There is a name for those that have lost their parents or spouses but there is no name for when you lose a child cause it is so horrific and is no word or words that can describe it , Please pass this legislationJan 28th, 2011Someone from Orchard Park, NY signed.

Death of a child is a major life changing event in which a parent's personality literally perishes and they must reinvent themselves in a long process of grief and great pain. We should help parents in that circumstance as much as we can.REPORT COMMENTS

In 1991 my husband and I lost our first child in the second trimester. This happened one day after I began a new job, and I took the rest of the week off to recover physically. With no accrued sick leave, I had to make up the lost time during the next 3 weeks in order not to lose that pay. This happened before FMLA passed and family leave would have been a great comfort to us at that time.REPORT COMMENTS

I was very lucky to have a boss that understood the time I needed after our daughter was killed by a drunk driver. But so many people think a parent can 'get over it' too quickly. Unless you have experienced having to bury your child, you cannot understand it. You never get over it & it takes years to overcome it. This needs to be in place immediately. I wish no one would ever need to experience this.REPORT COMMENTS

The death of a child should be included in the FMLA. Losing a child is the most devastating loss that one can experience. The physical, emotional and psychological toll of losing one's child is something that NO ONE can understand unless you have experienced it first hand. The last thing a grieving parent needs to worry about is losing their job if they take to many "days off" to grieve their dead child. A two or three day "funeral" leave does not begin to meet the needs of a grieving parent. As a grieving mother who lost her only son in August of 2009, I am respectfully requesting your support for this amendment to the FMLA. Sincerely, Diane Pippen Mom to Sara & ^^Nickolas^^REPORT COMMENTS

The death of a child is a trauma that leaves one in a PTSD sort of condition, there is no way I could have functioned at work, I could barely breath, it was a physical pain as much as an emotional pain. It was months before I could focus or concentrate for any legnth of time and over 4 years later I am still struggling.REPORT COMMENTS

Please consider this amendment. The loss of a child is far different than any other loss, it is the worst loss anyone can endure and the parents need at least a few weeks to fully grieve and learn to function again. Thank You.REPORT COMMENTS
