The mental anguish of losing a child is beyond compare. A parent should be given the time to grieve without the threat of losing their job.

I lost my 15 year old son in 2005. His name was Clay, and he was tragically killed along with another boy on a "SUPERVISED" school trip to FL. At any rate, it turned into a parent's worst nightmare. My now ex spouse needed more that one week to grieve, Sixteen weeks later without any warning he walked out on me and my other two children who he has now abandoned over 5 yera later. He is a surgeon, which is what is really amzing about all of this. He is the man who has always had compassion everyday for his patients. Such an enigma.....and the "that is common when a couple loses a child, is a myth?" He needed time, we all needed time as a family to heal, Please consider this carefully. It could be you, it is too hard to imagine. But it happened to me, and my family suffers every day because of it....

My daughter was murdered in 2008 and I was told at one point that I might not be allowed to go to a court date. The death of a child is not like any death I have ever experienced. We don't get over it and 2-3 days is nowhere near enough time. Almost three years later and I still struggle.

As a parent who lost a child, I find it ridiculous that this has not already been addressed. The last thing a grieving parent should have to be concerned about is their job. Adding this amendment should be a no brainer.

This is the worst thing possible for a person to live through. Fortunately for me my employer was very understanding and left it up to me when I would return. Most people do not have that luxury and it is absurd that you would be expected to return to work after 2-3 days.
