As a perinatal and pediatric social worker, I am aware of how difficult it is for parents to lose a child. It is very difficult for them to return to work and their daily lives immediately after the death. I hope you will pass this amendment to the FMLA for dads who are grieving as much as mothers.

Dear Members of Congress, Having witnessed the physical and emotional catastrophic upheaval thrust upon a husband and wife at the sudden and accidental loss of their beloved 19 year old son, I wholly support this amendment to the FMLA of 1993. It is not within a prescribed number of days that one can manage to decipher the scope of the loss of a child, but years, if not a lifetime. For a grief-stricken parent to entertain the added threat of unemployment by an employer if one does not return to work within a prescribed bereavement time frame, due to such a loss, only serves to compound unquenchable grief. With the belief that when one finally does return to their workplace, within as much as 12 weeks after such a loss, that parent will have confronted many of the immediacies of their emotional and physical grief. By granting this amendment, and allowing for a more tempered grief, with the support of family, friends, employers, and co-workers, these parents would resume their rightful return to the American workforce in a more whole capacity. Please give thanks if you've never lost a child, and support those that have to live without theirs.

I a a bereaved parent. This is unthinkable. So many use and abuse this leave and those who really need is, bereaved parents, do not have access to it. Again, unthinkable.

I agree....the loss of a child is one of the hardest I've experience. We were fortunate...I was still covered by Maturnity Leave. And my husband's boss gave him the days off until after the funeral.
