The only thing I would change about this is to take into consideration the household income rather than just the parents income. In my situation my ex-wife remarried to a man who is making twice the amount that I do. I am very happy that my children are living in a higher quality of life however, being that the guidelines in the state of Hawaii requires me to pay almost half of my net income, I am now living below the poverty line. I would like to look for opportunity elsewhere but Hawaii is one of the most expensive places in the United States to live. Basically I'm trapped here as I can save little to no money to create any opportunity for myself while her life has improved dramatically. I work 40 hours plus per week and would like the opportunity to better my life and possibly meet a hopeful Mrs.. As I am required to pay more and more the chance that I will get to start over with someone new dwindles. I hardly consider this to be a fair scenario. What a scenario like this does is drive honest people to do dishonest things like finding under the table work or perhaps other illegal means of bringing in more money. Turning honest people into tax evaders or worse helps absolutely no one. Especially the children! I think the entire basis of how child-support is calculated is flawed. There should be a guideline that says how much a child cost to raise regardless of income then split between the two parents. What does level of income have to do with how much it cost to raise children? Nothing.

I am a new step mother of two beautiful children, though they have been in my life for several years. My husband finalized his divorce last year after 4 years of legal separation from his ex-wife. Before his divorce we would take the girls out school shopping, be active with school sports and functions, take them fun places, buy them toys, clothes and have family dinners at our favorite restraunts. Since finalizing things and child support payments have begun the state has been taking more than 60% of my husbands income and we can no longer do these things with the children. We don't qualify for any type of welfare assistance as they look at gross income over net income. We more often than not have to visit charities for food to eat and to keep our utilities on. We have had a vehicle repossessed because we could not make a simple $120 payment monthly. We no longer can afford to go shopping with them or take them fun places but still do more often than not forfeiting groceries for the next week. I am making a commitment to enlist in our armed forces so we can keep our home that has no mortgage, we can no longer pay taxes for. My husband works 2 jobs and will soon have a third as our monthly income is burgerking wage. Reform needs to happen, we want nothing more than to provide for the children and give them the best life possible but can barely afford to feed and clothe ourselves. We also no longer are aloud to be involved with schooling or sports which is important for the children to feel support from both parents. While dad is precieved as a "dead beat", we recently found out "mom" still has them on welfare, "forgets" to take them to doctor and dentist appts, throws away items we buy for them such as clothes and electronic, claims more child expenses than what is provided for them while her new boyfriend (who does not work) and she has bought 2 xbox 360s, tvs, go on vacation and purchase other luxury items. The system is broken and should be based on actual child expenses and have restrictions in place like food stamps and WIC, what can be purchased with the payment card. Such as clothing, paying utilities, food items other than junk food and alcohol. Payments should be based on and evaluated by net income and monthly necessary expenses rather than and 50/50 split of combined income. Visitation should be based on the parents want to be involved in their child's life as well as having regular evaluations for the parent receiving support payments. And this should be a federal government standard not left to individual states to decide.

Child support needs to be reformed asap! There should be a cap, period. There are already statistics that show how much it takes to raise a child. Just because a custodial parent is lazy and refuses to seek work, a hard-working person should not be punished by that just because the custodial parent was there more during the children's' childhood (because the non-custodial parent had to support the entire family solo!). The non-custodial parent ultimately made the sacrifice during the marriage to support the family, and now they're being punished excessively? Especially when the custodial parent lives with their parents rent-free, with no bills, has a college degree yet refuses to work in order to get more child support, and takes repeated trips to the Bahamas, etc. They don't pay a dime and live off people who actually work and pocket a fortune. It's ridiculous and extremely unfair to those who actually contribute to society. An example of this is our military personnel. They sacrifice so much. They're always on call, risk their lives, and give their all. Yet if they get divorced they are forced to give up half their earnings to someone who is capable yet refuses to work, and end up unable to even afford to take care of themselves on a daily basis and still be able to afford the travel to see their children. Fix it! The current system rewards the lazy and punishes the hard working. There needs to be checks and balances and people need to be held accountable. It's no different than people working the system and living off welfare and food stamps when they don't need to. There are jobs out there, whether people want to do them or not. They need to suck up their pride and take care of themselves and stop expecting people to do it for them!

