People need more than the standard 3 days of funeral leave to mourn the loss of a child. It is a life changing and exhausting experience. I was blessed when my son died to be given additional time off by a caring employer, others may not be so lucky. Thank you for your time in considering this matter.Jan 28th, 2011Someone from Salisbury, NC signed.

The death of a child is an impossible situation to rebound from, and represents a life changing experience to those closest. It is impossible to convey the depth of emotional pain. Allowing for some time, with benefits, facilitates for the family to not suffer economically, as they adjust the days following.REPORT COMMENTS

Absolutely, positively, the death of a child tops all reasons for an absence from work to be in the Family Medical Leave Act of 1993. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, more horrible than experiencing the untimely death of a child. My 22 yr. old son died in a horrific car accident 22 mths. ago. 12 weeks doesn't even scratch the surface of bereavement.REPORT COMMENTS

The death of a child is horrific at any age. I lost my only son at 29 years years. The grief journey you begin is a rollercoaster ride, and with time you learn to work your grief into your everyday life. I was fornuate that I was self employed, but I know this would help many other parents to have this time off under the FMLA. From ll bereaved parents please consider this amendment. Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS

I lost my youngest son 3 years ago, and my wife and I still get emotional whenever we think about it. The loss was the most difficult experience I have ever been through. It is impossible to understand the depth of pain unless you have been there. Thanks for listening.REPORT COMMENTS

The death of a spouse should also be included. Having recently lost my own spouse, I know it takes more than just a few days to come to grips with it. The same goes for the loss of a parent.REPORT COMMENTS

As a parent that lost a child... was only paid a week after and had to be back at work. Had it not been for a surgery a month after I do not know what I would have done. That 3 months off helped me tremendously!!!! It would have been greatly appreciated if it had been under FMLA.REPORT COMMENTS

My only child(son) was killed in an auto accident 10/10/10. Three days bereavement is a joke. This IS the worst thing that can happen to anyone. I fully support Kelly Farley. Please put yourself in my shoes and you will see that this is right.REPORT COMMENTS

My son Kyle passed away after an illness from November 2007-October 2 2008, he was a special needs child who wad 25 yrs old. He was my life. I was fired from my job with BLRG in January, by then Kyle already had 2 admissions. They made up all this crazy stuff to why I was let go. I only worked there 5 months... don't really know why they even hired me ? I did my job well. And my son went on to have 6 more admissions to Emory, I had to transfer him to Hospice where he passed the next day. I was never able to even able to collect unemoloyment.I could not. I had to see my son through to the end.REPORT COMMENTS

I lost a child and wound up retiring on disability. This definitely should be part of the FMLA.REPORT COMMENTS

Consideration of 12 weeks of UNPAID leave of absence (under the FMLA ACT) for a parent who lost a child would be most gracious and needed, considering it is the most tragic pain an adult will ever experience in their lifetime.REPORT COMMENTS
