A long overdue, critically necessary amendment for those show need it most.

Once you go back to work, they expect you to be back to normal and be the same. We all know that is not possible. Allowing that extra time to care for yourself and your family would go a long way when beginning the grief process.

A parent never gets over the loss of a child no matter how old that child was at passing. I have friends that have lost toddlers all the way up to losing a child in their twenties. It doesn't matter the age. Your child is your child until you die or until heaven forbid they do. There is no greater loss or sorrow. Expecting a parent to go back to work and function as if their puppy died is inhuman. Recent events in Arizona should have taught our legislature a hugh lesson about mankind and humanity and how we need to treat eachother going forward. Think of little Christine Taylor Green(age 9), born on one day of tragedy in America (9/11) and killed on another. Congress should think of her every day. She should have taught this country a hugh lesson, a little innocent girl who wanted to grow up and become active in politics. Should her parents not be able to greive? Think about it Washington, America is watching, especially now!

As a parent of a child who was lost at 12yrs old, being able to even begin to learn how to function again is critical. Bereavement of 5 days is not sufficent when losing a child. It is cold and heartless.

That any parent can even go on after the death of a child is nothing less than a miracle. We must make it just a bit easier for families by putting this bill through.

My God, please help us. That anyone would think that after losing a child you could function after three or four days. When I lost my daughter I could barely move. I think a copy of the TCF "To the Newly Bereaved" should be added to this to give civilians a clue as to what this does to a person both mentally and physically. I also think it should be brought to the attention of Vice President Biden - as unfortunately, he has walked in our shoes. Jane Poitras Manchester~Rhiannon's mom

I lost my son, Adam and never would have been able to return to work in the usual 3-5 days employers expect as losing a child is truly the worst thing a person can experience please have compassion for those who will unfortunately experience this horrific event.

I am a grief therapist that hears of too many instances where the lack of support is not validated for grieving persons in the work arenas. It is unforgivable and detrimental emotionally to the employee that does not receive the needed bereavement time. I emphasize that each person is unique in their grieving process. I could go on and on of the stories, but I think I made my point.

12 weeks is the minimum amount of time that should be allowed for a person to move through the initial shock of losing a child. It is as profound a change as having a child in the first place, and especially in the event that there are other surviving children, the bereaved parent will need all the time they can get to care for their family as well as themselves.
