As someone who lost two very dear people in a span of three weeks and having to watch my sister and brother-in-law go through the devasation of the death of their 14-year-old son Tyler, I whole heartedly support the FMLA! -

I too lost a child suddenly and unexpectedly and could not work right after. I could not even drive for 2 weeks. I was in complete shock and trauma. Based on my own personal experience I believe this piece of legislation is critical to the safety and health of surviving parents.REPORT COMMENTS

Our 14 year old son died by suicide (another issue in and of itself) 8 years ago. I was fortunate to be able to take the time I needed to grieve the death of my son, however my husband was not afforded the same consideration. It took us a full 5 YEARS to begin to feel like we could re-engage in life again. To require a grieving parent to return to work after 2-3 days is just unacceptable. As a grieving parent I could barely function. I know I should not have been driving because all I could do was cry. I was a danger to myself and others because I could not focus. PLEASE give serious consideration to this amendment to help parents who are suffering through the darkest, most painful experience of their lives. Thank you.REPORT COMMENTS

I totally agree. Losing a child is a parents worst nightmare. It should be recognized, and a parent should be able to take more than 3 days off.REPORT COMMENTS

The death of a child is the worst kind of pain. Three days to grieve the loss of a child is just no where near sufficiant. I add my support to this amendment and plan to circulate it furtherREPORT COMMENTS

If there was every an appropriated time to grant a leave to a parent, it would be for the death of a child. Very insensitive that families have to fignt for this, which really should be done simply out of human decency/kindnessREPORT COMMENTS

It is important that we recognize the loss of a child. Nothing can replace them. We should support grieving parents at this time of loss. My prayers are with you.REPORT COMMENTS
