Those who loose a child are in much greater need of time than those who've just had a new child. Grieving parent should not be forced back to work due to lack of available leave. It only needs to happen to one powerful lawmaker and then this lack of compassion would be remedied.Jan 28th, 2011Someone from East Peoria, IL signed.

I lost my 18-yr-old son in an unexplained auto accident in July of 2006. I was and still am a single mom. I only took three weeks off after losing my son which was way too short a period of time and I had to go back to work as I am the only income provider in the family having to care for my two other young sons. I remember very little of what I was doing when I was not working. I only that I knew I had to get through one day at a time and keep my other two sons stabilized. I am self-employed but I still support this new amendment And I thank Mr. Farley for all his hard work and dedication.REPORT COMMENTS

My son died in 2007. We experienced many of the things that others experience after the trauma of dealing with the death of a child, forgetfulness, fatigue, inability to sleep, lack of concentration, inability to make a decision and many more. My husband, a physician, needed to go part time for 6 months in order to continue to provide quality medical care to others. How can anyone even imagine that in 3 days, a person should be back to normal. Normal was shattered and no longer exists. Learning to live with this new world takes a lifetime, but as a society we should be far more helpful and supportive in the early days of a parents shattered world. 12 weeks of unpaid leave is a beginning.REPORT COMMENTS

I am a Captain on a fire department in Colorado. My 20 year old daughter died in a car accident locally while I was on duty. I took 2 months off work and could not even imagine going back to work sooner than that. That time was spend dealing with not only my own personal grief but the grief of my wife, sin and younger daughter. I fully support this bill.REPORT COMMENTS
