Leave Social Security alone! My benefits are EARNED. I paid into Social Security for 51 years. This is true for most of the current recipients. I've paid in much more than I have drawn. How is that a government handout?Oct 20th, 2015Someone from Rockford, IL signed.

WAKE UP RETIREES AND SPOUSES! MANY FOLKS ONLY FIND OUT ABOUT LOSING THEIR HARD-EARNED RETIREMENT MONEY AFTER THEIR PARTNER DIES...IT IS A BIG SHOCK AND HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT TO LEARN THAT YOU WILL HAVE YOUR RIGHTFUL BENEFITS unfairly / unjustly CUT...DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS UNJUST LAW NOW ! BEFORE YOU RUN OUT OF TIME...! PASS IT ON...!REPORT COMMENTS

The WEP/GPO is the un-fairest of any laws passed in modern times. It penalizes seniors and seniors only. I'd be better off on welfare. Why in the heck do the politicians wish to make people over 62 struggle more than they have too!REPORT COMMENTS

Repeal GPO/WEP which STEALS the earned benefits of hard-working teachers and their spouses! We were required to pay the payroll taxes while working OTHER jobs, this is outright theft of benefits we are due!!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

It is totally unfair that just because I receive a government pension from OPERS I cannot receive my widow's benefits from Social Security. My husband worked 40 PLUS years and drew benefits for approximately 3 years before he passed away.REPORT COMMENTS

I worked hard for all my Social Security. Now, that I am a PART-TIME teacher, I am being robbed of s good portion of my SS, because of the WEP/GPO. Because I chose later in life to become a teacher, I will now be living in poverty. My retirement from school is far from adequate, I would never have chosen to become a teacher, if I knew that I would be robbed of my full Social Security! Repeal the WEP/GPO!!!!REPORT COMMENTS

My name is Myrna. In 2006 I retired from the State of Ohio, Department of Job and Family Services, Child Support , as a retiree from a state job I am unable to draw on my deceased husband?s Social Security . As a result of this, I live in poverty in my elder years. WEP/GPO is cheating American people out of their money. When I was young I stayed at home to care for my family and children. My husband supported us. When I was in my forties I had to go to work and support my family. Therefore I was unable to build up a lot of retirement funds. I did not know when I started to work for the state, I was not allowed to draw my husband?s pension. And now I live very frugally so I have enough to buy my food. Luckily the medicines I require are not too expense. But, this winter I have to remain in one room and heat it with a portable heater, because I could not afford to run my furnace on high enough temperature to keep my house warm, I kept the thermostat down to 60 degrees and still my bill was around $350 two months in a row. This is almost ΒΌ of my check. If it hadn?t have been for HEAP I would not have been able to pay these bills. The government needs to repeal this unfair bill. It is causing a lot of hardship for the very people that kept the state operating. And it penalizes mostly women/widows. Repeal the GPO/WEP both.REPORT COMMENTS

If privately employed individuals are forced to submit payments toward Social Security, but then are denied the promised income after retirement, the government is complicent in theft AND fraud. A terrible injustice. UnAmerican. Wrong.REPORT COMMENTS

WEP unfairly punishes public servants who paid into Social Security during their working years, but receive a government pension for their public service time. No one should lose benefits they've paid into.REPORT COMMENTS

My choice of career should not in any way affect the spousal benefits I would receive from the Social Security which my husband worked all his life for! In addition, no one warned me that if I moved to another state such as California, I would not get all of the Social Security that I earned in Maryland! No one should have the right to deny me what I earned! I am doubly penalized in that I didn't have enough years here to qualify for any of the special longevity retirement benefits that others received so I do not receive the same pension as those who spent their entire career here.REPORT COMMENTS