I have 50% custody of my 4 year old daughter, pay for her health insurance, and still have to pay $350/month in child support (almost 15% of my net income). I have to fight my ex-wife to put my daughter in a respectable school. At what point are my ex and her new husband responsible for their own household expenses? Where is the equitability, and why should her inability to take any share of her responsibilities, and her willingness to fight me on everything (even common sense issues), not be factored into custody proceedings?

My ex-wife told a falsehood on a CA state for saying I make/made more than actual, she changed her Name, Address (moved) and Phone number. I've had 2 lawyers who failed to serve her with information I found on her LinkedIn account (on-line) and my old information I had. My oldest is 22years old and my youngest is now over 19 years old...when will it end? She gets 2/3rds of my income rather than 1/2 and my debt has been climbing for a few years now (including hospital).

I believe there should be proof provided as well, as to where the support is actually going! I just found out I'm paying my child's mothers boyfriends car payment. Please explain how this is right?!?! Also make it more simple to pay, in Mississippi there is no option to use a debit card, yet the mom receives it on a debit card?? Now ,the punishment for the dads who have a good track record yet hit a slump every once or twice every few years...give me a break!!! Don't take their license away, that's absurd. The entire system is biased. I know people who are fantastic dads that want to fight for custody yet are terrified to do so due to the unfair practices that most child support claims have involved in them. Leave the punishment the same for the repeat offenders or the "dead beats" but take out the biased opinion that all dads are like that whom are required to pay child support because that is garbage!!! I talked to a lady from dhs and I had a job that was seasonal and explained such to her, I always made money on the side to cover during my down time but I asked, was there something to work out during the slump?! Her reply... "I suggest you save some money"..seriously? Good dads are treated like crap by this sexist and biased system. I love my daughter more than anything, I should be able to provide for her directly, not have to have some corrupt system be the middle man!

I want to know how it is fair that I have my daughter half the time, I feed her, I buy her toys, and I take her to places she enjoys. But yet I still pay as if I dont have her at all? This is nothing more than greed.

The law is bias and unfair to the good fathers while the mothers get away with a lot the one thats willing to pay are trying they best but how can we pay if our license are revoked due to a miss payment and some of our jobs require a valid license and once our license is suspended how can we work we loose our jobs and child support incline due to that and that is not fair

This system is unfair in every way. How is it okay to revoke a man's license after only one month of him not paying child support but if a mother doesn't allow a man to see his child, there is no agency, department or law that immediately enforces it. WE DESPERATELY NEED CHANGE..

Moved back to be near my children and because I have a good job the mom doesn't try to succeed because I pay all her expenses along with my child. My salary goes down but still no relieve. I pay for her entire lifestyle while she goes on vacation with my money and not pay for my kid as she should.

I also think jail time should be a very last resort. A dad can't pay if he is in jail and if he also supporting other children in his home and the only one working it makes it hard on another family to.

The child support system is another way to put males in jail. When mothers cannot pay child support, they get government assistance and go on with their lives while men lose drivers license, jobs, and end up going to jail. This makes no sense and their needs to be reform!!!

It is sad that a family court who is supposed to do what is in the best interest of the child almost like clock work hands the child to the mother and makes the father pay to not see his kids just crazy. It should be joint custody 100 percent of the time with NO child support. The only exception is if the father or mother does not want any part of the child. Then if one parent cannot support the kid/s on their own full time then they can ask the court to make the other parent pay child support. But stop making one parent out to be a bad person when they want nothing more than to spend time with their child. An just because one parent works hard and makes good money does not mean you have to penalize them and take there money to give to other parent that is lazy. Maybe the child should go to the parent that makes the money and can take care if the child
