I'm 26 years old and have done alot of stupid things that got me in trouble. I only have myself to blame for the way I screwed things up. I know it is up to me to turn my life around and be somebody my parents can be proud of. I have done my time, paid my fines and work hard at my job, own my own trailer and now I want to finish my education and look towards my future. I want to join the army to do that. Please help me and others like me to be an asset to our country and have hope for a good future.

Im a 33 year old male from CA. Im a convicted felon for battery with serious bodily injury(a fight i got into when i was in college) and a witness intimidation(I threatened someone over he phone), Anyways. In this country law enforcement takes the smallest thing and turns it into the crime of the century, forcing you to plea out, and basically hand your life and civil liberties over to the government. CRAZY! I would do anything to join and serve my country, but now id be lucky if they hired me at a fast food place. 4 years ago i went to the army recruiters, took the ASVAB, physical, etc. passed with hit scores. At the very end there recruiter couldnt get enough waivers to cover my 1 felony & 2 misdemeanors.Unfortunately they couldnt get me in. The feeling I had when I thought i was gonna get excepted into the army, scoring high on my ASVAB, passing the physical, was euphoric! I thought i was finely gonna be able to redeem myself, give back, and be a man. After that i was so disappointed. I even went down to my congressman's office to talk 2 him and see if he could get me in. That was a big joke. Now ive been looking into the French Foreign Legion. The summer of 2013 in gonna give it a shot. Whats wrong with this county! i would have been perfect for are military. This country's is turning into a totalitarianship, and its just gonna get worse. Never should a a child molester, rapist, murder, etc. be allowed into the military. Thats a no brainer. I want to serve my country with all my heart. America, needs to allow ex felons into its ranks. Its a way for us to redeem are self's, and be apart of this country. We are still citizen. And like me I paid my debt 100 times beyond what i deseved!!!! Its not far that when we finish serving are time we are disenfranchised 4 the rest of are lives. I, like many other felons want my life back. Its been a hard tough road for us. We come from bad backgrounds, fatherless homes, schools that dont teach anything, and fall into lifes traps. The military in the past used criminals, and minorities to fight most of there wars! What happen to the day when a judge would give you the opportunity 2 serve his county or go 2 jail? The Government wants to lock everyone up! This country has more prisons and inmates then any other country in the world. even more then china! whats going on here!? Most country's make it mandatory for all is citizens to serve at least 2 years in there military. Are country USA tries to put everyone in prison. Something gots 2 change. Every American citizen, ex specially ex-felons with non sexual, arson or murder convictions have every God given right to serve there country!! Dont take that from us!! And it makes me sick to my stomach that some pencil pushing, Harvard graduate, born to a wealthy aristocratic family, who's never had to grow up in real life America, make all these rules and laws that accommodate the rich and exclude everyone else! Congress! The People that want it, the people tha

How are we supposed to better our lives if we cant get a chance to ,so does that mean Im dammed for life? Some people that dont have felonies are some pretty crazy ones out there as well and they are commiting war crimes, and people who have paid their debt to society fines, jail etc.whats the point of it all if you cant start over? Now we know why crime is wrong and never want to go down that road.As opposed to someone that doesnt is more likely to commit a crime.

I'm am convicted felon. I was tried as adult at 15. I was young and dumb and made multiple mistakes. I served two, 2 year sentences concurrent. With 3 years probation with 5 years suspended. I served my debt to society. I believe I def payed for my crimes. I have no high school friends. I lost out on my prom. I missed alot my great grand father died while in prison. I feel my mistakes have more then paid for. Yet I'm still forced to pay for it. I want forgiveness and a 2nd chance to turn my life around. I see so many people with no record not willing to work half as hard as I am. I have been denied by all military branches. I can't join even coast guard. I even have looked to becoming I police officer. I want to give back and help people. I want to be more a hero somebody people lookup to. I feel I deserve just as much as a chance as the next person I feel I am no different as the next person. Their is not one person in this world that hasnt made mistakes or attempted stupid thing some get caught some don't. This label we give people is wrong. I believe especially in my situtation. I was still a kid i was 15. I was pulled outta school and put in a room were I just sat. My life is forever changed. Getting a job is very diffcult in can be done I believe that. But their no doubt in def makes things harder. I have not given up at all and still go strong. I work as landscaper and mow 15-18 lawns a day. I also take care of my dad who recently had brain infection that could have been life threating. It just I want people to understand that not all felon are these evil people. We are label faster then it takes to actually know somebody. Even u people that are not label have no clue. Make that one mistake see how fast things will spin on u and the tables turn. My point is that we are all human and mistakes will happen and we as hansade this system we are apart off no one else. We as humans give other hans the power to justify the life's of so many people. We all have bad days and good days how can a few people make a decision on ur life. Even the innocent are sentenced everyday. I love my family I love the American dream that once was when a house and a car was enough. I would fight proudly and give back to my country with my head held high and fight along side my brothers and sisters. If their are some spelling mistakes this was written on an iPhone.

Thats all he wanted to do growing up and because he has made a mistake he isnt allowed to join. Pitiful!

There was a time when an Amerircan was charged with an offense that brought a prison term, there was also an ultimatum, join the Army/USMC or a prison sentence. I feel it would better serve our nation to give the chance for those going down the wrong path to better themselves. Overcrowded prison and the taxes we spend to house them seems to be taking it's toll.

I tried to become a marine in 2010 and they would not take me because a police report for pot included information that I had been to rehab for an addiction to pain pills. Fast forward 2 1/2 years, I now have 3 different felony drug charges for oxycottin. I have been sober for one year as of June 17. I would love nothing more than to feel some sort of self worth. I need help, even with a year sober I feel worthless. Somebody do something, I deserve a second chance.

As the son of BMTI for the United States Air Force, I was raised military. My entire life, I only wanted to serve this country and serve in our armed forces. I had a two felonies when I was 17!! Because in Texas that makes me an adult, I was barred from joining even tough I was 16 when the offense happened. I am now 31 and my life long regret - serving the members our of country. I strongly believe that the training and dedication the armed services provides can change lives. Why can't we offer felon's a chance to prove themselves vs live with a mark that destroys everything they ever wanted. Everyone makes mistakes - its the ability to over come them that make a boy a man.

My son is only 18 years old. He was charged as an adult in October of 2010. His first offense was the result of a class H felony. he obtained that at 16 years old!!!! Two years later a college student and a life guard. Please release him from his past. Have any of you ever heard of peer pressure?..Well its an epidemic and teens are receiving felony before their 17th birthday. Something must change.
