All dogs deserve a chance to live. The owners are the ones who train the dogs to be mean or fight. All the dogs in question with breed specificity are not mean. -

This is heartbreaking. I took in an abused pit mix 9 yrs ago. She was afraid of everything. My son was one at the time. To this day my son and 2 daughters have grown with her. She is happy and thankful for her life. I couldn't imagine a world where she doesn't exist. We have recently rescued two pit mix pups and my family adores them.REPORT COMMENTS

BSL is ineffective and punishes innocent dogs. We must instead implement harsher punishments for dog abusers. Hold the OWNERS accountable!REPORT COMMENTS

Pitbulls test extremely well when it comes to temperament and aggression. I hate these thugs that have given the breed such a bad name. All of these irresponsible pet owners. It's not the dogs fault. They are going to kill so many pitbulls because of this and it makes me sick to my stomach. Loving, loyal companions will be punished and it's just breaking my heart.REPORT COMMENTS

BSL does not work. There is no scientific evidence that Pit Bulls are any more dangerous than Chihuahuas. BSL needs to end. It's unfair to be punishing innocent dogs who are treated poorly because they happened to be raised by humans who were unfit to raise a dog. It's the equivalent to being racist, and it's not okay.REPORT COMMENTS

Montreal has disappointed and disgusted many with their ignorance by enacting ridiculous legislation that will prove, as it has time and time again, to be ineffective. Breed-specific legislation (BSL) DOES NOT WORK. Every dog is a unique individual, and every dog?s behavior is in large part a result of their environment. Owners must be held responsible. ANY breed that is inadequately socialized, poorly trained, and/or not cared for can exhibit inappropriate aggression, regardless of their genetic makeup. To generalize the behavior of a dog to an entire breed, is to throw facts and reason in the trash and to surrender fully to fear. This senseless legislation will not only result in the death of hundreds (if not thousands) of innocent dogs who do not currently have homes, it will also cause pain and stress for owners who have this targeted breed as a member of their own family. Owners who cannot afford the higher licensing fee will have to risk breaking the law or surrender their dog to be euthanized. I feel sick for the families and dogs affected by this. And at the end of the day, the people of Montreal are not any safer. The message must resonate ? dog behavior is not determined by breed or what a dog looks like. Dogs are abused and neglected at the hands of humans every day, yet it is the dog who is blamed.REPORT COMMENTS

I think its so wrong for this to happen no one should have to get rid of their dog or put there dog down no one should have to GI through this pit bulls are the most loving friendly dog I've ever owned its how people raise them to be mean. For this to happy blows my mind and breaks my heart for innocent dogs to get put down.REPORT COMMENTS

I don't even live in Canada but my heart goes out to all the dogs that have to be put down because of their breed. That's not fair. Pits are sweet dogs and amazing family pets. This needs to stop.REPORT COMMENTS

I have a Blue nose pitbull. I trained him myself. He's never bit anyone or even barked at anyone. I take him to the dog beach and it's always the little chihuahua breeds that do all the barking. He stands there and allows them to sniff him. Make a long story short, it all starts with the OWNER. It's the same a raising kids. You teach them wrong, than there gonna act wrong. Being an dog owner takes responsibility. It has NOTHING to do with the breed.REPORT COMMENTS

I don't personally know a single person who has ever been bitten by a Pitt. I do, however, know plenty of people (including myself) who have been bitten by other breeds of dogs. The same factor always came into play: the dogs were poorly raised and some even abused. Dogs in loving families don't behave this way unless taught to.REPORT COMMENTS

Fear of a dog that was abused and trained to fit the stereotype assigned to them doesn't address the actual problem in the community which led to the stereotype in the first place. Spend more time catching the criminals who are using these dogs in illegal activities, and spend more money towards shelters and rehabilitation programs if you actually care. Taking away a citizens best friend so you can do less work of finding a solution is disgraceful.REPORT COMMENTS

Humans are constantly putting our animals in harms way--we over breed, neglect, make them fight, and then blame the animals for their actions. STOP BSL! We are already killing millions of homeless animals due to our own neglect! It is time to do right by animals. Stop over breeding (regulate breeders--the days of having your dog or cat to have babies are over--go adopt!) and stop this ignorant legislation. BSL is not the answer. Not even close.REPORT COMMENTS
