I am 62 years old and still working a public school nurse. I can only pray that I die before my husband because the GPO would eliminate any spousal benefit entirely and the WEP reduction to my SS benefit would mean I couldn't afford to live independently. If I die first, my husband can collect my public school retirement and his SS benefit is not affected. How can that be fair?

I earned my ss money as a teacher in a district in san antonio, texas. as a teacher,,,,,not before or after, it was a district that used ss as a means to get employees,,,yeah,,,it was a rough place, the wep should not apply to any teachers but especially not to those who paid into it on their teacher's pay,,,,if we stole money like the government is doing we would be arrested.....

Please repeal WEP/GPO. We are only asking for what is fair and rightfully ours. It should have never been approved in the first place. This keeps being brought up but never acted on. It is time to repeal it now.

It is unfair to reduce my social security benefits because I receive a CSRS retirement. I also worked in private industry and part time paying into social security and you have no right to steal my benefits that I paid into.

This is an unfair and corrupt law. If we pay into Social security we should be entitled to our benefits. Please fix this corrupt law that puts undue hardships on low earning hard working teachers!!!

I cannot understand being penalized for following my dream of becoming a teacher and serving children. I worked hard, paid my taxes, and contributed to social security. How can this be fair?

We need every incentive possible to hire and retain educators. Assuring those who have earned or are close to earning the 40 quarter that their benefits would not be diminished from becoming an educator (or other public employee) would be a huge positive.

The WEP/GPO must be eliminated. It should have never existed at all. I can not call it anything but stealing. If you work multiple jobs, both private and for Government and paid into both, you should receive what you're entitled to. I can not see how this can be legal. Why isn't this topic in the news "Every Day" instead of Presidential election Bull?

The Government Pension Offset (GPO) and the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) are totally unfair. We have worked other jobs and paid into the Social Security system for years and now we are being penalized. Because we worked for the Federal Gov't.. I also worked for a State Gov't for five (5) years and receive a pension of $102.00 before taxes and Insurance are with held. I receive $63.71 per month in actual pension.

We are only asking for the benefit amount we earned based on what we have paid in.

I will only receive half a pension since I have only worked for the state since turning 42. Why shouldn't I be entitled to the rest of my "pension" by collecting the social security I paid from age 16 to age 42? Comparitively, anyone who worked for the state their entire life will get a FULL pension. How is that fair? By not allowing me to collect social security, you are negating 26 years of honest hard labor! How is it a "windfall" for me to collect the pension I earn for 20 years, and the social security I PAID into for the other 26 years? Together, they will make a full pension, for which I have worked all my life, and I deserve to collect what I have EARNED!

How can you state one moment women have been under paid all these years. The next moment treat them as equals ? I believe that if you need to do a new calculation of benefits, do not take away from those who are below federal poverty level. Why take from them and make them apply for other benefits due to their low income. How does that balance anything????

Planning to work outside public education after retiring from teaching was part of my plan to finance/secure my retirement years. Having a significant portion of my social security taken away means that now I am not able to maintain my residence adequately or plan for other housing when I can no longer live alone. I find it very difficult not to feel that my government, which is supposed to be FOR the people, has stolen my security from me .Whatever can be done to right this wrong perpetrated by the Congress of the United States of America would not only be greatly appreciated, it would also help to restore the confidence of relative constituencies, which is seriously flagging in the wake of unconscionable actions such as this.

I know a woman that receives SS benefits for herself and her two children who has never worked a day in her life. She has disability for drug induced mental problems. I am a retired officer who paid in my required quarters and my earned benefit is reduced. Perhaps I should have been a drug addict with post traumatic stress issues.

Our daughter is working on her Doctor's Degree at Texas Tech Univ. She has now been informed that she will not be able to be hired by the Univ. except very reduced hours in the State of Texas. If WEP repeal is passed, will this change this problem. She has been told by TRS that she can only work out of state.

Not only is it and unjust hardship. it is also not applied fairly. The first more than 60 months of my Civil service calculated pension was paid to Social Security..Retired before 2004..Yet was denied exemption. Why are the last 60 months exempt....should be any 60 months. Why were we forced to pay into Social Security and then will never be able to get benefits? Why are immigrants exempt from Social Security taxes the first eight years of employment...yet Americans are penalized?? My 1800 dollar a month widow pension was cut to 139 dollars a month. I have just received notification of a miscalculation along with a bill for the overpayment of the 139 that was paid to me for one year. Why were we not informed about GPO before retiring???? OPM/Social Security systems are linked...alerts are sent to them monthly....How could a year go by without making an adjustment? Then send a bill to be paid within 30 days at tax and holiday time to already struggling retiree's?? On top of that, My Social Security office is more than 80 miles round trip....and I was forced to bring my original document of death certificate to the office THREE times.....as the office did not record it properly the first two times.
