I completely agree. Living off of child support means the person is a worthless member of society. Everyone else has to work in addition to taking care of their kids. Those collecting child support should be required to hold down a job in order to collect at a very bare minimum. While the courts try to call those paying child support dead beats if they are unable to pay, those collecting child support and living off of it are the true dead beat parents.

Until stricter laws are in place for deadbeats children will still suffer. It is VERY easy for the non-custodial parent to skip out on child support without repercussions. My ex-husband is in 6 digit arrears, still has a driver's license, never has spent a day in jail, etc. BTW - I have always been professionally employed and only asked for scale even though I was entitled to 5x more. Where is the fairness of this?

I beleave child support should be both sides of the parents because the mother has to take apart in the child's health because most mothers look for child support in income instead of working on a job there is alot of mistreatment in the system from mothers who want to collect child support without working.

Well, you are definitely blinded by your personal case. There is no benefit to the single mother who works 40+ hours a week to provide for her child and keep health insurance since the deadbeat dad decided he didn't want to be any part of our child's life. I Take care of her disabled child, pay all her extra medical costs and still work and go to school. My case involved a police officer who had an affair behind his wives back for almost seven years. This resulted in us having a child. He is a narcissistic pig who only thought about himself. I found out about the wife through my attorney because he didn't even have the balls to tell me in my face. Almost seven years with this man and I thought I knew who he was. Well not to go off topic but I did take him to court because this was not an unwanted pregnancy. We both loved each other and hoped to be married one day. The only problem was that he was married already and only he knew about it. So he deceived me for almost seven years and thought that it was okay to just walk out on me and our child. Well, I did what every woman in her right mind should do and that is take him to court to have a judge enforce a support order so that he would put in his share for the cost of our child. The only problem with that is that my entire salary goes to all of our living expenses and the child support goes to my daughters medical costs and any cost that arises for her. So he doesn't have any shared custody since he was the irresponsible jerk that almost committed suicide because he couldn't bare the fact that he didn't have the perfect little life with his District Attorney wife. Well, he of course lied on all of his court documents to make himself look as though he had no money. So you tell me that a police officer salary of 98,000 a year and a District Attorneys salary of 115,000 a year is not enough for him to be able to support his first born. I only make 50,000 a year, provide health coverage for our daughter and everything else that comes with her disabilities since she was born 24 wks premature and has every issue that premature babies have. So, yes he decided that although he couldn't support our child on his over inflated household income, he went and had four more children. Since our daughter was born I took him to court once when she was 1 year old because he was not paying any support and had abandoned her. Our original case took over 4 years to close, and you ask yourself why? Well, as crooked cop and his crooked District Attorney wife, you go figure. So, just when I had moved on with my life he took me back to court 3 more times and the judge denied his request. Oh, and guess what? we are now in court again because he can't afford to take care of our daughter, because he is now retired and has 4 more kids and a District Attorney wife who is also quitting her job and they can't afford to live in California because it's too expensive so they're moving out of state. This last case has taken almost a year, because his flaky attorney keeps pushing it to benefit them. Well, all I can say is that the court systems are not fair to single mothers or fathers who work countless hours so that their children have everything that they should have if both parents were together. Unfortunately the courts don't take into account all the time that a single parent takes to make the child's life run smoothly. But it's sad to say that even with all the efforts our abandoned children's emotions and feelings are not accounted for when it comes to dealing with these deadbeats in court. I don't feel any pity for any man or woman that is obligated to pay child support for a child that they brought into this world. Wether the child was wanted or not, it is both parents responsibility to take care of this child. It is not the single parents responsibility to spend all of his or her salary on this child. The paying parent only gets to pay 20% of their salary which I think is unfair when you add a second spouse to the equation. Also, new children should not be taken into account to reduce any child support. How in the world does a man abandon 1 child and claims that he can't afford to take care of her and then goes and has 4 more! That is the problem with the court system!!!! If the court system is looking for the best interest of the abandoned child then the support should not be reduced period. If a man stick it to a woman 4 more times and make 4 more kids then he is just plain irresponsible and should not be allowed to take the single parent to court because this does not benefit the first born. Common sense! My experience with my ex- has been horrible in court. He has never once showed up to court, he was never obligated to pay sanctions which I think is ridiculous. Why does the court system put these rules if they don't even enforce them. I had to miss work, take vacation time to be at every court hearing and he gets away with everything!!! If you ask me, Police officers and District Attorneys are corrupt and crooked and they should be in jail instead of being in those positions. Well, this is my two cents on this topic.

As I speak for myself I am a proud father to my child. My child mother is somehow getting away with cheating the system by living in one state and receiving money from another. How she does it I don't have a clue? But even with joint custody and 50/50 on our child living at her house, than living at my house, I'm still on child support for welfare? How is this even possible? Some father's are on child support due to jealousy of the new woman in the man's life. So many good father's live paycheck to paycheck not going out to party, but staying home to save money for their children needs. Something needs to change, good father's are not hard to see in court, you can just tell once they enter the court house.

