My son is in the second grade at a dual immersion school (learning an additional language as he's being taught his curriculum in said language. In this case, Italian) and the program is a wonderful asset to the district. Now I know it was our option to enroll him in this school, knowing that there would be the added challenge of not knowing any Italian (The teachers are not allowed to speak any English, only the target language) but since he's been there since Kindergarten he has adapted and is doing well in both his English and Italian studies. So you can imagine my surprise when he started bring home his math homework in Italian and it was based on Common Core. I mean, one of his assignment has him using paper clips as a unit of measurement. Really?? "So how long is that cut in your ripped jeans?" "Gee, I don't know, maybe 16 paper clip lengths" Also, because the homework is in Italian, it's using the metric system when trying to use regular units of measurements to determine how long each paper clip is in centimeters. Confused yet? Anyways, the bottom line is this: The common core program and testing blows. The people behind it never had it in school, so why should our children struggle? Hopefully, some people in charge will pull their heads out of their ass. If it isn't broke, don't fix it.

For some reason my 4 year old needs to know about Abe Lincoln, some female astronaut, MLK, when he doesn't know the time of day, what day of the week it is, how to hold a pencil correctly, in this day and age, where both parents have to work, I feel the school system should be teaching our kids useful everyday things, and it should progress through the years to pertinent things like balancing a check book to paying bills, etc.. COMMON CORE IS A JOKE!!!!!! Get real people! Our kids are going to suffer from this ridiculous curriculum! There is no way of convincing me different! Things need to change with the times, and we are definitely NOT doing that! STOP COMMON CORE, STOP COMMON CORE, STOP COMMON CORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enough with common core! As a mother to a kindergartener i see how much he is struggling with common core teaching. He absolutely hates school! He has homework every night...in kindergarten! Half the questions i dont even understand! They are teaching him things i didnt have to learn till 2&3rd feade. At his age he should still very much like school. Common core is ruining are children. It is stressing them and frustrating them to the point they want to give up!

Common Core is one of the worst policies I've ever heard of. It is not making kids think, it is making them stressed out and increasing rate of failure. This system is absolutely terrible and harmful to the educational environment. People are supposed to want to learn and be able to understand. Not sigh and think how much their grade is going to drop because they won't be able to pass this test. Make kids want to learn, not hate to learn:

I am a student and common core is extremely difficult for me and my classmates. Our math teachers are teaching us the long, confusing way first, then show us how to easily do it. Why confuse us first! We need to be thought the simplest way so we can understand the lesson faster! We are also being politically manipulated, in thinking the way the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT wants us to think!! We need to be able to think "outside the box" and not how the book wants us to think. We NEED to end state testing and bring education locally so that WE could be thought at our level, not someone else's!

I have yet to meet an educator who has anything good to say about Common Core testing. There is nothing wrong with setting standards for education, but there are good teachers losing their jobs because of socio-economic factors.

Common Core is a poison for our children. We NEED to stop it right now. This country was built on free thinking and the right to learn, and Common Core is trying to take that away. #stopcommoncore

As a parent I hare seeing my 1st grader set to such horrible expectations she is being taught stuff that most people didn't learn until they were older. The test are ridiculous teachers are more focused on preparing for these test then making sure children understand what they are learning. Common core needs to needs to be stopped

This common core isn't designed to help our children succeed but a deliberate attempt to make them fail. As a parent I stand against Common Core.

Common core should have never been implemented into our education without the consent of us students, honestly if you want to ruin our education give us a say in it.

Teaching Common Core it's not helping anyone. My son was good at math but it's too much for him to follow now that has to turn a 3 step math problem into several times the work. I not only have seen my children struggle with it but I have seen college students struggle with it. I worked with the student population of a local community college for almost 3 years. In that time I have seen a number of students struggle and fail classes not only because this is not the math they were taught in elementary, Middle, High School but because the teachers are telling them they are wrong for what they do know. Same problem, same answer, and yet they fail because the method in which they got the answer is not ridiculously extended like Common Core teaches. The old system was never broken therefore it never needed to be replaced. Please remove Common Core from our schools.

I'm a 14 year old student and I remember math as relatively easy to understand I've always had at least a B on it. Now I'm struggling to maintain even a C- I'm not learning anything. Is this my fault? I just want to be homeschooled maybe that's the only way to save my education. I mean really only giving us a packet everyday to figure it out! One day my teacher explained something to us in 5 min that took us 1 week to kinda understand it all because of common core.

This needs to stop....this is dumbing down our kids, where the traditional way was the learning way...why is it that we have just a handful of folks telling us what is needed for our kids, just because they teach their own kids what they want? Government needs to get out of the school and let these teachers teach
