. I am losing my car and my wife has to work extra now to cover our minimum expenses while my exwife gets $2456 per month tax free, claims our daughter in her income tax, and provides ZERO support to her since she is in college and her expenses are covered by GI Bill. WHERE IS THE JUSTICE FOR MILITARY PERSONNEL?? I have done everything by the book and now get slammed.

I have paid child support for years. The mother jumps from state to state opening case to case it took almost three years to get fixed. She had four states involved now down to 3. Michigan told me it was illegal for them to talk to me. Is it because I'm the one paying child support? She is even in contempt for not allowing me to see my child . We need a change. I have had my licence pulled once and got it back . But states don't communicate with each other. Only to take your money and your licence . Bad part is I'm disabled and she gets 175 in child support and draws a check from my social security which the could of used for child support

My ex girlfriend that abandoned me and left with my 2 month old baby. Wants me to pay 850 dollars in child support. She has been hiding for a month and does not allow me to see my child. She doesn't work. And I was providing housing for her and her other 12 year old kid. She is also only living here with a Daca permit otherwise she would be an illegal alien. It's not fair that after all I did she just takes off because I didn't marry and she wanted me too because it was in her best interest. All she wants is the money and it's sad that I'm a n honest person worked all my life and been good. I get bad treatments and no one helps me find my daughter. They just say go to courts ,but yet child support right away no questions asked I have to pay 850 dollars it's insane because I live in San Diego . I gross 55k a year but only net like 2300 a month which is like 27900 dollars. Rent for a one bedroom apt is about 900 to 1300 for a one bedroom. Where am I suppose to live the streets. It's not fair , she doesn't work and just takes and she is givenneverything . I that work ,owe student loans, health bills, irs and have living expenses I don't get breaks. Someone needs to listen and do something about this. I just want to see my baby. And my baby is not a business. She is my daughter , I'm deeply saddened that the govt. Doesn't see it that way. Always gives women whether good or bad every right and we as men get scraps of any. It's unfair to all the parents that get bullied by the system.

I was the breadwinner in my household (due to laziness on other parties behalf) and now because of that I am expected to pay for her attorney for not only the divorce but also the child support case. Here's the kicker....I don't have an attorney!!!! By the time my bills are paid and being a male in the state of Nevada I was expected to shell out $3500 to $5000 for a "retainer" so someone would represent me!!! Mom gets to go to court with an expensive*****attorney because I am expected to pay for it and now being held in contempt of the court because I haven't. How does that work?! I turned in FDF forms more than once but to what avail? They weren't even looked at or the judge would recognize I DO NOT HAVE MONEY FOR AN ATTORNEY FOR ME, WHY WOULD I HAVE MONEY FOR HER ATTORNEY? Our legal system is so corrupt and flawed. I have no faith in "a fair trial" because I was scorned for showing up without an attorney. I hope this matter gets looked at and fair starts making a comeback. There's nothing fair about divorce in the state of Nevada. Nothing!!!

I have fought an interstate child support case when Alaska (issued order) and Arkansas ( state my child lives in) both denied me a modification on the grounds that neither would claim jurisdiction. Eventually I won in Arkansas who now retains sole jurisdiction for enforcement and payment. The order states explicitly that Alaska no longer has jurisdiction. Alaska is still sending me threatening letters and demanding that I pay them instead. They are now saying that THEY have jurisdiction after denying it since 2013. They also stated that they will continue collection efforts in defiance of that legal order. They told me that my ex has to change it and that the court order was not enough. I have the whole conversation recorded and emails saved. It has taken me having two attorneys and my state Representative along with the Governors office to get the judgement in Arkansas and they still refuse to follow the court order. I am a disabled vet due to combat who now suffers from seizures and every time I get stressed out I have seizures. I have been hospitalized 5 times in two weeks due to this. On one occasion I was put on life support. They know this and yet they continue to defy the court order to threaten and harass me in an attempt to have me violate the court order in Arkansas.

