My fiancé currently has a 5 year sentence for non violent charges that started with drugs, turned to a loss of a job and then made bad decisions while on drugs in order to provide for his family. Me and his young daughter. He has been threatened with a stabbing more times than I can remember. He is there to serve his time and get home but the other inmates want to use him as a pawn essentially. He is not in any gangs and does not associate with others. And yet he still gets threatened. Inmates actually went after him once because they thought he was someone else, they had the shank on his neck, blood drawn and someone at the last minute told them they had the wrong guy. He could have been killed. The sooner he can get out of there, the better for him and his family.REPORT COMMENTS

My boyfriend is currently serving 5 years mandatory time as a non violent drug offender, He was in a bad situation and had to provide for our kids. You do all you can to feed and protect your children. For him to be serving this much time away from his family with rapist, murders, child molesters is not right by any mean. He was a good man, worked everyday did what he had to do to provide for his family. He made a mistake and is now serving more time than some whom have taken others lives. Please consider less jail time for good men in bad situations who can come out and make society better. He is not a violent man, he is a good father and I wish there was some way for him to come home to us.REPORT COMMENTS

I believe they should reduce the time to 65% It's sad were the only Country that has the highest percentages of people locked behind bars. They need to stop putting money in these terrible prisons and put them into programs to help those who are heading down the wrong pathREPORT COMMENTS

The time people in Va. are spending in prison is too lengthy for non violent crimes. I live in Tn. and this is an article on the percentage served here. (Tennessee: Release eligibility for each defendant sentenced as an especially mitigated offender shall occur after service of either twenty percent (20%) or thirty percent (30%) of the actual sentence imposed, less sentence credits earned and retained by the defendant. The percentage of service shall be d on the judgment order. If the order is silent, release eligibility shall occur after service of twenty percent (20%) of the actual sentence imposed.)So my question to you is why are non violent offenders spending so many years in Virginia prisons. Please repeal this. Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS

I know share my story with others in hopes of helping them. I am a productive member of society today. In July I go to plead guilty and will be taken away from my 2 children and family. I hope and pray that the 65% passes. I'm a non violent offender also and just want all this behind do that I nay move on with my life and be the great mother that I am today.REPORT COMMENTS

Hello! I am the fiance to a man who has just been sentenced to seven years doing 85% time. The charges that he is facing are absolutely ludicrous. He is not a violent offender or a repeat offender it's just because of the Arizona mandated times and having to do 85%. If there is any way I can help others, fight, or petition the time sentencing here in Arizona I am willing to work hard and do it. I believe certain people are meant to be in jail While others should not be in jail and wasting taxpayers dollars over something that doesn't even deserve time.REPORT COMMENTS