I am so happy to see this im glad im not alone. My husbands ex does nothing for the kids. They are a pay check for her. He has a daughter and pays 675 dollars a month for her. (His ex has all together 5 kids but one was taken from her due to neglect) She blows it on drugs and whatever she wants. Not only is he paying her she is on government assistance as well . She refuses to work because everything is handed to her. She also has no bills because her and all of her kids live at her moms. We wanted custody of his daughter but she refuses because she says she wants the money at the end of the month. When school starts in august he not only pays her all that money in child support he also pays for all the school clothes school supplies because instead of using that money on her daughter she goes shopping, gets tatoos and buys drugs. Me and my husband both work and have a child together but its so hard to even live off what comes in because his ex gets almost all of it. Getting child support needs to stop if that parent refuses to work refuses to use the money on the kids and is never around for them. It should be 50/50. We even have his daughter all summer and every weekend. We are giving dead beat parents a reason to be dead beat parents. I get so upset about this. His daughter is now old enough to see whats going on and it hurts her. She wants to live with us but she cant because her mother uses her to get what she wants. We would go to court for custody but to broke because of child support. In our situation know one benefits from this except the lazy parent who doesn't want to be a parent and only looks at their children as dollar signs! Please fix this

Yes! I completely agree. I also think there should be accountability on the custodial parent's part on how the money is spent. It should be for SUPPORT of the child, and yes it should include utilities, food, and rent. I am beyond tired of paying child support and also expected to pay my share of food, entertainment, gas, and other expenses when my child is with me. I am her mother, and was forced into a custody agreement when I was going through PTSD from the abuse afflicted upon me while married. So, YES. Fathers AND Mothers should not have to be punished in the form of child support. States should NEVER have the option of sending a parent to jail because they can't make their payments. If they are doing what they can, then let them be. Go after the ones who NEVER pay. Please.

Hello, I am the wife of a man that is currently paying child support to a mother that refuses to enrich her children's lives. She will send them to HIS parents house for weeks at a time (while still receiving child support and not giving any money to his parents as a thanks), does not purchase the children clothes and relies on us and his parents to do so, will not put kids (ages 8 and 11) in any extra curricular and has told us that if we want them to be in something we need to do it on our time and our paycheck. I have never seen such a warped and one-sided system in my life. Something needs to change. The ANNUAL numbers below are based on the averages I found on governments websites. This is NOT based on our current situation and only accounts for a single male, in his 30's with 2 children that he is paying child support for. BASED ON MEDIAN HOUSEHOLD INCOME IN TEXAS $53,207 TAXES - around 20% $10,641 MEDIAN GROSS RENT $10,584 AVERAGE CAR PAYMENT $5,916 AVERAGE CAR INSURANCE $1,620 AVERAGE CELL PHONE BILL $852 AVERAGE MONTHLY RESIDENTIAL ELECTRIC BILL $1,322 AVERAGE GROCERY FOR THRIFTY SINGLE MALE $2,251 AVERAGE ANNUAL DEDUCTIBLE $8,352 TEXAS ANNUAL CHILD SUPPORT-2 CHILDREN $9,132 AMOUNT LEFT OVER PER MONTH $211.00 EXTRA GROCERIES ON KID WEEKENDS $50 CABLE,INTERNET,NETFLIX, ETC. $150 1/2 OF ALL KIDS DOCTOR BILLS $50 GASOLINE $100 THIS LEAVES ROUGHLY -$139 (YES, THAT SAYS NEGATIVE) FOR ANY ENTERTAINMENT (WITH AND WITHOUT THE KIDS), UNKOWN VARIABLES (CAR REPAIRS, OWN SELF DOCTOR BILLS, LARGER DOCTOR BILLS FOR CHILDREN), CHILDCARE FOR MONTH DURING SUMMER/POSSIBLE WEEKENDS, CLOTHES FOR CHILDREN AND SELF, ETC. TO ADD TO THE SITUATION ABOVE- WE, ON A MORE PERSONAL LEVEL, HAVE A CHILD OF OUR OWN TO SUPORT, AND I AM TIRED TO STANDING BY AND WATCHING ANOTHER MOTHER TREAT HER CHILDREN AS JUST A PAYCHECK AND NOT ENRICHING THEIR LIVES AS THEY SO DESERVE. THIS NEEDS TO CHANGE. WOMEN NEED TO BE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND STAND UP FOR WHAT IS RIGHT!

Its totally insane to make someone pay a mortgage payment for thier children. With child support, its almost impossible to buy a home because of debt to income ratio. Its insane that you have to go on welfare to feed your family because of having to pay child support. Its even crazier that if it wasn't for taxes and child support my family wouldn't be on food stamps. All the bills would be paid and wouldn't need assistance to feed our children. Think about that long and hard.

The child support system is one of the most corrupt systems in America, and this is coming from a mother who could financially rape her son's father BECAUSE of how corrupt it is. I choose not to though. Unfortunately, that's not the case for MOST of the cases here and there needs to be serious change. The system should not favor the mother because of her gender, which is sadly the case in nearly every case you hear about. This is sexist and unjust, and it needs to be reformed.

Why should I work harder and more to pay more and spend less time with my kids. Why should I make a decision to keep the lights on or pay child support and go another week without eating properly. How am I suppose to spend time or money when I want to do something with my kids. My oldest is going to be 17 in a month and the youngest is 13.

This statement is so true it should be looked at at all views because court only looks at the parent that has custody with there child and not look at if the father has other children and bills truck notes and all and also like they said the mother should also be looked at and her income as well not based off one persons income and most of the time mothers put fathers up out of spite of jelousy and jus plain ol dirtiness stop the madness let the man move on consider the fact that they have other children and bills its so not fair for mothers to sit on there but in and out of jobs and receive childsupport regardless also they need to provide receipts for every $1 of that money because they spend on themselves most of the time instead of the child CHILD SUPPORT MONEY IS FOR THE CHILD NOT HAIR NAILS CLOTHES HEELS FOR THE CLUB ETC. there are alot of deadbeat mothers receiving childsupport when your leaving your child on any and every one even your poor sick grandparents of the kids just to go to the club so as well as men have faults women of the children have them to any way i can help please let me help tired of men struggling because women and courts want to be dirty and categorize fathers as all the same stop the madness and give good fathers a chance
