I have been retired from Federal Employment since 1997. My husband passed in 1999. Not eligible to draw my husbands SS because I worked CSRS. He only received SS for about 2 years before his death but paid in for more than 40 years. This is certainly discrimination. Please repeal the WEP/GPOAug 29th, 2015Someone from Baxley, GA writes:

So unfair to public servants. Never was even told of this until I went to get my benefits. Stunned to say the least. Why wasn't I told of this either by my employer or in my social security statement? State, local, and federal governments should be made to stop this practice. I get penalized and they get away with not paying in and no penalty.REPORT COMMENTS

If I had stayed in the public sector, I would have a much higher SS benefit. I switched to the private sector late in my career. The smaller pension I will get as a municipal employee makes up for the reduction in what would have been my SS benefit. Why do I have to have my benefit further reduced? It seems like double indemnity and not a way to encourage workers to go into government positions.REPORT COMMENTS

I am now a retired Federal employee and have been waiting for years for the repeal of the Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision. It seems the House or Senate is always submitting repeals but nothing is ever done. I've waited for years for this Repeal and think it's high time to make it happen.REPORT COMMENTS

I worked hard under paying into Social Security in my early years of working in private industry than went to work for the Federal government. It's not like my pension is Big amount, then when I turned 62 my Social Security was cut drastically because of WEP/GPO than after Medicare kicked in I Receive very little even tho I worked and earned it. When others work for a company and receive a pension there is no offset for them, so let's be fair and stop WEP/GPO and quite being partial to all who worked hard and gave many years to our Federal Government.REPORT COMMENTS

It is not fair that I am punished for being a loyal worker for county government in illinois for 15 years and thats not a full pension, but ss only allows me 288 dollars, from work prior to my county gov. job, my husband worked 45 years and paid into social security for him and me and i was told that i dont get any of that, even if he dies, i get nothing. i would lose my house because i cant afford the mortgage alone.REPORT COMMENTS

I have worked for the state of Louisiana with chronically mentally Ill. This was a very difficult job with less pay than in the public sector. My husband has worked 40 years and paid social security. I have worked to and paid into social security outside my government job and will have the needed social security quarters. If my husband dies I will not be able to collect his or my social security. please vote to stop this unfair practice.REPORT COMMENTS

I am retired drawing my teacher's retirement in GA. I am a widow. I started drawing survivor benefits on my husband and am penalized because I am in a private pension plan, Teachers Retirement System of GA. I only get 1/3 of survivor benefits because of these laws. My husband worked 40 Years and paid into SS. THIS IS NOT FAIR. If I had not been a teacher and drawing a pension, I would get the full amount. Also, when I get a 1.5 COL increase, SS takes that amount out of my 1/3, so I'm screwed any way I go!REPORT COMMENTS
