I would like to know what the definition of the word shelter means. I was always under the assumption it meant to " protect ". Well, most of the " shelters " in this country do not protect the innocent, rather the people that work there and play God every day. How many more have to wait 40 minutes of agonizing pain before they are finally released into death in the gas chambers. How many more have to endure the horrific pain of a heartstick..a huge needle stuck into the heart..can u imagine sticking a huge needle into the heart of a baby..would you work there and listen to the screams and cries of the innocent victims in those gas chambers as they shake violently so sick it is unbearable. Why don't some of you witness these atrocities that are commited in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA EVERY SECOND OF EVERY DAY !! To MURDER healthy, adoptable animals for what they call " lack of space " is so barbaric and inhumane I don't know how some people sleep at night. These " protective " places for these animals must be fixed and people with some compassion should be running them not KILL HAPPY people..who make way too much money to be LEGAL MURDERERS !! Do you know that they all know they are going to die..have you ever looked into those faces and into those eyes of those victims ?? We're not progressing so well and I urge you to take steps to strictly enforce spay/neuter laws, put puppy mills out of business and stop the horrors of euthanizing animals inhumanely and unnecessarily.REPORT COMMENTS

Perhaps placing a caps on the fees for adoption centers will also encourge the adoption of these poor animals for families that truly want to give them a home. Less fees, less overhead for the centers, less maintaince for the shelters, less wages for the centers, less animals, less length of stay, more happy families!REPORT COMMENTS

I experience the killing of animals killed despite rescue all of the time. Stories of massive numbers of dogs shot and bulldozed over, mass euthanzia, horrible conditions, unspayhed or unneutered adopted and not followed up with adopters. Some state laws require this; yet shelters are able to break the law everyday in their cruelty, neglect and abuse of shelter animals. It is time for this country to put a stop to this 'legal' cruelty.REPORT COMMENTS

I have personaly volunteered at my local animal shelter in Louisiana. The people there play judge and jury over the animals. They get put to death quickly,. It is not enough time to find your pet if they are lost. We give more time to help cold blooded killers with MY TAX DOLLARS and I feel I SHOULD have a SAY SO WHERE MY HARD WORKING MONEY GOES. I do NOT want to give A/C and TV to criminals anymore -HELP the innocent.REPORT COMMENTS

We're counting on YOU, our elected officials to do something about this. AS you may know, we consider animals members of the family here in this beautiful country of ours & we need to protect their rights too! Since shen did a "SHELTER" stop becomming a "shelter? Now it's a place that euthanizes 30,000 dogs & cats a year? We need a shelter.... from the public shelters!!!!! They are unclean, full of diseases, euthanize healthy, adoptable dogs & cats by the thousands, and it's disgusting! There NEEDS to be laws against this, protecting them. We need more compassion in the world not more killing. Killing these animals does not in any way help the problem, it is a bandaid, and an unacceptable one in these days.
