As a civilized nation, it is time for us to legislate on behalf of our animals and the way we respond to animals in need of rescuing, shelter, and services. I am always reminded of the immense amount of money we spend daily in our involvement in the Middle East (an endeavor that is not likely to bring us any success), yet we completely neglect to have laws in place that assist our pets and animals. It is time to wake up and help our animals in need! -

Given the above information: all shelters need to be regulated with very high penalties. It would be simple to require all pets to be spayed and neutered with in the first 30 days of owning the pet or the driver's license is revoked. I think the State of GA, has something similar. The pet should be removed on the 1st assault and placed in a no kill shelter. Each shelter who euthanize must contact pet rescue facilities and non-kill shelters.REPORT COMMENTS

I am signing this petition in defense of our animals that have been put into shelters across the United States.There are problems with our shelters in our country. These shelters are not allowing ample time for the animals to be rescued, or adopted. Many are using heart stick, gas chambers, that have holes in the walls,and don't work the first time, as well as other means to have these animals die.Some animals are being abused in these shelters. I am asking you to make it a law, to extend the time these animals have before being killed,even if they are owner surrenders so they have a fair chance of being rescued, or adopted or better yet let's make it a law that there are no more kill shelters/pounds. There have been animals that have been wanted, but shelters are ignoring this and killing animals anyway. Inmates who are on work release programs become attached to the animals they are taking care of only to be told they have to kill them - bring them to the gas chamber etc. I think it is great that the inmates are working with the animals but then they have to watch them die a horrible death. It doesn't seem right. (If you haven't seen how a gas chamber works feel free to google it but it is horrific.) We are counting on you, our Congress, to change laws so these animals are protected. Did we not learn anything with WW2 and gas chambers? Heartsticks, really?? I thought there were laws against animal abuse. Not to mention the fact that there are so called shelters out there that hold an animal for a minimal amount of time before killing that animal. No chance even of adoption at alot of these shelters. It isn't allowed. Why not??? Give those animals a chance to find their furever homes. IT IS TIME FOR CHANGEREPORT COMMENTS
