The laws protecting animals must change. When ordinary people become complacent concerning the everyday slaughter and abuse of innocent animals and common decency and compassion no longer exist in the morjority of a society for the greater good, then all humanity and our very existance is surely in peril. When you protect the weakest purely for the righteousness of the deed, that is when one becomes a hero. The world cannot help but become a better place when ordinary people strive to do the heroic thing. I ask you...Please...Strive to do the heroic thing. Protect the weakest who cannot protect themselves. Sincerely, Deborah Taylor -

I agree with this 100%. Now instead of inmates killing these animals, maybe they can help feed and take care of them. Rehab for both animal and inmate. This also shows the inmates compassion and skills they can use if and when they get out of prisonREPORT COMMENTS

I know there are many important issues to be dealt with, but that applies to our animals also. Just look at that unloved, lonely, neglected dog in the picture above here. It is crying! Please, will the good-hearted people amongst you, help to convince the others in Congress to do EVERY thing possible for our animals NOT to continue suffering like they are.REPORT COMMENTS

@ 41 years of age I thought by now there would have been tremendous improvements to how we deal with helpless animals. Instead of finding a solution, shelters continue to resort to disturbingly abusive & ill-concieved treatments. I hear horrifying stories of what people do to animals to dispose of them. Shocking enough there is no punishment for those who kill & torture these helpless pets & animals at these shelters. Please inforce the law by creating a REAL & humane solution to protect our animals to have a chance of being rescued and / or adopted.REPORT COMMENTS

I am doing this petition in defense of our animals that have been put into shelters across the United States. There is a problem with our shelters in our country, (Mostly In The Southern States)These shelters are not allowing ample time for these animals to be rescued, or adopted. They are useing heart sticks, gas chambers, that have holes in the walls, and doesn't work the first tme, as well as other means to have these animals die. Some animals are being abused in these shelters.I am asking you to make it a law, to extend the time these animals have before being killed, so they have a fair chance of being rescued, or adopted. There have been animals that have been wanted, but shelters are ignoring this and killing animals anyway. The other concern is having inmates, threw work release programs, having the job of killing these animals in shelters. This is not a good rehabilitation method. We are counting on you, our Congress, to change laws so these animals are protected.REPORT COMMENTS

Animals are living, breathing creatures who do not deserve to be treated like garbage. Please give them ample time to get adopted, & if must be put down, PLEASE do so humanely. Heartstick, gas chamber are NOT humane but rather insanely cruel. And using inmates as a work release to murder??? Kind've setting them back, dont you think?REPORT COMMENTS

This is atrocious! Reminiscent of the Holocaust where 6 million Jews were gassed to death based on their faith alone. These poor, voiceless creatures are not to blame for being born & should be given, at the very least, ample time to be networked & adopted. Gassing/heartstick are not humane ways to die. Putting them in the hands of inmates to seal their faith is even more inhumane & DEFINITELY not a wise rehab method!! My GOD! Who enforced that?!REPORT COMMENTS

Their care is entrusted to us, and we let them down time and again. This is a disgrace, and I believe responsible pet ownership should be taught in the schools (since clearly the message isn't shared in many homes) to aid in turning the tide. No matter what, our animals should not be subjected to heart sticks or gas chambers.REPORT COMMENTS

Animals need to be treated with compassion. We need to stand up and protect them. We need laws to be created that animal abuse should be a felony. How dare anyone torture innocent beautiful animals that have feelings, and senses that are stronger than us. They def have stronger senses smell , eyesight, hearing, etc. They feel more pain. Stop the killing and violent acts of murder.REPORT COMMENTS
