The current policies for the education system and its very structure do not reflect or foster the minds of human beings, rather they create robots relied on for labor and our capitalist state. Horace Mann created our current education system through education reform that reflected that of the Prussian model of education that never had the best intentions for our students diverse minds, rather it was designed and has succeeded in having students be subservient and trapped in an environment that fosters conformity. Not only do the students suffer, but teachers do as well. Not only do we have to say NO to Common Core, a complete disaster for the minds of our teachers and students (but a success for a standardized culture), we also have to say NO to the current model of education. It simply has never worked in allowing humans to evolve or the minds of humans to evolve for the sake of humanity, as well as failing in motivating ALL of us to make a better future happen and deconstruct the colonialist framework of the U.S. that has led to such institutions as education. It's time that education is transformed based on our findings of how it currently isn't working, and that we seek to create an education system that is experimental in nature and not forcibly universal. Because quite honestly, absolutes and this convenient idea of everything having to be permanent limits us from achieving our true potential as human beings. Enough is enough. Let's not just stop at this petition; power must be in our hands as teachers and students. Nothing will ever be changed if we don't start and continue the conversation from the ground up. We can no longer seek immediate and convenient solutions, too much is at stake. If "they" won't listen, let's make them listen. Who is the government supposed to serve anyway? Us. And it's time that was made a reality. Sending hope, power of voice, and the will to make change happen your way.Jul 6th, 2016Someone from Brooklyn, NY signed.

2nd and 3rd grade teachers say half the kids get it. It's the half that doesn't get it I'm concerned for.REPORT COMMENTS

We can sign all the petitions we want but the ugly truth is that "They" don't care what we have to say. They don't have to care because there is no repercussion for ignoring us. Until there is, nothing will change.REPORT COMMENTS

Looking over the idea of common core, I find it an appalling method of math that is preparing students to fail, not succeed. I am not a parent yet, and I do not want my future children to be raised with a system that is designed to put them down and limit their future!REPORT COMMENTS

Having to learn Common Core math and taking the ACT exam has been very confusing for me. What math I'm learning is quiet different of ACT. So basically I'm at a disadvantage.REPORT COMMENTS

As a Junior in high school, I can firmly(and safely) say that common core will help no one except for the owners of Collegeboard and whomever else owns the different standardized tests.REPORT COMMENTS

In your haste to catch up to other countries in education excellence, you failed to consider what got them to where they are and Common Core is not it. It's creating stressed out, frustrated and discouraged humans. Thanks for for putting our kids even further behind.REPORT COMMENTS