MAN has the OBLIGATION to care for their child, but MAN also has the right the live as a MAN (insert woman here if applicable) , but child support laws in various states, such as Texas make it impossible for adults to care for a child and live above poverty limits. In no way should a man work 2 jobs, carry medical, dental, and life insurance for his child, yet not be able to afford less than $700 a month in rent, and we won't even discuss basic necessities such as food! At the same time, the mother of the child is able to purchase new vehicles, and has another child with a live-in boyfriend who does not work because he is an ex fellon, does anyone see how this is flawed? Texas, as many states, takes non custodial parent's (NCP) earned income into account when getting child support numbers - all earned income. If the NCP worked OT during the review period, it is taken into consideration, 2nd job, rental income, all is taken into consideration. This means no matter how hard a NCP tries to get ahead, they never will, and whether there is a significant need from the custodial parent for the money - it is NEVER taken into consideration in the state of Texas. In the state of Texas child support is nothing but an algorithm, a mathmatical equation, that uses the magical 20%, and less per each child a NCP is order to pay support. Mind you, if a NCP has an agreement that isn't ordered, a copy of the agreement mean s nothing if you haven't gone through the Attorney General's office so that they can put you through their math equation. A NCP is never asked about minimal living expenses, such as water, gas, or electricity, they're not even given a deduction for mortgage or rent, not even a small $2-500 deduction (in this area of Texas finding anything for $500 is a joke, so a $500 deduction is suitable). In our situation, a NCP walked in already paying $365 per month plus medical, dental, and life, and walked out paying $564 plus medical, dental, and life because he picked up a 2nd job not realizing child support was to be taken from that job as well. Oh and did I mention the extras that I'm sure everyone buys their child on birthdays and Christmas..because that's their child and it is what you do, well, we don't have enough.to do.that now, and the mother decides to talk down on us because we can't buy presents. It is a no win situation. This has broken our family apart. We were planning on getting married, but there's been so much happen. He's changing jobs, but I tell him it will not matter, the more you make, the more they take! That should be the slogan for the Texas AG! All the while the NCP (his child's mother) is enjoying her stay at home father, her new baby, her new car, and all that comes a long with it. I know there are reversed situations where the NCP makes more than enough money; I suggest an algorithm that is more unique to each situation. Rather than 20% off top, find the true need of the child in the situation. I supp

I recently went through a divorce because my ex-wife was caught up in an affair. I have always been there to care for my child. I am a military member living away from home of record. I faugut for my child because of my exes criminal history and substance abuse issues. Prior to the divorce my ex also got knocked up which my insurance paid for because we are still in the process of divorce. After two years fighting for custody, she received full physical custody and I am forced to pay child support with unfair visitation.

The current child support laws infringe on my personal civil liberties & should not be mandated. I agree that parents should be held responsible for their children after divorce but this law stipulates unfair minimums that cause financial crisis to thise that honestly pay support. This law needs to be removed or minimum onligations need to be revised lower. The only things this law supports is the creation of deadbeat dads and under the table career choices.

I just want to say, my husband and I have been struggling for nearly 4 years to make ends meet. We have two beautiful babies together, ages 8 mo and 2 years. i also have three step children of my husbands who were born to a previous spouse. I am just going to lay it out there, my husband pays $800 a month for his first set of children, and no matter what we've done or how we try to even things out, the courts do not see my children as worthy as my step children. Why is this? How is this even fair? Every time we have tried to get the support lowered to consider our children's expenses, they find some reason to raise it. And if I were to file for support, I receive only what is left over after the first amount of support is deducted off?? How is this even right. Our kids are worth a whopping $90 all together a month but the others are worth $800? How is this right when the ex chooses to work only the minimum and all of the first children are in school and mine are not, so we have to struggle to pay $500 a month in daycare costs yet her children are school aged and can't possibly require the same daycare needs as our children being so small. Any time she is not working we have them, or her boyfriend is watching them. There is no babysitter for her, what is my husband even paying for is what I want to know! Oh well my advise out there to anyone reading this is simply KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!! Karma does not need a helping hand to do her job... Anyone paying support there is a light at the end of the tunnel, it will not last forever!
