Put white-collar offenders back on the street to work and make money/restitution and contribute back to society. Doing no good at present in prison, since it serves no rehabilitative purpose. Penal, yes, but 65% would better serve society.REPORT COMMENTS

Clearly focusing on punitive vs rehabilitative efforts has done nothing but increase the prison population, increased economic costs and broken apart families which has its own negative effects on society. It's time for change, and this is a step that needs to be taken.REPORT COMMENTS

My daughter was 2 years of age when her Dad went to prison, she is 10 now all she knows is his voice! I'm not saying that he shouldn't have been punished but fourteen years plus was just ridiculous! Prison is suppose to rehabilitate but putting them behind bars for all those years dont rehabilitate them it turns them into refugees! Done missed out on so much and just can't get right! Allowing them to be with their families and nurture with stipulations should be awarded! #singleparentREPORT COMMENTS

I think it should change to 65 percent. They needs to be more workrelease programs to help get started working. Sadly small towns offer no support or willingness to hire exinmates. Most cases they have to move to larger towns. There is just as much going on inside as out families are being overcharged for phone calls an money exchange.i know this from experience.they are not animals. Some just give up.REPORT COMMENTS

I think that it is unfair that a non violent felon has to serve more time than a violent felon. My husband has been incarcerated for 18 years was sentenced to 21 years and 10 months no gun no money charged with intent and conspiracy he has done over 90% of his sentence was denied clemency yet is still not home how fair is that?? Definitely need to change some things 85% should be changed to 65% asap.REPORT COMMENTS

This is true. My fiance received 3yrs 8 mths minimum for a drug charge only plea he received..... a man who is locked up with him for murder received 3 yrs maximum sentence. What is wrong with the system... I mean instead of sending someone who has a drug problem to prison send them to a true rehab facility. Get them help.REPORT COMMENTS

I feel like 85% is waaayyyy to much time for some offenders. We get it, they commented a crime but if it was a non violent crime or if it wasn't a sex offender crime I think that they should be able to get sentenced to 65% and be able to get a good paying job so that they wouldn't feel like they have to keep resulting to the streets for work. These prison are over crowded and some inmates are not able to get the proper medical treatment that they need. My husband was sentenced to 7 years for a drug charge and he hadn't been in any trouble with the law in 10 years other then a traffic offense. That punishment is way to harsh especially for his kids and myself. PLEASE PASS THIS LAW!! EVERYONE DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE! PLEASE PASS THIS LAW!REPORT COMMENTS

Please change the law to 65% instead of 85%. I think that 85% for non violent crime or drug charge is way to harsh. My Husband was sentenced to 20yrs in max security for a drug offense., I get it he did wrong yes, but he had children a wife and family that love and miss him dearly! Him doing 85% on his time will just be devastating to us as well as him! Please pass the law!REPORT COMMENTS

65% for non-violent crimes!! FBOP has left my son in a detention center in an overcrowded cell. He sleeps on the floor, he says there are 20+ people in a cell that holds about 12 , no room to stand. temperatures are kept inhumanely cold, even in winter months. He was sentenced on February 2nd and is still awaiting transfer to a prison!!! DEPLORABLE!!!REPORT COMMENTS

People make mistakes. Change the law for non-violent offenders. It is so unfair for children to lose their father and a wife to lose her husband. The family suffers and is never the same. A child's mind is a terrible thing to waste, but it's ok to take the father from them? While the father made a mistake and should pay for his crimes, there is no reason to dismantle the entire family unit. The father could and should be at home, working and supporting his family in all that matters the most, his children. I support serving 65% time instead of 85% for non-violent crimes.REPORT COMMENTS

the guilty lie and make a deal for themselves while their 'scapegoat' pays the price. the government makes deals with the guilty, and pay their witnesses with 'get out of jail free' cards. the power of the Federal government is criminal. I also have transcript of 2 FBI telling their witness to lie under oath. the whole system is so corrupt. this is in Tulsa, OK. instead to prosecuting the dirty FBI, they were transferred out of state. never trust that the government is 'looking for the truth', they have their own agendas. to ruin so many lives, they do not care. the incarcerated that are first time offenders, nonviolent need to out. also the elderly. the problem is ... no one cares. if you look, you will see some posts are dated 2013. very sad.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe this law should be changed for non-violent offenders & also, have in place a system where resources are available for these offenders to make changes in their lives for the better. Big business for the prisons in this country is morally wrong as well as entrapment by the police to put people in prison is just as corrupt! Thoroughly discussed by this present justice system!REPORT COMMENTS

I agree on this law MY Fiancee is a first time non-violent offender and because they gave him an aggravated sentence he is going to miss the birth of his first child. many of these people are not harmful at all. I believe they deserve to be out sooner to there loved ones.REPORT COMMENTS
